Interesting! The rival BMW M135i XDrive hatchback or M235i Gran Coupe (not to be confused with the rear wheel drive coupe) comes exclusively with the same Aisin auto even in Europe -- which is a shame. Fair play to Toyota for sticking with offering the manual, even though it's bad for emissions ratings (both in Europe and USA). Edit -- actually BMW dropped the i, it's just M135 now on the facelift that looks like a KIA Forte.
@@TassieLorenzo The manual gr corolla is more efficient than the automatic. While generally modern automatics are more efficient, auto cars don't emit less emissions.
@@Tagiau Good point! The 8AT has two more overdrives than the 6MT, which should improve highway MPG in theory for lower CO2/km (I'm referring to CO2 emissions, not NOx or particulates).
This was the smart way to come out with a sporty car. Put out the manual first, let everyone get one and the hype build, and then come out with an automatic for those who don't want a stick. Toyota did it backwards with the Supra. I'd still go manual though, I'd take the engagement of shifting myself over some fraction of a second theoretical advantage on a track I'm not going to go to.
My first time seeing Zach on the track, fun video. As far as the car, even with a sportier version I'd have a hard time getting very excited about a Corolla. Well made car but I'm pretty sure I'd have a hard time seeing it as anything but a smallish affordable reliable family sedan.
Really? Even with the motorsports history of cars like the AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter, the E90 Corolla FX-GT/GTi hatchback too also with the 4AGE which also raced in Group A, not to mention the 1990's Corolla Levin Coupe, the 8000rpm 2ZZ-powered Corolla T-Sport or Sportivo, the V6 AWD Corolla Master Blade, and the Castrol Corolla World Rally Car!?
This makes me excited to drive it, thanks for the video. I'd only buy an AT GR Corolla if my knee imploded, but I feel like this transmission will just add sales numbers instead of take away from the MT. The manual was a big part of the car's personality for me so I don't think I could give that up in a car like this.
If there was a more affordable alternative, it’d be a good option for my wife and I. CVT WRX isn’t really worth it. There’s no sweet spot for AWD affordable hot hatch. Everything is 35,000+ new.
Think best bet right now is looking for used Golf R. My older brother got himself a 2017 and besides the DCT, the car has been rock solid since he got it.
Look at the Mazda 3 hatchback it’s offered in AWD and has a turbo engine option. Plus it comes with a traditional 6 speed automatic transmission not a cvt

Automatic > manual. I occasionally miss my manual car that I had from high school to beginning of college but not so much. I love automatic fat, far more. I don’t know. I think they’re more fun, personally.
But that's nothing much to do in an automatic? Whereas in a close-ratio manual you are constantly changing gears (indeed more times than necessary just for fun -- bored driving along a straight bit of road? why not downshift to 4th and then back to 5th!), which is what the fun is. While automatics have paddles, you don't have to use them and many won't as the transmission can usually choose better than the driver can.
Unknown cause for spontaneously combusting, can't drive over 85 MPH, trackers hidden by dealers or someone at Toyota. The best part of the GR Corolla is the performance. I'd love to get this car but it isn't worth it for the risk and headache behind the scenes at Toyota
Had a great time with ZP in Charlotte with the GRolla!
Zack at a press event brings a smile to my face.
A full GR Corolla review without an engine fire, BRAVO!
They never had a problem with engine fires. I think you’re confused with a kia
@@sonofagun5305 No, he's correct. Several GR Corollas have caught on fire.

2 cases were reported, which is unfortunate. But hey, at least unlike Kia/hyundai, and GM, there aren't so many burning cases.
i love manuals but i'd never own one as my only car, this auto gr is great!!!!
Gr Corolla is one of my dream cars. Saw one at a local dealership in red and it was beautiful
I'm glad you can still get the manual thats what I would get but for people who can't drive a manual I think the automatic is a great option.
I still find it ridiculous that so many young Americans can't drive a manual car,& have no desire to. Sad!
Ya it is very sad that young Americans don't have any desire to drive a manual I will definitely be teaching my kids how to drive stick
Is an automatic worth it is the most american question possible.

85 miles an hour.
2 GR Corollas catching fire out of around 10,000 sold be damned.

i guess toyota couldnt decide between center and dual exhaust so they put both so each cylinder has its own exhaust pipe. lol
can you drive over 80mph without voiding the warranty 😅😅😅
My exact sentiment watching this video
The lack of quality of the infotainment system is unforgivable in 2025.
Next sign of the apocalypse “Honda civic si automatic. “
Zack: Is it still good with the 8 speed?

Is it petrol is it gas is it hybrid what it is and how much is the range of the car

I only like my manual for track days. Other than that an automatic is better in every way

They should have done a gr Prius instead
🔥🔥🔥
Comparing a cvt to a traditional auto is like comparing 3 mile island to chernobyl. Both being very bad
Dammit now they're all gonna be automatic on the used market
All that and vinyl seats.
Are they? Isn't the middle bit a faux suede instead. To be fair, most BMWs, Mercedes and Teslas also come with vinyl seats.
Guys, what if Toyota wrote corolla with a K. Like korolla
But is it fast?
Not really, there's only so much you can do with a 1.6L three-cylinder.
depends on wym by fast
Yes. Yes it is. Not sure why anyone would say it isn't.
Sub-5 0-60 is pretty great in 95% of situations. lol
