Great video - pacing is good, video work is clear, you show enough technique without unnecessary repetition, and your voice is calming. I especially love the "mod" flower button. Thanks for inspiring me!
I'm so glad you are able to use this tutorial to make custom buttons for your Mom's knits! So many possibilities. You'll be able to customize for any colorway your Mom uses. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Love polymer clay. I make embellishments every week for my mixed media with it. I have a playlist I've uploaded showing how. Love that I can come to your channel and get great new ideas. Canes give me the most trouble! lol Anyway, love love your art!
@@SweetWillowDsgn I just found your videos today and subscribed 🤗 Will you tell me the name of your drill and where I might purchase it??? I would really appreciate it!!!! You’re work is beautiful and you’re very easy to follow 😃 Thanks😉
Hi Brenda. Thanks so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I am using a handheld Dremel that was perfect! They don’t make it anymore unfortunately. Any small hand held drill, either electric or manual, will work. ~Maria
I enjoyed your tutorial, it was very helpful, especially as I am a knitter. The only thing that would help me more is what a #3 means. The issue is that all machines differ. A description of weather a 3 is a thick, medium thickness or thin would be more helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi. Thanks for watching. Yes, these can be washed! Depending on the finish you may put on you will want to see how it reacts with your washing. Here's a great article by The Blue Bottle Tree that will help. Thanks again for watching. thebluebottletree.com/wash-polymer-clay-buttons/
i want to make some sweaters i have made. the flower buttons at the end of this video are perfect! any chance you could list the sizes of the cutters you used? this is my first foray into the polymer clay world, so the the info. would be a great help. thank you for the inspiration!
Jeanette, thanks so much for watching. The flower buttons at the end used 3/16" Kemper cutter - here's an Amazon link: amzn.to/2dNs8Vt The one for the white base bead was the 3/4" Kemper cutter - here's an Amazon link: amzn.to/2dnJ98s Thanks for watcing, glad you enjoyed this project. Good luck with your first project!
This is a great tutorial - thank you. I have a question: Do you ever put a glaze on the buttons to make them shiny? How does that wear and how do you keep the holes from filling. Thanks!
Hi. So glad you enjoyed this tutorial. I don't generally use a varnish. Here's a great article by The Blue Bottle Tree where she tested polymer clay buttons with varnish. You'll see that with laundering it washed off. Surface treatments such as mica and paint can wash/wear off but polymer clay holds up really well. Hope the article is informative. Check our her other articles, this is a treasure trove of information. thebluebottletree.com/wash-polymer-clay-buttons/
Thank you Nathalie. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. The center marking tools is one I made myself. I did a video to show you how you can make one and give you a link to my blog and the template. Here's the url to the video: ruclips.net/video/CTfJIOETth4/видео.html Thanks for watching.
Valerie, I bake them in the corn starch. I'm basically using the corn starch as a "cushion" or support for the buttons with shanks since I can't bake them shank side down or on their face without distorting the texture. Corn starch works great and washes off. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!! 💚
Hi Gillian. The molds are made from a 2 part silicone mold making material. I use Amazing Mold Maker which is very easy to use and makes a great mold with lots of details. I hope you try it out. Thanks for watching.
Hi Sharee. Thanks for watching. The buttons are very durable if cured properly. The issue will be if you put any surface treatment and/or varnish on. Those will wear over time. Here's a great article by the Blue Bottle Tree that you'll find interesting. thebluebottletree.com/wash-polymer-clay-buttons/ Let me know if you make any buttons and how they hold up.
Absolutely you can use colored clay. The reason I'm using paint here is that I get two colors versus one with the clay. I sand or wipe away the excess paint to reveal the other color. Adds to highlighting the texture. You can try to achieve the same with clay for sure!
I use all kinds of cutters - some made specifically for clay by Sculpey or others, cookie cutters, canape cutters and I have some small leather cutters. Look around for tools you can use with your clay! The clay is non-toxic but tools should not be reused for food. Thanks for watching!
Sweet Willow Designs thanks. Could you please tell me where I can buy cutters similar to the ones you are using in this video? I have a bunch of small cutters but the clay Sticks inside their holes when I cut it so I have to use another tool to poke it out of the cutter from the other side. That leaves a mark on all the small pieces I cut. The cutters you are using in the video don't seem to have that issue.
Hi Krityum, here are two sets that I use all the time. A couple of notes to help regarding the sticking. Make sure your clay is well stuck on a glass mat or tile and use either plastic wrap or lightly dust your cutters with cornstarch. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. amzn.to/2rj8owW, amzn.to/2suh6N9
Hi Deborah. I use a Dremel Palm size drill which they no longer make. Bummer. Small, hand held cordless drills work great. Most hardware stores or online shops like Amazon carry them.
Great video - pacing is good, video work is clear, you show enough technique without unnecessary repetition, and your voice is calming. I especially love the "mod" flower button. Thanks for inspiring me!

Hola! Veo que tus botones están algo brillantes, ¿ Los has lijado? Al tener relieve, creo que no has puesto otro azulejo encima.
Found your video today. I couldn’t find a cute enough snowman carrot nose button anywhere on the web so I guess I’m making one now. 👍🤩
It’s so much fun to make your own buttons. Thanks for watching.

So how does the acrylic paint stay on? Do you seal it with something? Or will it rub off on clothing
Love it ! X

Hi thank you for this great video.
You use a tool to mark the center. It's at 2min 13. Could you please tell me where I can buy this tool ? Thank you.

These are so cool, love them. I saw you put the buttons in corn starch is that just till you bake them?

Sweet Willow Designs Thank you I didn't think of the shank buttons, that makes sense.
Beautiful buttons. How did you make the flexible moulds? What are they made from?
Hi Gillian. The molds are made from a 2 part silicone mold making material. I use Amazing Mold Maker which is very easy to use and makes a great mold with lots of details. I hope you try it out. Thanks for watching.
Correct name is Amazing Mold Putty.
These buttons are gorgeous. I was wondering, how many times can you wash these buttons. Being clay - do they disintegrate after time?
Hi Sharee. Thanks for watching. The buttons are very durable if cured properly. The issue will be if you put any surface treatment and/or varnish on. Those will wear over time. Thank you so much for getting back to me Maria. I loved the article and it will help me a lot, thanks again beautiful girl :) x
Where do you get your supplies?
hi. I was wondering if I could just just coloured clay instead of painting them? xx
Absolutely you can use colored clay. The reason I'm using paint here is that I get two colors versus one with the clay. I sand or wipe away the excess paint to reveal the other color. Adds to highlighting the texture. You can try to achieve the same with clay for sure!
what clay did you use to make the molds?
Hi Karen. I used this mold maker - amzn.to/2YNZN9u
They are beautiful! and such happy colors too :D Thank you so much for sharing another great video :D Love & Hugsss xxx
Glad you enjoyed Karin. Thanks for watching, I appreciate you. Hugsss back.
what clay were you using?
Sculpey Premo!
What kind of cutters are you using to cut the clay?
I use all kinds of cutters - some made specifically for clay by Sculpey or others, cookie cutters, canape cutters and I have some small leather cutters. Look around for tools you can use with your clay! The clay is non-toxic but tools should not be reused for food. Thanks for watching!
