Broskander ;_; the entire him vs gil fight and especially the scenes before and after were just amazingly done in the anime. I still consider it one of the single best episodes of any anime ever
I dare disagree about that. That scene felt like Urobuchi trying to cram his views into the reader's throat more than anything else. He had an obvious bias toward Alexander the Great to the point his faults are entirely ignored, which is strange because Gilgamesh is still shown as having failings despite his less maniacal nature in Zero. It would have been fine if he showed all three kings as having both merits and flaws, but there was an obvious disposition towards one of them while treating Alexander as this totally flawless King when in essence he was no true King,he was a conqueror who only knew how to assimilate nations and proceed towards new lands while leaving his subjects to lead his conquered lands. There's a good reason why the Empire of Alexander the Great fell the moment he died, and it was because of how bad he was at properly administrating and delegating his empire. He failed to create a dinasty. The only great moments that show Alexander The Great's properly as a legendary King are the scenes with Waver where he shows precisely the charisma that explains how he was able to rope an entire nation to conquer entire civilizations without actual reasons. And his final fight with Gilgamesh where the two of them show each other mutual respect as Kings.
@@LeonGun8 I disagree with the inclination that alexander was presented without flaw, its the fact that his philosophy in the show is to live life to its fullest including all the positive and negative aspects which makes his flaw a perceived strength. All 3 kings in this show have the same kind of perceived and actual flaws in their leadership and how then went about it but the difference was sheer overwhelming conviction on the end of alexander which the other 2 didn't really have in theirs (astoria was shaky after and during the banquet and had actually lived through the end of her reign and thus was already really messed up by that and gil seemingly couldn't have cared less because instead of being boastful and wearing his ideals on his sleeve, he was more or less sheerly and totally un-convincible ). As such the negative aspects of alexanders rule didn't really come into play. He was a great conquerer and thats all that was required for the war. No setup for posterity was there or needed because of how the murder-death-kill functions. His mentality and ideals for the battles were the best of the three in this situation because all he had to do was fight and even in that you could see how he would make a fairly bad ruler in peacetime. For the historical leader alexander the great I wouldn't be able to make an in depth argument because of my extremely limited knowledge on the subject matter, but from what I can find easily, his goal was never to make a dynasty or have it be lasting.(which if the idea of not looking out for the future was thing you're knocking him on I wouldn't be able to refute that but I would say that was kind of exemplified in fate zero itself) He never set up a long term plan for successors and died before that and thus his poor long term planning lead confusion and infighting which, from what I can gather, is his fault.

Why is baby Iskandar so disgustingly adorbs. Between that and his adult self being a total bro, I doubt there's any question that Iskandar is one of, if not THE coolest Servant.
It's funny how Iskandar ultimately is the reason both Taiga and Waver became teachers to the same students. Also, that whole encounter is why I ship the two. That and the lols.
So in order to raise his divinity he had to sacrifice his beauty? HA, well looks like he managed to cheat the system then because his adult self ended up way hotter 💕 @OtakuDaikun: thanks for finally doing a vid on best husbando (well one of them) in Fates series.
I want to hug him. I awlays picture him as the travelling member of a family, who always have funny stories and tales to tell. (And I got goosebumps during the whole video. Your voice is wonderful, mate)
This dude here earned my respect. Not because he's a king or because he had power. It was how honest and humble he seemed in Fate: Zero. His humanity and personality is just amazing one of the best characters ever.
Iskandar truly is a great companion and oh yeah. It seems that after Waver hypnotized Taiga Iskandar wanted to steal more wine barrels from the market for Taiga but Waver stopped him
I hope that either Brynhildr or Boudica is next for one of only two servants of norse mythology needs some love or since Iskandar is a bro to us all we need the lore on the sister to all of us.
@@otakudaikun that's easy. All we have to do is combine the original, English, and German dub. Waver and Iskandar's dialogue, along with Kayneth, Lancer, and his fiance will be in English. Saber and Iri will either be German or English (considering that her Servant is the king of Briton, and the fact that she can talk to Waver, I can assume she can speak in English), and everyone else will speak in Japanese
Iskandar is not only a badass, but one of the few male bi icons in anime (even though it’s never stated in the series proper, the writer confirmed this version of Iskandar is bisexual as well). It’s just cool to know that, and makes me like his character even more, only one of many qualities that makes him my favorite servant in Fate/Zero. Great video, and loved all the research put into it!

Funnily enough, this is one of the few times I had no issues with any of the changes they made to a historical figure in Fate. Especially since Iskander is such an awesome character, even if he's a bit hypocritical.
Steven Choza Not to me. They completely ignored the fact, that he literally forced his people to conquer india, which led the deaths of many, making him very pretentious in his speech, when he said that saber didn't lead them properly, when he is the one who would have failed the job by his own logic.
The Rising Theurge That is the big issue I do have with the character. Especially since the show ignores the fact that, like Saber, his realm fell apart for many of the same reasons.
Steven Choza But to be fair, he wasn't all that experienced with managing an Empire, so of course he wouldn't be super proficient, but despite this, he did have many progressive ideas and showed some potential of a good king which was destroyed by his own mortality, insanity and not being good at choosing succesors.
The Rising Theurge Which, as you said, means he shouldn't be the one condemning Saber for the failure of her ideals when he can be called out for the same thing.
+Steven Choza Not only that, but they also acted like as if he wasn´t really driven by ideals, when i could consider his behavior towards the Persians and Egyptians as very ideal driven and unlike Saber, he sacreficed some of his more evil members because of it like Cleithos, parmenion and the latters son, though Cleithos and the last guy deserved it, but yout get the point.
When I saw that Okeanos was a singularity in fgo, I was scared that I'd have to fight Iskandar cuz y'know. So I was very glad that I didn't have to fight Broskandar.
Gilgamesh was king because of his wealth and of his divine blood, something reflected in his Nobel phantasm Artoria was king because of the sword in the stone and her birthright, again shown in her Nobel phantasm Alexander was king because he earned the love of his people, leading them not as a martyr for his ideals or a tyrant who saw them as less, but as a man who lead by example. Both Artoria and Gilgamesh mention ruling though words, but Alexander was through action.
King of Heroes? King of Knights? They're both respectable in their own way, but to us men, there is only one true King.. And he is the King of Conquerors! Not only can he conquer the world with his might, but with his charisma he conquer all of our hearts! Honestly my favorite Fate hero, he really is a rolemodel, someone to look up to and be an example to be followed! Seeing how Waver turned from irritated and arrogant to a loyal subject and more importantly than anything, a friend of Iskandar, was a really wholesome story to witness! I picked up FGO last year, and my first ever SSR (5* servant) I got Iskandar, he might not be the best performing Servant, but that doesn't stop me from giving him all the love he deserves! Fed him holy grails and now he's lv 100! He is my king..
He has lost a lot of popularity with FGO and its million bishonen servants but Iskandar has been one of my favourites since his debut in fate/zero and still is to this day. Glory lies beyond the horizon!
I love Iskandar and wanted to special ascend him if I ever found him. However, I realized that there's a time limit on the special ascension and Iskandar only appears in a fleeting New Year banner, I think, so I can't win him before the time limit is reached.
(LONG COMMENT)While i am not opposed to the fact, that the Nasuverse adds to the Historical figures some superpowers, changes or leaves out some minor parts about the backstory as well as changing thier appereance, i find myself, as someone quite knowledgable about History, troubled with how they presented Iskander´s story in the series and gives me a bad impression on Type moon´s view on said historical figures, even though i like the Nasuverse. With no further do here are some extra infos on the lore of Iskander´s and the Mistakes Nasu made on it: - The name Iskander is the persian version of his true name: Aléxandros or commongly known as Alexander here in the west. I call him here Alexander because i find it better. - Alexander wasn´t really all that bulky nor had he a bead, he looked, in fact very elegant and well built(not Bulky) for his time, though very short( The last one is a nitpick, but i just wanted to say it.) - His Incredible Military prowess and abilities were noticed first, when he helped his father Phillip II in the battle of Chaeronea, not his battles in the balkans. - Not only did he razed Thebes, he also enslaved thousands of it´s inhabitans and sold them to slavery and this was just one of the many cities he would ruin or destroy, like the City of Tyre for putting too much up of a fight and Persepolis, albeit not destoyed, got very heavily damaged with the burning of the great Libary of said City as casualty and it wasn´t just any Libary, it was the biggest in it´s age. -And as we are speaking of his abilites, he, while being very hot-tempered, aggressive, very Emotional and Egotistical, he was a excellent stragetist and Military Commander, who used his brilliant Genius to defeat his Enemies and did not, like in Fate/Zero charged at full speed at his opponents like a steamroller. In fact, the very Alexander-thing he would have probably done is tohave first distracted king Arthur by using his soldiers as decoy to distract her and *THEN* attacked her in a suprise attack with her not being able to counter it. Him just charging at Saber like a insane bull just doesn´t do his reowned military skills any justice and more or less debunked his image as great General, as such behavior would have gotten him killed way earlier in his Champaign, because contrary to what you guys believe, his battles were not easy at all. - Darius III did not ride on an Elephant, but on a war chariot(which had at that time become obsolete for Military useage)with Horses tied on it like it is expected from a proper Persian King, something Darius had never been. You see, he was actually, despite what Nasu would have shown you, a very weak and incopetent leader, who couldn´t lead any of his soldiers properly and made many Military mistakes that someone with a greater Military mind would not have done, like attacking on unfavorable terrain like in the battle of issus, not putting any guards before himself to protect him and constantly running away from Alexander, when he faced during the battle of gaugamela. This lack of Military discipline is what led to the downfall of the Acheamenid empire in the first place. - The whole "Zeus Ammon" thing came actually very earlier than that. When he began to invade Egypt, a Kingdom that was never really found on the Persians, since they were abused by them. So seeing someone like Alexander coming to the, was a blessing for the skies to them at that time, thus they surrendered to him without offering any resistance. As Exchange for liberating them from Persia, they supplied his army with all the resource they needed for his conquest of the Remaining Persian satraps(the persian word for a autonomous state inside a empire). While staying in Egypt, he visited the legendary Oracle of Siwa, which pretty much confirmed his identity as child of Zeus-Amon( they should have given him a NP that creates Lightning bolts made of Solat Energy to reflect on this), a belief he would hold to, even in and in the nasuverse after death. -Another reason, why he was able to maintain his large empire during his life time wasn´t just his Charisma and his prowess, it had also to do with his progressive policy of letting the conquered people to pretty much allow to hold onto thier Cultures, dresses and Religions, which were all inspired by his Persian Idol: Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Acheamenid Empire. His goal was to unite all the conquered Kingdoms into a single one, where they would all life as equals in order to do so, he arranged Marriges to Persian princesses with his Generals to bound the two cultures together, much to the dismay to his Xenophobic Generals, which leads us to the next point. -His relationship with his army wasn´t all that Harmonic as the Fate seires made it out to be, while it´s true that the greater bulk of the Army and Hephaistion were very loyal to him, the interest of his generals and soldiers began to differ much from his, after Persia was conquered. Alexanders increasingly interest in Persian Culture and his insatiable desire of more conquest made many of his Macedonian and greek subjects fear and hate him, to the point, that they even tried to assassinate him. He killed all those involved in the coup to set up an example to the others. Not only this, but his growing Ego and Alchoholism has led to the death of his friend Cleithos, (who saved Alex´s life in a previous battle) during a feud with in a drinking party for giving him a task he found to be beneath him, while also saying. He that he would have never been "King of Asia" without his father Phillip's Legacy( note, that Cleithos actually deserved this for his pettiness and disgusting behaviour towards the persians, but it is to show you, that Alexander's relationships with his people was not like how they portrait it in F/Z, but then again, it's alcohol). The growing doubts and fluctuating Morale combined with Alexander forcing the tired warrios to further east despite them having enough, greatly increased the tensions between him and his Army. After the battle of Multan, instead of listening to his Generals, he tried to force them to conquer more Indian lands, which was the final straw. One General spoke to Alexander and told him that they had enough, which made him throw a Tantrum about it, but thankfully it ended with him giving up on his conquest. He retreated with his Army back to home to their families, save for those Alexander suspicted to be traitors, for they would burn in the desert, due to his Paranoia. - That however didn´t completely destroyed his desire for more conquest, as he made well-advanced plans to conquer Arabia,Carthage,Rome and everything beyond, even India.......again. That would, however never be as he did either because of a fever he got from his campaings or poisining from his people for already previously mentioned tensions that didn´t really faded away after his Conquest.(see the riot of Opis and the death of Hephaistion)We aren't sure, but we are sure he died in his new Capital: Babylon. With this i´m done, Nasu completely ignored crutial parts of Alexanders Story that would make his speech about Kingship and leadership very Hypocrital, just to have someone other than Gilgamesh being very Critical to Arthoria´s rule, despite him the whole "understanding his followers" being bullcrap for already mentioned reasons. He was more of a Military General and despot than an actual King and shouldn´t have any idea on how to rule a Kingdom(he left the ruling to others, when he would go to conquest). He is the one more deserving of getting taunted for his rule than Arthur, not the other way around. I know i will get A LOT OF HATE FOR THIS, but let me clarify that i don´t hate Fate´s portrail of Iskander at all, i find him pretty neat and badass, but personal finded his portrait in Fate zero a bit too overglorified and somewhat whitewashed on how they made him look like the role model for kingship, even if Arthoria is being better than him. here are some external links for more info on Alexander: www.ancient.eu/Alexander_the_Great/ www.biography.com/people/alexander-the-great-9180468 upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/Battle_of_Issus.jpg
Urobuchi really likes to make punching bags out of idealistic heroes. Which can lead to interesting writing at times, but from time to time it can be wrongly done, and often end up giving a false impression of the characters and who they really are. Which Zero ended up doing, at least towards Western audiences. (ex: Zero for some odd reason produced lots of anti-Saber fans among the Western fandom).
The Rising Theurge I actually really appreciate this. Pretty much all these heroes do horrible stuff that the Nasuverse just glosses over. The interesting part is that most of these historical facts are compiled from many different works that stretch the truth in their own ways.
The Rising Theurge Your absolutely right the Nasuverse does (edit: typos will be the end of me) this stuff alot and it is annoying often times but keep in mind that the writers are aware of this (in the VA of FSN to later Fates works Nasu made sure to always echo the message that the word "hero" is very lose and subjective when used. Plus there's also the whole corrupted grail thing which gave reason to why villainous characters are summonable as heroes too) so my advice to you is just to consider these character interpretations as...just characters who so happen to share some similarities to their individual namesakes. Keeps me less annoyed that way.
xxChainingHeartsxx Aden YANG OtakuDaiKun thank you for your kindness and understanding for my post. I do actually think them altering some parts of the heroes tales and giving them abilities based on what they did as well as bringing forth some really good and new perspectives of said heroes is great, but with Iskander's benevolence and kindness, while actually is somewhat true, considering his respect for his conquered subject like how he honoured the tomb of Cyrus II the great (who should be in a future instalment of Fate), but someone like iskander pretending his followers had no problems with him at all(His followers we're no bit better actually and in many occasions worse like Cleithos) is for me, very bad. Despite this fate's interpretation is good enough to please me to spme extend.
How can i say it, How can i tell you what it was like to be young? To dream big dreams. To believe when Alexander looked you in the eye you could do anything. In his presence, by the light of Apollo. We were better then we were. Truly i have known many great men in my life, but only one colossus. Only know in old age do i understand who this force of nature really was. Did such a man as Alexander exist? Of course not. We idolize him, make him better then he was. Men, all men. Reach and fall, reach and fall. He could have stayed home in Macedonia. Married, raised a family. He'd have died a celebrated man. But this was not Alexander, all his life he fought to free himself from fear, by this and this alone he was made free, the freest man i had ever known. His tragedy was one of increasing loneliness, and impatience with those who could not understand. And if his desire to reconcile Greek and barbarian ended in failure. What a failure!! His failure towered over other men's successes. I've lived a long life. The glory and memory of man will always belong to those who follow their great visions. The greatest of these is the one we now call... Μέγας Αλέξανδρος. The greatest of all..

that is weird but mordred died in ep 23 too.
It's funny how Iskandar ultimately is the reason both Taiga and Waver became teachers to the same students. Also, that whole encounter is why I ship the two. That and the lols.
Gautam Sarathy I'm sensing a doujin lol
OtakuDaiKun Oh I can't draw for shit, but if someone else has already made one, I would be thankful and pleasantly surprised.
I’ve been waiting for this video since I found out about this series! Great video! Keep up the good work man
Instant army: Just add Iskandar
You forgot how he is a big brother to everyone in fgo
So in order to raise his divinity he had to sacrifice his beauty? HA, well looks like he managed to cheat the system then because his adult self ended up way hotter 💕
@OtakuDaikun: thanks for finally doing a vid on best husbando (well one of them) in Fates series.
Kinda reminds me to Disney's Hercules when he mentioned that extreme physical change
I want to hug him. I awlays picture him as the travelling member of a family, who always have funny stories and tales to tell.
(And I got goosebumps during the whole video. Your voice is wonderful, mate)
paolo geymet Thank you^^
"I can make this world as real as real can ever be because still exist in our hearts"
I'm lucky enough to be named of him.
This is the one I've been waiting for!!!!
This dude here earned my respect. Not because he's a king or because he had power. It was how honest and humble he seemed in Fate: Zero. His humanity and personality is just amazing one of the best characters ever.
Lord Hakumen Yeah. There is definitely something respectable in his honesty.
Yeah Iskandar transformed from a generic bishi to a bara god. I see nothing wrong there.
That Taiga bit of the lore lol
But besides the funny part, the lore video itself is hard to explain in my own words.
The Greek freak Alex
“Near to the east
In a part of Ancient Greece”
Gilgamesh wishes Iron Maiden wrote a song about him.
In FGO he is one of the strongest rider, the real bro
The thing is, i always knew him as Alexander.... First time i heard the name Iskandar was in Fate Zero...
Iskandar truly is a great companion and oh yeah. It seems that after Waver hypnotized Taiga Iskandar wanted to steal more wine barrels from the market for Taiga but Waver stopped him
Jonathan Yeoh Rider doesn't understand you can't just take stuff.
I hope that either Brynhildr or Boudica is next for one of only two servants of norse mythology needs some love or since Iskandar is a bro to us all we need the lore on the sister to all of us.
Atelier God isnt boudica a celt though???
drsatanrx why do you think I put an “or” in there?
I've got Lancelot and Jeanne coming up next.
@@otakudaikun hey what about altera? attila the hun?
@@AtelierGod but or is used when the details are the same kind, no?
His every screen time in Fate Zero is fun, I didn't expect to like this Servant.
12:05 wait, what? waver can NOT speak japanese?
BananaRiff Apparently not in the original novel. An authentic dub of the anime would probably have to be bilingual.
Waver is from England
@@otakudaikun that's easy. All we have to do is combine the original, English, and German dub. Waver and Iskandar's dialogue, along with Kayneth, Lancer, and his fiance will be in English. Saber and Iri will either be German or English (considering that her Servant is the king of Briton, and the fact that she can talk to Waver, I can assume she can speak in English), and everyone else will speak in Japanese
@@bbpele2848 Didn't know it had a german dub.
@@otakudaikun me neither lol
These vids are the best when i'm writing or illustrating my manga
One of the men I actually consider a role model.
This video got me thinking. Has waver received more praise and blessings from heroic spirits than anyone else?
He is by far my favorite hero.
One fact thought, Alexander never conquered India.
He had to return, after an inconclusive battle with the Indian Hindu King, Porus.
Saksham Pandey I never said he conquered all of India.
Alexander defeated porus tho.
No one cares about your pooland

More than just a historical figure, he is the example every man should follow.
The Rising Theurge
That is the big issue I do have with the character.
The Rising Theurge
Which, as you said, means he shouldn't be the one condemning Saber for the failure of her ideals when he can be called out for the same thing.
A great man, a great conquerer, but a not-so-great ruler
i need an anime of just Iskandar and weaver... carnival phantasm that shit make it a buddy cop comedy.
Glad you included that part with Taiga.
I love the relationship between waver and rider
When I saw that Okeanos was a singularity in fgo, I was scared that I'd have to fight Iskandar cuz y'know. So I was very glad that I didn't have to fight Broskandar.
Always remember, his birthday is July 21st
man i love these vids
I Love your Lore videos. The Lore behind the servants are very interesting. And I really like your voice tbh
Nathan Kima Thank you^^

great video I did not know that Iskandar was the reason Taiga went into teaching
Iskandar is my Uncle’s last name.
Keep it up with the Lore videos I'm loving it. Big History and Fate fan. Most wonderful. Thank you.
The first and pioneer of the cavalry charge, the Conquering Hero the Rides forth, he had kingdom at the age 20 and an Empire by 30, my namesakes,
Iskandar, Mekkkah as a heroic spirit. He plays "Admirable Tactics" religiously.
Xuanathan That should be an actual game lol
So Hold on Iskandar is the reason Tiga became a teacher.
omkar shirgaonkar Yes.
Basically.
Gilgamesh was king because of his wealth and of his divine blood, something reflected in his Nobel phantasm
Artoria was king because of the sword in the stone and her birthright, again shown in her Nobel phantasm
Alexander was king because he earned the love of his people, leading them not as a martyr for his ideals or a tyrant who saw them as less, but as a man who lead by example. Both Artoria and Gilgamesh mention ruling though words, but Alexander was through action.
Actually Alexander was king through bloodline. He was the first son of King Phillip.
Yay iskandar!
Boi looks like Ganondorf
Iskandar was one of the best servants in Fate.
Iskandar armies VS darius Immortal armies! The movie!
Iskandar: The greatest wingman.
>Iskandar tried to play match up with Waver and Taiga
That is the weirdest and funniest bit about this whole thing. lol Iskandar is the best wing man.
Considering how the two turned out when they got older, Taiga and Waver really aren't a match, but it's funny how Iskandar tried.
He made the right move, way before the Disaster Grail Calamity.
Why couldn’t Miss Taiga remember any of this?
@@Lemuel928 Taiga's a bit of a scatter brain, so it's understandable that she'd forget about this sort of thing. lol
He has lost a lot of popularity with FGO and its million bishonen servants but Iskandar has been one of my favourites since his debut in fate/zero and still is to this day.
Glory lies beyond the horizon!
I dont get how one would lose popularity wirh him just being in a game with more servants in it
Iskandar is the best king, bro and a wingman?
I love Iskandar and wanted to special ascend him if I ever found him.
However, I realized that there's a time limit on the special ascension and Iskandar only appears in a fleeting New Year banner, I think, so I can't win him before the time limit is reached.
I really enjoyed this presentation.
John Wanamaker Thank you^^
(LONG COMMENT)While i am not opposed to the fact, that the Nasuverse adds to the Historical figures some superpowers, changes or leaves out some minor parts about the backstory as well as changing thier appereance, i find myself, as someone quite knowledgable about History, troubled with how they presented Iskander´s story in the series and gives me a bad impression on Type moon´s view on said historical figures, even though i like the Nasuverse. With no further do here are some extra infos on the lore of Iskander´s and the Mistakes Nasu made on it:
- The name Iskander is the persian version of his true name: Aléxandros or commongly known as Alexander here in the west. I call him here Alexander because i find it better.
- Alexander wasn´t really all that bulky nor had he a bead, he looked, in fact very elegant and well built(not Bulky) for his time, though very short( The last one is a nitpick, but i just wanted to say it.)
- His Incredible Military prowess and abilities were noticed first, when he helped his father Phillip II in the battle of Chaeronea, not his battles in the balkans.

The Rising Theurge His speech was meant to be hypocritical
