So interesting to hear your views on freelance at the end. Funny enough, I actually talked about the exact same thing with an opposite perspective. It’s coming out in my next vlog.
If I didn’t have kids I’d probably go a lot more into freelance lol. Exciting opportunities and get to travel. We do some traveling but coordinating schedules with my and wife and kids can make that lifestyle harder. Excited to hear your perspective!
We do pretty similar to this - corporate live streaming/recording haven’t played with a retainer model though. Would be keen to hear how you approach that
Insightful video man! I shoot corporate conferences as well and I actually like them. How do you find the audio on the interviews while doing them in the same room as the other guests?
It’s not terrible if you have a pretty directional mic. Since the introduction of voice isolation in NLE’s you might not need as directional of a mic. For this job, we originally planned to shoot this in a separate room but there was some confusion about where they were serving lunch. Client ultimately picked this set up so we shot there. Appreciate the comment!
I did a corp shoot end last year, with people around making it fairly noisy , I spoke to the editor to warn him , and he said its no problem with noise canceling software now , and its getting better every day .He had some new ish one that uses AI even ! .. the result when I saw the edit was nothing short of amazing . Not that you shouldn't care , but now you can have the better background ,even if its a bit noisy , than having a crappy one in some bland room thats a lot quieter .
Great video Dave. To the point. Retainer model sounds like a great approach to keep the money stress levels down.
Thanks!

Hey man, even if you’re or running both photo and video would you have brought a second shooter?
Yes, there are very few circumstances that I won’t have a second person with me. The more help the better and so I’ll always price in a second person.

Is that your pink Stanley? Definitely a requirement for any long shoot. Good stuff. I like hearing about the business model, but the tech is cool too.
No that’s not my pink Stanley cup lol. I have Red Bull 🐂
