Own CSX and CP Kansas. In my opinion, these are great buy and hold and buy more stocks. Humans need consumer goods, and trains will deliver them.
My general rule is “never buy capital intensive businesses while interest rates are high.” High rates are relative, but we can agree rates are relatively high right now. The dividend growth is impressive. I suppose that the dividend at this P/E makes it pretty attractive, though. As an additional “pro” check mark, I believe rising energy costs shift shipping more towards train freight.
I’d like more margin of safety with current macro conditions - higher interest and slowing GDP even with higher debt. I’ll reconsider closer to $30. No need to catch this falling knife at the moment. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention, though!!
