    Finally someone put it next to a normal Rollei. The lack of manual focus and the slow, loud autofocus is a dealbreaker to me, I think.

    Thank you for the quick look. Honestly, I’m not very impressed by the lens sharpness and overall image quality. The lens focus sound is also a bit painful.

      our sample photos in the video may not be the best representation to gauge its 'sharpness', the intention was to show the functions. most were shot in low lighting conditions and we, honestly, are not experienced video editors to know which format video outputs / resolutions would be best for still images in video. 🙏

    So its fully manual. Very cool. Only if you want to focus yourself you dont have the option. Love how it has all those settings and is still so organized. Really want one if the AF is very fast and first tests of the lens are out.

      fully manual other than manual focusing. The shutter and aperture are manual though. I wonder why the ridges are on the lens ? What good does it do if you cannot manually focus?

      @lelandfitz1762 yep, sadly, u can't manual focus. Though you could use the focus lock to kinda do the trick. Eg 1/3 photos.

    I am so proud of they can design in Hong Kong, the lens sharpness works perfectly fine for me. I already own some good quality lens and camera, now I just need something handy for daily use!

      yep. it's quite a feat to create a new film camera of this caliber in this era. ❤ our conversation with them, knowing about the challenges they went through really made us appreciate and admire the work much more.

    Loved the first look. I can't really justify buying an 800-dollar point and shoot - since I've been using a brand new old stock Dynax 505si as one. But I guess I'll have to. LOL
    P.s.: the thing hasn't even come out yet and how is film community? Complaining. Unfortunately, we can be really very toxic sometimes

      yep. we personally do have some feedbacks that we highlighted to Mint as well after the hands-on. Hopefully they can be improved in the final version.

      @@8storeytree I find it curious that many people in the community complained about the Pentax 17... But Pentax knows how to make excellent glass, and the thing is as sharp as it gets in half frame... Let's see!

      @@xtactic ​ indeed. we've read many comments 'complaining' how not sharp the lens is, and are genuinely curious how most people came to that conclusion. We've yet to see / find any proper image comparison between different cameras in same lighting conditions, films, exposure, scanner etc etc. and we're not even talking about using MTF charts. 😅 if there's anyone that can point us to this comparison that we may have missed. 🙏🙏

    Interested in AF speed / reliability specially because Photo with Flash (and without / 3:38) is out of focus and with LIDAR it should't have misjudged focus or was this a manual focus photo? thanx

      They seemed to have shot those two photos in Auto mode. Could the first photo be a bit blurry due to a longer exposure?

      @@costagf really can't remember. Pretty sure it was due to us, the photographers' accidental focus lock, handshakes and mainly, our unfamiliarity with the camera. Sincere apologies for not getting the best samples out from the camera. 🙏🙏

    Was thinking to pre order but the advance lever coming in front of the window doesn’t seem to make sense to me. Also the af is so noisy and seems slow too 😢

      yep. the advance lever is not like most of the 35mm film cameras. though, it's actually similiar to the previous Rollei 35.

    How to know where I am focusing on?The AF system seems do not show the length between the camera and objects.

    Rollei 35AF camera no longer supports a Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens! Whose lens is it?
    I have the original Rollei 35S …. exceptional camera! Always carried it on all my long distance walks in the late 70s and 80s!

    I'll stick to my $320 green label Contax G1. I don't mind carrying it around in my Nomatic 1 liter sling.

      @@ezekielkokspeaksthink it shdnt be compared with it's predecessors. It's really a different camera in terms of how the camera works.

      @@8storeytree I think it's a 35mm re-creation of the old 40/2.8 Zeiss Sonar, which Rollei produced in license. Sad, but true - the old one featured HFT coatings - later iterations, which is like 99% the same as T* multicoatings...as anti-reflective layer. Still, have & shoot my Rollei 35 SE zone focusing camera.

    how would you compare the lens quality interms of image sharpness and contrast compare to the original rollei 40mm lens,,, or to other premium P&S cameras, such as the Contax T3 ??

      Apologies, we did not conduct a side by side photoshoot in the same lighting conditions and other factors which may affect image sharpness (film used, scanning etc etc) to really have an accurate comparable information for this. 🙏

    Can you tell how the lens sharpness compares to something like a Contax T2/T3? When I read that this was an independent project and the Rollei name was only added/licensed later, I kinda had the feeling the image results would be closer to Lomo than Contax….

      yep. price wise we totally agree if the comparison is between a vintage pns camera. we do own many other cameras too. 😅 too many in fact.

    First of all its not that loud the mic is just inches from the servo motor. Second yes it’s expensive but no established company is going to waste money on a new film camera like this nowadays, rollei is no longer really rollei and as far as i can tell Mint just licensed the name. So you’re paying for what is essentially a start up company to take a big risk with tech they created from scratch so give it time, sure if canon or konica made this is would be faster and smaller but they won’t waste their time. That being said of course you could just go buy a hexar af for half the price and you should.

      It’s absolutely loud. When you are looking through the view finder and focusing, yeah, your ears are also gonna be just inches away from the servo motor

      @@mikes5311 we actually did increase the volume of the camera, winding etc so that it can still be heard over the music. ... U know 😅, like our intro where the camera mechanism could be heard. Adds a feel to the video, so we tot anyway....
      that being said, we didn't take notice of the 'loudness' when we were using the camera. But, we also didn't compare against another camera to accurately say it isn't louder. 🙏

      How can you say "cheap" lens without knowing *anything* about its lens design? typical YT poser comment, for my taste. And i shoot for 40 1/2 years now, FYI. The lens is a 5-element, with multicoatings, which seems to be a 100% copy of the Zeiss Sonar lens design, i shoot with Zeiss since 1989.

    That is one ugly inept knockoff. The metallic top is too big and disproportionate with respect to the black body. The dials are ugly and lamely symmetrical. And calling it a Rollei is ridiculous.

    Such a pity, Rollei changed a fully manual and joyful camera into a boring hello kitty point and shot camera and selling it for $790. Disappointed

      The original Rollei 35 was very difficult to focus under f8. I would happily take LIDAR accurate AF instead. Also this still this has all of the manual controls of the original (and more). The original is a mechanical jewel and sadly apart from Leica no one really has that type of manufacturing capability anymore.

      @@mvonwalter6927 Plus, 35, 35T and 35S did not cease to exist - thank goodness. They are still there, more affordable for anyone who wants a fully mechanical vintage experience. I, for one, will preorder mine, because I'm a little tired of having to go vintage

      @@mvonwalter6927 well said. We do think the original is a gem as well. And this is not a 'replacement'. We do feel that comparison between the old models somehwqt seems unfair simply for the fact of manufacturing capabilities available now and then. Truth is, we do appreciate this camera more after our conversation and understanding the many challenges they had. Really admire the persistence and grit to do something like that in this era.
      Something we think the community shd appreciate more. ❤️
