Alyssa...I saw Junkie first and I thought it was beautiful even with the inaccuracies. I also noticed a few things commented on by someone else that perhaps there were small, tiny things that could have been more accurate but it has a lovely sentiment and very needed for the time we live in. I decided to watch a bit more of your stuff and I love this psa...i just sent it along to my nephew who will be a senior this year. I hope this finds you still practicing your craft! Also, I live very closely to another societal issue going on right now--an increase in schizophrenia and schizo-effective disorders. I myself have schizophrenia and anopioid addiction (been clean now many years but once you go through that door, you can never back completely out) and I cringe when I see inaccurate betrayals of people with this disorder. If you ever need to do a little research, contact me. Best of luck in your endeavors! I will keep right on binging your channel!

Catherine, thank you for your kind comment! I’m glad you were able to enjoy Junkie and it means a lot as a developing artist that you took the time to check out the rest of my channel. It’s always nice when a stranger appreciates and shares a piece you made years ago! I’m currently a year out of college - working in the film industry, writing a couple of my own spec features, and continuing to create short films. If you’re interested in witchcraft/Colonial New England, I’ll be releasing a short set in that world this fall! Happy to report it was MUCH more robust of a production than Junkie, and has already snagged some more prominent awards too. 😊 Thank you for sharing your experience with and concern for schizophrenic disorders as well. Truth be told I can only think of a couple films that portray it (A Beautiful Mind, Shutter Island)…what are your thoughts on these films? No one in my life that I know of struggles with schizophrenia, so I am fairly ignorant to what it’s truly like…I’d love to learn more!

@@AlyssaBotelho Wow! Thank you for responding to me! As far as previous movies with characters with SZ--never have I seen a piece that was at all accurate. Beautiful Mind was the closest I've ever seen to reality but definitely not representative of some one who is successfully living a "normal life". There are a lot of assumptions that people make that are not accurate. The one that bugs me the most is that we are somehow dangerously reckless and criminals. The latest trend is that gruesome murders and other strange crimes are somehow thought of to be schizophrenics. Truth be told...the same amount of criminal activity happens the same as it would to a 'normal' people. If they have SZ, it makes the evening news but not so much when a person with out SZ commits a crime. Statistics say that normal people commit crimes at the same percentage of time at the same rate as normals. And of course it makes for a better story if the person struggles with SZ. Another thing I have noticed is that there is a huge disparity of good info on SZ's. If you never have had a person in your life with SZ then you would believe the evening news (who sensationalize schizophrenics to make a good story). If people could be exposed to schizophrenics and come realize that they are more alike us than different it would go a long way to educating and de-stigmatizing SZ. Another little thing that bugs me is that normal people think SZ is just a bunch of hallucinations that tell you what to do. Most people think that we have visual hallucinations. Most SZ don't have the kind of hallucination where you see things that aren't there. Much more likely, they have auditory hallucinations. Some times I have a memory in my head that never really happened...I hallucinated it.
Delusions are a big part of SZ. I have a delusion the FBI is out to get my mom. She was a banker and privy to classified info. Some how, in my mind when I am not on medication, I twist things around when I am having problems or I am untreated. I don't think most people know that hallucinations can be a 'good' thing. Many SZ don't consider meds because they don't want to let go of the hallucinations because they are a source of 'good' feelings and comfort. I could go on and on..... Can I try to contact your via your UT information? I would love to hear more about your life and misconceptions that play a part in your every day life.

i think it would be awesome to make a psa about our (Americas) youth. We are in a mental health crisis. Parents don't know what to look for, kids get bullied and isolated when they are having a mental health crisis and there is just such little info available about mental illness. They are often afraid to let someone know they are having a crisis or even symptoms. Its really sad to see kids who could be helped if intervened early but don't because they don't have the info of where to get help and what to do.
