im currently applying to the fire brigade, as a daughter of a fireman im so nervous and also havent told my dad im applying. as a female im so so worried of being turned down

I have a question. For s4 high school pupils would you accept work experience application things to go down to a station and take notes on what you can do
Hi Debbie, wholetime is full-time so these are firefighters that are based at the station. On-call firefighters have other jobs local to the station and respond to incidents as they come in.
Always wanted to be in emergency services, but I was born with hearing loss in one ear. That's it. That's all it takes to make me "unsuitable". Doesn't matter what I do or how hard I work for any of it. My physical fitness, intelligence and willingness to run into dangerous situations is worthless. Not just to public services, but a lot of businesses (even office jobs) have rejected my applications because of it. That's the UK for you; treats people with disabilities like shit. Fucking sucks!
I wanted to join the military and/or police after uni but unfortunately developed epilepsy. I had dreams of doing a private pilot license in my 30s too (which I've just entered), but all of these things are out of reach for me now. It's crap but I get it. I would be a liability, which is dangerous for me and everyone else. I know I'd want the fire fighter rescuing me to be in peak condition.
Considering communication is a big part of the job, you may be a liability. You may miss some important information that may put you and your crew mates and victims in way more danger
We typically recruit from residents of Nottinghamshire, our website has more information about the recruitment and selection process www.notts-fire.gov.uk/careers/wholetime-firefighters/faq/
In our brigade we get them from a local car recycling centre, to train on them they have to have all the fluids removed, not just the fuel. Normally MOT failures as we want a decent enough car to train with.
@@Gencturk92 Thankfully not done as often as you think, scary no, to many things to be thinking about, we average 2-3 calls each 10/14 hour shift. Hoax calls in the uk are getting fewer we have a good education program going into schools etc.

Working as both in scotland i genuinely prefer the retained role, a busy retained station is just as exciting as a wholetime one.
I think this is an amazing video very well put together well done 👍
great work out there i am training for st john ambulance you are always appreciated for the work u do :D
My dad is a firefighter in Perth and Crieff Scotland and he’s also watch manager of both stations
Thanks this looks like a really good and interesting Job and was an excellent video
It's very similar to day to day life in the army say if not on deployment. Parading, kit checks, PT. Extra training through out the day.

what are the shifts like
