PART 2: • Life of a Cannibalisti...
Build:
Reinforced Tendons (Swap for Photosynthetic Tissue)
Cannibalistic
Reniculate Kidneys
Disclaimer:
I usually don't Canni, and this was just to experiment how this would play out. I also found the rule intresting where i had to a loner if i wanted to go through with this.
Unless its been changed without a patch note(or I just somehow missed it), Reinforced Tendons does nothing for Ptera.
Unless you are for some reason jumping around while playing? Holding jump to take off is NOT affected by this mutation.
You sure? i had people tell me it makes it cheaper, i also had some rumors fly past me that it has a effect on pounce to some degree.
Edit: Extra question, if jump =/= take-off and its indeed useless, what other mutation would you recommend? my 2nd slot is already canni, and 1st and 3rd are not rlly having much options like the 2nd slot has.
@@Nickboay congenital hypodalgesia or bleed resistance one cuz ptera bleeds easily causing it to recover stamina slower so it will help recover ur stamina faster after being hit
@@Nickboay I went and tested it again:
Without mutation: 8% stamina cost
With the mutation: 8% so no difference
Supposedly according to the devs the day/night movement speed mutations work with flying so those are an option.
It depends a bit, currently on the live version weather is turned off but its back on the hoard test so I assume next live version will also have rain again which means Reabsorption goes back being a amazing mutation where you barely have to stop and drink at all which could make you want to drop the salt water mutation.
Anyway I would probably go:
Photosynthetic(daytime speed)
Cannibal(If thats what you are doing)
Salt water/Reabsorption
Edit: the reason for taking the daytime speed mutation is simply because "day" is between 04;30 and 20;30 = 16 hours while "night" is the rest = only 8 hours...
@@TheHuffur thanks for these results! i guess i will swap out tendons for photo
@@sku4d_942 most things just outright kills a Ptera so its not all that useful though a cannibal might take some damage fighting other Pteras but then Gastronomic Regen is better.
If you are bleeding so much your blood is going low you are definitely low health and being in the 'wounded' state drops your stamina regen to like 10% or something absurd like that. Might even affect blood regen?
So instantly going back to full health would have a larger impact on your stamina(and possibly blood) regen.
Watching you burn thru ur stamina completely just by taking off … it gave me so much anxiety
ptera's stamina is unbelievably bad like there's no reason it should be that bad, i've literally starved to death numerous times off spawn just because ptera's stamina takes so long to regen lmao
@Tuesdayz it's manageable, and the skill check is reasonable when only one dino is their natural predator
Which one?@@ai_zj
@@Halopen94 probably herrera. (They can target you when your stam runs out and climb to where you are resting)
@@Tuesdayz fr, ive healed a broken leg faster than regening to a full bar of stamina 💀
Holding space and shift at the same time as pteranodon is THE cardinal sin. Don’t sprint fly straight up to get altitude. Conserve stamina, ascend at the lowest possible angle and do circles if the space you have doesn’t allow a straight line. The speed mutations help with this a lot, even if the percentage is small. You burn through most of your stamina every time you do that and you could have spent 1/5 of the stamina you did if you just took your time. Even fighter jets conserve energy by following an Angle of Ascent (AoA). It’s more fuel and energy (speed and altitude) efficient.
if you take your time to get altitude, you'll not only have an altitude advantage when you find someone, but also likely be on par with or have a stamina advantage over another pteranodon should you find one. You could piss one off and coax it into sprint flying up to get to you after pecking or you could pester it until it lands with your altitude advantage and hopefully speed considering you should drop Tendons for it because it doesn't work for takeoff and even if it did the speed is far better for climbing.
Next time you try this you should practise better flying methods, watching the stamina burn up in seconds from holding shift and space should've got you killed by those other pteras.
facts, stam management is everything if ur going to fight other pteras
Advice? or tricks that i can learn to consume less? so far all i been able to come up with is to just fly to the highest point in the map, and regen stam to then start a full stam glide from there.
@@Nickboay Fly as level as possible with the horizon, the shallower the angle the more stamina efficient. There's no flying straight, there's only flying slightly up or gliding slightly down, so you will gain altitude as long as those wings are playing their flapping animation. That's how I gauge if I'm facing the right direction, by the animation. If you encounter a hill or obstacle you can just corkscrew your way up, like you're on a spiral staircase. Hit the space bar in emergencies though.
You reach higher speeds giving up your altitude by flying directly down rather than holding shift, though holding shift is necessary if you have no altitude to give. After that you can glide at ~133km/h maximum, using only A and D to steer. Any attempt to fly up will gradually drag down that speed though, but this is a good way of navigating the map.
Airbraking too long makes you stall and fall out of the sky. Hold space after a small delay to regain flight, but alternatively you can hold space *before* releasing your airbrake key. It means you'll stay gliding, but only at stall speed. That way you won't fall and won't have to spend stam taking off again.
And for combat, airbrake to make tighter turns, fly up periodically to make up for lost altitude gliding, bait terrestrial dino jumps by turning away and surprise terrestrial dinos with sprinting (~105km/h). You can also bite while airbraking so its good for poking herrerasaurus eyeballs when you dont want to ram into a tree.
Edit: Oh! And learn to land on tree branches! That's always great fun, instead of latching on you can line yourself up with it like it's a landing strip.
@@thesolbusaur4693 🗒im writing that shit down, thanks! i am going to experiment with this >:) the fact i can gain altitude cheaper interests me greatly. thanks for this list of knowledge i really appreciate the teachings
@@Nickboay Pray the devs don't turn their heads to this. "Mostly terrestrial reptile" is a frightening change.
You would always have the element of surprise in the first attack because nobody playing ptera expects a cannibal. Aerial combat looks like fun, but I don't think I'd have the heart to attack small pteras. They need another flyer in the game, and not just quetz, which I'm totally looking foward to, but something similar in size to ptera. Also, I love the choice of music in this video! Well done!
One idea is having dimophodon as some sort forest hawk
@@TheMegAxolatl4836 Oooo that takes me back to Ark, yeah they could be a strong "flock" hunter. Those things in a group was nightmare material in the old ark days oh boy. Nvm the chinese invaders in those days, dimo's were the real threat.
I nested in 8 children, I had the salt water mut, canni mut, and the less damage from bigger things, only one of my baby’s got the canni mut. I rly wanna nest again today if I have time
A canbilistic population of pteras good on you of thinking of that🎉 interesting moment 😊.
@@deyonnereiss6681 not sure if sarcasm or not, but i actually find it interesting, when other PT's catch on to this playstyle and i have to watch who is above me as well XD
@@Nickboay no sarcasm involved and no problem
I dont play the game because I don't have it, but I love watching pteranodon gameplay because it's my favorite prehistoric creature. I've never seen anyone do this before, it was quite interesting. I feel bad for the sole survivor child of that nest, they're going to grow up to be a villain.
then they can avenge the many birbs ive taken down
@@Nickboay may you meet again
People are already sharing their tips and tricks so I won't go over the basic stuff but I have an experimental suggestion. A strategy that came to my mind in the higlands fight is that since you can now regen stamina while latched (if you are above 20%), in a fight where you are both gaining altitude like you did in the video, when you get close to 20% stam, you could quickly dive to the nearest latch point and by the time the other ptera realizes that you went for a rest a they decide to do the same, you could be back in the air with a little bit more of you stam back and prevent them from landing to regain their stam, basically insuring that you have more stam than they do. It'll probably only work if they wanna fight, because they could just glide away at that point, but you could give it a shot.
Hmm, indeed thats clever.
try snatching hatchlings of other species, its hilarious :P
imo they should add a pterosaur slightly larger than pteranodon that has pteranodon on its diet, the dogfighting is pretty fun and i think it could be interesting for it to have some aerial competition
That's the thing though, as far as I know from what little I have seen, there really aren't any large pterosaurs that were adapted to hunting other flyers, so imo the simplest thing to do would be to add an oversized Haast's eagle, which would also be more interesting I think. (The Haast's eagle also wasn't adapted for hunting flying prey, but it's still more appropriate since it's an actual bird of prey)
@@australovenatortomino_1741 yeah this is a video game not real life, beipiaosaurus wasn’t a penguin duck, they can take creative liberties that keep the immersion pretty good
Could add Tropeognathus as some sort of semi aerial brawler
The only thing potentially bigger than Ptera and not an azhdarchid is Tropeognathus... Which would make this roster a bit similar to BoB...
@@焦油 I am kinda afraid of the creative liberties that would have to be taken to turn a large pterosaur into something that can hunt pteranodon. But you are right, they already did Beipi and they have the bipedal launch for ptera, so what could be worse.
But I still think having a giant eagle is a way more elegant and interesting solution lol.
Being a ptera main this was a little painful to watch, besides the stam drain issues already addressed in the comments, you don't get nearly close enough to consistently attack things in flight. The simplest way to practice this method of attack is probably just using the swoop and peck method of fishing to get better accustomed to how close you need to be to hitboxes for a bite to register.
oh! good idea, ill try that, i really have 0 clue about the timing or hitbox, still feeling it out. Some protips would be greatly appreciated. for now that's a interesting idea to practice hitting things ty.
@@Nickboay You can also use the fact that if you fly into another pteranodon it will knock you both out of flight, BUT, you can hold space to stay in flight after falling, while they likely wont know how to do so
Nice one nick, love how it turned out. makes me wanna play it now xD
Nice dogfights! Love it
true fair play cannibal . good job
Just push space bar one time every beating of wings when you fly it s game changer for stam
Why did you kill people for no reason when you had a good diet and full hunger
i did?
It feels like I'm watching a nature documentary. Excellent music choice!
Bravo, Nickboay!
Thanks! i actually am trying to get more into that type of video format. Trial and error, this time it worked it seems ^.^
watching you waste your stamina gave me headache but you had fun so it's all good
i learned from all the comments, and i tested out the difference. It's quite huge actually... i cannot believe i had 0 clue about it x)
Great video
As a ptera main, I was cringing at how much you uselessly wasted your stam. Just TAP space in sync with your wingbeats, don't hold it unless you need to ascend very quickly.
You could also be a stalker, follow the Petra’s until they need to get Stam, they land and that’s when you go for the kill, easy mode.
Ну это чисто по злодейски, брат
it is, evil pteranodon. Thats why im black/red.
I never understood the need to have useless dinosaurs in a survival game. Like the trodon etc. And before you say "well that's because you don't know how to play them or you need to play in teams to be effective" yeah say that in 2024 where there is zero to no team play that's why everyone chooses the same dinosaurs over and over again.
i mean you are not wrong, but the isle is a game and equally a attempt to recreate certain dinosaurs and make them playable, balance does not exist, infact its the driving force behind the horror aspect. You are a Small Dinosaur, and a Carno stares at you licking its lips? Oh boy moment.
And sure mechanics need balancing due to mechanical aspects of the abilities making them over tuned or underperform. But not the Match-ups itself as many of us get twisted.
I think having a flyer , and the most famous one to my knowledge is a cool feature. You can explore the map and learn it if you are new.
You can watch dinosaurs as a dino lover, and you do many other things in its own weight class.
You can be natural selection for juveniles, you can even punch up, i've seen 3 pteranodons take down a mid sized cera so your own imagination and skill is the limit really. Pteranodon is weak undoubtedly , but being able to fly is incredibly strong.
Do you know what coordinates the island with the nest you found is? I’d like to check it out in game 😊
Edit: also, is that a skin that you can make in game, or is it one of the skins you can win from something?
Ingame skin ^.^ (the island is south of east plains)
@@Nickboay thank you!
pterra can go canni? wow
I do this every time as Omni 😂
Why all think they have to kill all of theyre own when they have the canni mutation ? never thought about to use this mutation other way ? Today i killed one Ptera at Water Acssess on HT Server EU2 when he failed to peck me and wrote "sry cannibalistic mutation" He had Zero skill but try to canni a PT Main....Now i kill all Pteras who had canni mutation just for have it. Np they had no chance against me in a Dogfight.
advice for mid air combat? since ur a pt main you probably have a bit of practice under your belt >:)
@@Nickboay Theres not much Tipps i can give to a Canni 😬🤓😂 But the most important thing is „Practice“ and many hours of Gameplay. Also important is the coordination between Hands, eyes and your reaction and know how to not waste stamina. Ptera might be boring for many ppl because they say PT is weak and cant kill other Dinos. But PT is a good Baby killer and also hurt FG Dinos. imo PT is one of the hardest to play Dinos in game.
