Sorry folks, I ended up selling the bike. I kind of got an offer I couldn't refuse. I paid around $1700 and I sold it for $1100. Not too bad. That's about 100 off for every year I owned it (6). It was just getting too dangerous to ride around town. Though the saga of this bike continues on. If you read all troubles I had in getting it registered on Chinariders and if that wasn't bad enough the bike was stolen from the guy I sold it to 2 weeks after he bought it. I told him to use the boot lock/alarm ANYTIME it was out of view and I even gave him chains and disc-locks. I told him this was a one of a kind in this town and it would probably be stolen at the first chance. Guess he didn't listen. I tried to help him out so I re-listed the original craigslist ad with the word "STOLEN" in the headline. Within a few days I got a call from another bike person who said he saw it in a garage with other bikes when someone tried to sell them to him and he remembered seeing my ad. I hooked that guy up with the buyer and the bike was recovered that night. They took out the ignition and put a toggle switch on it (very fixable) was about the only thing they ruined. Even though I sold it I'll keep the video up for others who may need it. Thanks for all the likes, views and comments.
Great video. Found one online locally in February during quarantine. I bought for a few hundred$ and a project to keep me busy. Sat outside for 6 years before owner decided to sell it. It would't run and discovered it had a bent valve. 7 dollar valve set and a simple lapping job and runs great. I think mine is the California version with all the emissions junk but It's great for around town and running errands. The Honda decal makes it look perfect and I get complements from everyone who see is or use to own a classic CT70. As of 6/19/20 it now has 1800 miles.
hehe it has a story and that matters , i ended up here since i bought the New Honda Monkey 125 cc still waiting one week after i sign the papers , maybe mine going to have a story to :D
I tried a Honda Dax, the new 125cc 2023 models, and wow man. This bike is small, but it's fast! I was going over 60 miles. I'm buying one as soon I have my licens.
I just got mine a few days ago and I am training, because it is not like driving my car. My husband put it together and nuts and bolts needed to be tighten on several places. I am really happy with the bike. It suits me fine as I am quite short. Your film was really good. When the parcel came to your home it lookt exactly the same when it came to me here in Sweden.
Okay folks, it’s almost been 4 years now and I can honestly say this bike is pretty solid. Although about 2 weeks ago I pulled it out from winter storage, filled the tank, and the gas was leaking from the fuel cock and from the carburetor bowl. It’ll need new seals and a new needle assembly. Took it to a nearby small engine repair shop that I had noticed months before. I saw they worked on scooters, quads and dirt bikes (at least 20+ outside the shop area, so they have lots of clients) so I thought I give them a try first. First off, they loved the bike …more on this later. Turns out, in the end, it will only cost around 50.00 to fix. Now, I will explain a few things about why I bought this bike that I didn’t get to say in the film. Here’s what led up to me buying it. I was looking for a 125 street style bike. Not a scooter and not a 250cc. See, I used to have a few bikes back in the day. I had a Suzuki GN125 and a Honda CM125. These bikes looked like street bikes, not like enduro’s. So the hunt began. I started with the majors Honda, Suzuki, etc… and none of them had or made those style of bikes anymore, although …they did have 125 enduros …errr not what I want. Ran across the Skyteam (Jiangsu Sacin) model, did A LOT of research on the company and found Trail Buddy as a North America distributor. The Jiangsu Sacin Motorcycle Co. also makes street style bikes too, so you may ask …why that model? I was looking around and I saw these and I had a flashback to my youth. If you didn’t have one you knew someone who had one. It was practically standard suburban issue along with Frampton Comes Alive. Unfortunately, I didn’t have one …but I always wanted one. The decals kind of reflect that feeling. Unfortunately, Honda doesn’t make them anymore either or I promise you I would have bought it from them ….but only if ….they up the cc’s to a 125 also. Once I found out these models were 125 and not the 70 or 90cc’s that Honda once made and even had a lot of upgrades even. I was sold. I feel you need at least 125cc’s to keep ahead of, or stay up with, today’s street traffic. So yeah I had a childhood relapse of sorts. The bike works great and it’s a great conversation piece. I’ve taken it to a few bike night rallies and people absolutely love it …lots of photographs. I get thumbs up from all types of bikers when I’m out riding it. It’s an all around fun bike …even when I’m not riding it. Right now the only North America places I know of that sell this style are: www.retrobikes.com/ct70/ct70.php (90cc & 110cc only) gokartsusa.com/Mini-Trail-Dirt-Bikes.aspx (3 different 125 CT style models) So back to the shop; they actually kept it on their showroom floor when it wasn't in the shop part of the building. Everybody who came in loved it.
Hi Bryan, First THANKS for posting this video!!! I'm sure you saved me from a few busted knuckles and some serious rounds of self-doubt. I have been looking at these for years and Wholesale Cycle just had them on sale for $1,099 and my resistance dropped. They were not selling them for a year or two and I think it had to do with emissions. Mine has a LOT of tubes & valves I have not seen on older bikes. I think the "bonus" brackets attached to the rear turn signals might be in case you don't install a luggage rack. Also, 50/50 chance and I hooked the left turn signal on the right side. Took off the black plastic rear mud guard and got everything sorted. I used one of the zip ties to bundle up those wires before I buttoned her up. What I can't find is a place to mount the rear round reflectors. Maybe I could use a bonus bracket - ha! Anyway, MANY thanks my friend!!! Walt
No problem Slowpilot, glad you enjoyed it! To tell you the truth I also hooked up the wrong wires to the wrong signals. They're not labeled so you just have to try.
Thanks for the info, I love the look of the Skyteam T-Rex. Here in Australia, not too many people selling them, so when they come up for sale, they are pretty much new price for a 2 or 3 year old bike. Have to pay premium for them on the east coast, because you can only buy them new from the opposite side of the country. I originally wanted the Suzuki RV90 or the RV125, but they are not too common and to buy one in good condition is new price for the skyteam or more. For a 70's bike, it's a bit risky, but so is the Skyteam really, being chinese, but good to come across your info and update.
Instead of correcting you about the correct number of strokes situation, like so many others have clearly overstated, I will say what a great and wonderful video on this nicely made bike. I ordered my own a couple months ago and should be delivered any day now. This video was one of the many reasons i decided on this exact one. I just hope the registration will not be as hard as you had commented about; even though I am not planning on taking it on the street very often.
The Brackets are for the License Plate LOL a few more things to mention the engine and transmission are shipped dry you need to add motor oil and gear oil
hi, great bike . I couldn't film myself doing that tho. the brackets you had trouble with are for the turn signals when the rack is not fitted , but I think you know that by now . have a great time mate
Thanks for this video! really nice. I am into low displacement motorcycles and mini trail. This one is a really decent clone. Here in the philippines and the rest of asia, china bikes flood the market. I own 3 of them, really good quality and saves me a lot of money, and hours and hours of priceless fun! Although there are mini bikes of 100 to 125 cc displacement here, NONE have the same look as the Honda mini trail. I would love to own one. Your bike has the classic look, it is simply a beautiful bike!
yes ...I used simple soap and water, or windex. That way you can move the decal around on the surface before it sets. Once you have it where you want, blot off the excess water and let stand overnight
I had the same problem in beginning and there's nothing in the manual about this issue. There are 2 kick stands. One to lean the bike to the side, and one that's more of an upright bike stand. You can not have the side kick stand down when trying to start it. In fact if it is started, and running, and you put the side stand down it will kill the engine. Look closely, the side stand has wiring going to it. For starting and idling in place use the center stand. I don't know why they added this?
Priced checked at Trail Buddy , as of April 2016, 1575 plus shipping. Only color available at this time is black. I'd go for a pristine original instead.
Blue, orange met, and red now. Can't find other colors. I like the Monkey bike but it's tiny, this CT125 replica is the way to go. Honda saying it will bring back the CT Dax 2018, imagine it will price around $3000 ?
That's how my 50cc Chinese scooter came front tire off, with a HUGE bushing to fit between the brake and tire,it was so tight a pain in the, everything else was simple, they figure if you really want it you'll get it done, and its true, gives you something to do
You didn't have to mix the oil and gas in the old Honda trail 70,they where 4stroke engines, suzuki, made a bike similar to the trail 70 that was a 2cycle,But all Honda trail 70s was 4 stroke engines
To commentators - Edmundo, Trailbuddy is there is Zeeland as of June 2015 mytrailbuddystore.com/, 2) Bob Jones , the bike did not come with Honda Decals. Bryan stuck them on. 3) Bryan as others said, there was never mixing of gas and oil on the Honda Trail Bikes. All 4-Strokes. Honda CT70's were automatics.
I understand that. Here's what I was going on.... Like I've said here on the board I never had one of the Honda's knew lots of people ...other kids... that did. What I did have was a YZ80 and you had to mix the gas/oil on that. I figured that since Honda's was a 70cc, lower than the 80cc I had, it would have to be mixed also.
No, but you are turning it ALL the way right? Come to think of it I don't think I have ever even used the reserve. I always keep a full tank. Since winter is coming, I'll let you know these bikes run great then too. Just let them properly warm up before and serious riding and wear warm clothes ...lol If you got the CT clone, you're gonna get A LOT of people wanting to look & talk about the bike. I took mine out of my out the other day, within 5 minutes I had 3 people gawkin, talkin, & Q&A.
This video is very enjoyable to watch , I know what you mean about theft , such a nice bike and so easy to lift into a pickup truck . really keep in sight is the only way , just a ride to a park or somewhere then back home ,
I must add, that the engineers who designed these bikes are top honda associates btw. From what i heard and read is the guys are american honda engineers which made a real good profit from the sales. Why? Because they are built completely n china under american supervision roughly. Just what i read .. I try not to lie or over exaggerate
The old models were not 2-stroke I love this bikes, here in argentina many brands sold them now: mondial as 70cc, zanella as 90cc and motomel as 110cc i buy a zanella becouse somehow i trust them more... but all they are chinese motorcycles assembled in argentina. I made many upgrades right now, like better rear shocks... better horn (louder dual-tone) better lights and a 120mm led angel eye in the headlight that fits perfectly and looks gorgeous! im planing to put a 150cc lifan manual-clutch motor from ebay greetings
Looking at getting the same bike from Trail Buddy. I live in Canada and it would be about a 3 hour drive each way. Any problems with shipping? Love the bike and thanks for putting together the video.
well besides the obvious speed, I would say it's built better than the Honda's. Plus all the modern upgrades ...front disc brakes, electronic start, etc...
I've been wanting a couple of these what's your thoughts on these as far as the 70s Honda bikes? I'm looking around and didn't know about these clones....are there any more makers out there? thanks
These can be registered for all 50 states, although in California you would probably need to buy one at a dealer who registers it for you. Many states have their own rules to register. I live in AZ, and these would be very easy. The guy in this video posted his experience of buying this bike on chinariders dot net and the company had messed up the paperwork, and New Mexico gave him many hurdles, although he eventually got it registered. Licensing is probably mandatory--I know in AZ or Cal., these being 125cc bikes, you would have to have a full motorcycle endorsement (or at least a temporary motorcycle permit).
i saw a matte black dax new on a secondhand site (in my own country) and it was 850euros. do you think it's trustable. (the owner sells more, he has a shop with more scooters like that). pls help :)
Never claimed I did know about them. In fact I never even owned one. I knew lots of people ...other kids... that did. What I did have was a YZ80 and you had to mix the gas/oil on that. I figured that since Honda's was a 70cc, lower than the 80cc I had, it would have to be mixed also. Btw ...This isn't a CT70 video.
you know, if you really want one, here in belgium there are litteraly hundreds of thousands drving around, I have one myself, and you can get them really cheap secondhand, so if you know where to get the parts you can repair and even tune it, they're unbelievably easy to work with.
Are you saying it's a CT70 "clone" meaning that it's really a 125cc? If so, more than likely you will need a license. Not sure what state your in, so you'll want to check with your local DMV. Where I live you don't need one for 50cc's and below. I never got one, but as long as the bike is registered, tagged, etc... and your not driving it stupid, you shouldn't ever get pulled over. If it's the same bike as mine, no mixing of the fuel, just regular gas. Don't use mid-grade or Super.
Good vid, but I just cannot trust the inconsistent quality of Chinese products in general. some of it is good enough, but a surprise is not what I'm looking for when it comes to transportation. I would go for the honda ST90 if someone wanted a bit more power and can afford that collectible bike made from 1972 to 1975. The ST90 is the CT70 with bit more motor.
If you buy one of these chinese 4 strokes, know that : - The chinese engines are all made in one big factory. The "little" companies (Skyteam, Zhenhua , (Jingcheng)) finishes these bikes. Zhenhua is the cheapest one but that doesn't change anything about the quality, IT IS the same engine. Skyteam is more expensive, that is because they put more aftermarket parts on and some little details. Here ( in Belgium and The Netherlands ) the replicas are very popular. I chose for a Zhenhua because then i had more money to spent on aftermarket parts. Parts from Japan are expensive but the quality is very good! Chinese parts are mostly... shit... Like the most chinese exhausts are... You better buy an expensive exhaust if you want a better sound on your little bike. After some time, the quality of the sound of an chinese exhaust becomes very "bad" and loud.(exhaust wool gone) For the rest chinese parts are ok. You have lots of parts that are fake and cheaper. You almost don't see the differences between some Japan parts and Chinese replicas. Some people ( and HONDA Fans) say this is all shit and the quality is very bad. But if you adjust your valves and put some oil in every 1000km, these bikes let you drive easy 30 000 km...
+edmundo torres Trailbuddy is still around but they don't sell the SkyTeam bike any longer. You'd probably have to go to the Skyteam.cn website to find another distributor.
Hello, Very well done Video. I went to the web site and registered. I could not find a 125cc bike. Did you special order it and what was the cost? I saw the 125cc motors but no complete bike. Maybe they will get back to me now that I registered. Thank you for the Video, Lawrence Hill P.S. Are you by chance in California? It might be difficult to register here.
i would stay in neighborhood or park, asking to get pulled over on the open road, why risk your life ? Should fit inside an SUV , many of these handle bars fold, just get a ramp and goto trail or big park with bike trails
this is a joke and im just bustin your chops, but i did the math... 1gal every 4 weeks car VS. 3-4gal every 4 weeks on the bike... i think you were doing better for the environment in the car... lmao
Try your math again. (3.5Miles each way I believe is what he stated in the video, 7Miles round trip) 1 GAL in a car avgy 21 MPG) would last him 3 days for strictly work commute. 7miles x 3 days =21 Miles. Ok, so 1 GAL in car = 3 days commute. Use the same kind of match to figure out the bike now.. 1 GAL in bike (80 MPG) would get him to and from work over 11 times..
That liquid...sulfuric acid...just sayin 'cause anybody who needed the explanation definitely needs to know its sulfuric acid. I would charge the battery 8 hours, then top off the battery to the proper level and charge it some more.
zimmelbot1 yeah I already knew that and it's been mention in previous comments. Might help if you read the previous comments before commenting on old mews. Also if you had read my comments you'd know why I put that in.
+Bob Jones The Chinese did not sell mine or any with the Honda stickers already on. I put them on myself because this is what I remember the bike looking like from my childhood.
I also have a clone and love it ! I turn mine into a drag racer I have all that is important to racing and have the fastest one around it's a 4/speed with a air shifter kit I made take a look , I have 12/video's on this bike with many modifications ruclips.net/video/x7PsNGn5C2A/видео.html
HONDA's have Always been far better than their Chinese clones! In 1972 I purchased mu first DAX (Original name of this bike) which was constructed for a 49cc or a 72 cc (Western-Europe and Japan). The frame is to weak for a 125cc engine. The Chinese overall problem is "weakness": metal, paint, chrome and all kinds of finish are all VERY poor quality. The HONDA's were strong, reliable and fast! The bike had drum brakes, that were very good for the bikes maximum speed of 60 km/hour.Only weak point in those days were the tires of Bridgestone, we replaced them with big Michelins. Now I drive a Chinese clone that has been upgraded with many Japanese elements. The Chinese gaerboxes are very bad...HONDA for ever.Frank
1972 Chinese ? Welcome to 21st Century Mr. Bond, Chinese steel quality has improved. Honda 2018 CT70 rolling out, prob cost $3000 US, rumors not avail for export to UK or West
Sorry folks, I ended up selling the bike.

Even though I sold it I'll keep the video up for others who may need it.
Thanks for all the likes, views and comments.
Bryan K Could you give me a link to the chinarider thread about the issues with the Skyteam 125 minibike registration please?

Lincoln and Aayan, this sounds like a scam, why would you want to hack your girlfriends Instagram, thats an invasion of privacy.
I tried a Honda Dax, the new 125cc 2023 models, and wow man. This bike is small, but it's fast! I was going over 60 miles. I'm buying one as soon I have my licens.
I wish they would send the new Dax to the US I’d buy one in a heartbeat

So back to the shop; they actually kept it on their showroom floor when it wasn't in the shop part of the building.
Everybody who came in loved it.
I'm actually about to buy me one soon from a company you haven't listed they're currently on backorder.

@@speedyme200 Honda have sent the new 125 real Dax models on the European marked. They probably come to US too.
Contrary to your intro, but the Honda CT70 was a four stroke. I spent a lot of time on them as a kid and have a 1970 model in my basement.
they were alweys 4 stroke...

Very nice! They are local from me, I rebuild to Honda ct70's with parts from them, great bikes! great guys! Nice video!
Really cool I never knew these bikes existed. I use to have a 75 model trail 70 back when I was a kid. Burnt my leg many times on that exhaust lol

This video was very informative. Thank you. How many miles do you have on the bike now and have you had any issues?
see my top post
To commentators - Edmundo, Trailbuddy is there is Zeeland as of June 2015
mytrailbuddystore.com/, 2) Bob Jones , the bike did not come with Honda Decals.
Agree. Trail Buddy is a great place to shop.
No, but you are turning it ALL the way right?
Come to think of it I don't think I have ever even used the reserve.
I always keep a full tank.
Since winter is coming, I'll let you know these bikes run great then too.
Just let them properly warm up before and serious riding and wear warm clothes ...lol
If you got the CT clone, you're gonna get A LOT of people wanting to look & talk about the bike. I took mine out of my out the other day, within 5 minutes I had 3 people gawkin, talkin, & Q&A.
This video is very enjoyable to watch , I know what you mean about theft , such a nice bike and so easy to lift into a pickup truck . really keep in sight is the only way , just a ride to a park or somewhere then back home ,
GREAT vid! I too, bought a CT70 clone. A Chinese made LIFAN 110GY-3.
what issues with your clone CT110 ??
Where did you get the decals? Are they stick on, or do you have to put a layer of 'clear coat' over them (hassle)?
I must add, that the engineers who designed these bikes are top honda associates btw. From what i heard and read is the guys are american honda engineers which made a real good profit from the sales. Why? Because they are built completely n china under american supervision roughly. Just what i read .. I try not to lie or over exaggerate
How do you wire the rear blinkers
The old models were not 2-stroke
I love this bikes, here in argentina many brands sold them now: mondial as 70cc, zanella as 90cc and motomel as 110cc
i buy a zanella becouse somehow i trust them more... but all they are chinese motorcycles assembled in argentina.
I made many upgrades right now, like better rear shocks... better horn (louder dual-tone) better lights and a 120mm led angel eye in the headlight that fits perfectly and looks gorgeous!
im planing to put a 150cc lifan manual-clutch motor from ebay
greetings
The original did also have a 4 stroke engine not a 2 stroke.
Great little bike, and a really useful video thanks . I want one
Looking at getting the same bike from Trail Buddy. I live in Canada and it would be about a 3 hour drive each way. Any problems with shipping? Love the bike and thanks for putting together the video.
Hi, I have the exact bike, where can i get a carb for it? please help!!!! i live in North Carolina USA ty ty
How good is this clone compared to an original trail 70?
well besides the obvious speed, I would say it's built better than the Honda's. Plus all the modern upgrades ...front disc brakes, electronic start, etc...
Great vid and some sound advice, cheers from the UK.
Hey do you remember or know what size sprockets you were using?
How much is it what kind of sape is it in
the back light brackets i put the reflectors on..
Its a skyteam dax and i love it!
And good gloves!!!! especially for a minibike at those speeds and such a short wheel base and high center of gravity being you.
You realize that the original CT70 was a 4-stroke engine too? We never had to mix gas and oil
I've been wanting a couple of these what's your thoughts on these as far as the 70s Honda bikes? I'm looking around and didn't know about these clones....are there any more makers out there? thanks
Sloan Champion ice bear makes one, just got mine delivered!
I had one just like this when i was a kid wow
Im goin to own one when they become available used! Impossible to find a non-current
Hey man! Love the bike. I'm looking to maybe purchase one.. But what licensing and insurance would I need!!? I have a drivers license.
(the owner sells more, he has a shop with more scooters like that). pls help :)
THE site says there are no more!!!
The originals weren't 2-stokes, they were 4-strokes.
orange70383 I know, this guy doesn't know much about CT70's
Never claimed I did know about them.
In fact I never even owned one. I knew lots of people ...other kids... that did.
What I did have was a YZ80 and you had to mix the gas/oil on that.
I figured that since Honda's was a 70cc, lower than the 80cc I had, it would have to be mixed also.
Btw ...This isn't a CT70 video.
glad the decals came out nice!
I tried to look up how much a bike like yours would cost but it looks like the place you got it from doesn't sell them anymore.
you know, if you really want one, here in belgium there are litteraly hundreds of thousands drving around, I have one myself, and you can get them really cheap secondhand, so if you know where to get the parts you can repair and even tune it, they're unbelievably easy to work with.
we sell Kit bikes now
hi 2 questions is the front turn signal mounts metal and is the speedometer in kph mph or both thanks?
the mounts are metal and the speedometer has both KPH & MPH
If you buy one of these chinese 4 strokes, know that :
- The chinese engines are all made in one big factory.
But if you adjust your valves and put some oil in every 1000km, these bikes let you drive easy 30 000 km...
seem like the bike is a tad variable noise constant velocity. lol good vid mate
hi bryan , i will like to buy one but bddytrail doesnt exist anymore...do you know another distributor..i´ll apreciate your help .
edmundo torres What? Trail buddy is still around.
+edmundo torres Trailbuddy is still around but they don't sell the SkyTeam bike any longer. You'd probably have to go to the Skyteam.cn website to find another distributor.
+edmundo torres gokartsusa.com/Honda-Mini-Trail-Z50-Clone-Bikes.aspx
These are built much better than honda!! Period. They r honda
Hello,
Very well done Video.
Comes in red blue and orange gold 125cc.
Honda never made the CT70 with a 2 stroke engine
Those bikes where always 4 STROKE using cub 50-72 cc engine.
Is this guy a hoarder; that shed looks packed ?
9/16th? Don't you mean a 13 mill?
Cuatro velocidad: uno abajo / tres up. Just diciendo .
BIG THANKS TO YOU!!!
are these road legal?
You would have to check your local laws ...unless you live in Penn.
i would stay in neighborhood or park, asking to get pulled over on the open road, why risk your life ? Should fit inside an SUV , many of these handle bars fold, just get a ramp and goto trail or big park with bike trails
there never was a 2 stroke ct-70
*always
cool video
Dealer here wants almost as much as a new Grom???
A free shelf!
Excelente video and gracias y nice cat , I buy bike fun fun.... no pay more gas
wo very good
The original was never 2 stroke
that cat at 14:40
this is a joke and im just bustin your chops, but i did the math... 1gal every 4 weeks car VS. 3-4gal every 4 weeks on the bike... i think you were doing better for the environment in the car... lmao
Try your math again.
(3.5Miles each way I believe is what he stated in the video, 7Miles round trip)
1 GAL in a car avgy 21 MPG) would last him 3 days for strictly work commute.
Honda 70 models were never 2 strokes.
zimmelbot1 yeah I already knew that and it's been mention in previous comments. Might help if you read the previous comments before commenting on old mews. Also if you had read my comments you'd know why I put that in.
None of these were ever 2 strokes
By your math, the car was much cheaper to drive.
Wow, there's something wrong about the Chinese selling bikes with Honda stickers...
+Bob Jones The Chinese did not sell mine or any with the Honda stickers already on. I put them on myself because this is what I remember the bike looking like from my childhood.
Ah yes, cool idea! If you can't get in a time machine and re-live the past then the next best thing is to create one in the here and now!
You have no shame, putting a Honda sticker on a Chinese minibike!
Werent 2 strokes ever
The Chinese gaerboxes are very bad...HONDA for ever.Frank
well as if, for example, in finland, honda daxes are super rare and expensive, so the chinese editions are decent
+Kaosma FIN sure, it is not all bad, the cilynder and overhead cam culass is ok, if taken care of, the frame also is rather ok.
Frank Deruyck true, i got a 1990 honda monkey, never had a problem
1972 Chinese ? Welcome to 21st Century Mr. Bond, Chinese steel quality has improved. Honda 2018 CT70 rolling out, prob cost $3000 US, rumors not avail for export to UK or West
