If you know anything about Jason deLucia, you will know he is extremely bright and articulate - definitely not your typical UFC meathead. He is highly analytical and likes to explore different ways of fighting. Like a lot of true traditional martial artists who have fought in MMA competitions he sees something of value in every style. He has trained in Aikido, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Kung Fu, along with Shootfighting. Aikido is an excellent supplement to all martial arts and does work providing you are already experienced in a true grappling style like judo and BJJ. That was the reason he made the video series - to apply aikido concepts to combat sports, certainly not as a replacement. If you bother to watch the whole series, you will note that nowhere does he ever claim that you can win a match purely with aikido.

Kung fu guy now he's into Aikido ? Seems to be well versed in this Japanese art. This should be interesting. I remember the first time I heard of him was at the Gracie Academy in Torrance. Early 90's he had come by the school and challenged the Gracie's and they showed us the video of him fighting Royce on the mats.

@@VultureLivesAgain well yeah, he knew some grappling because he fought Royce Gracie. So he was familiar with their way of fighting. But I had no idea he was training in Aikido. And traditional Aikido has nothing to do with the BJJ style of grappling on the ground.

I'll never forget his fight with Bas Rutten , when Bas broke his liver with some nasty liver punches, and he was trying to cheat saying boss was hitting him low. And saying boss was punching him in the face, because there were only allowed to palm strike to the face or slap to the face, and the organization pancreas. Bas made him pay in a big way, for trying to say he was being fouled.

After getting owned by Royce Gracie in the Octagon, why would Jason Delucia put out an Aikido video? Neither his Aikido nor his Kung Fu helped him in the Octagon.
