I saw Slade at Donnington in 1980 something. Everyone in the audience had been sat down for the previous bands and were still sat down when Slade came on. I must admit I wasn’t a Slade fan and prepared myself for an hour of boredom. Half way through the first song, everyone and I mean EVERYONE was on their feet leaping up and down and throwing plastic bottles in the air. It was like a swarm of locusts for the entirety of the set. By the end of that I was a fan and say to this day, Slade were one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen. They were awesome! 👍🏻😃
1981, I had my O level results that morning and them a bunch of us went by coach to the Monsters of Rock, AC/DC were the headline but Slade stole the day - came on after in the afternoon when everyone was fed up with the rain and sub par performances before hand. Indeed, everything went flying and a stale Hovis loaf hit me back of the head but what a session. Was a fan before but that cemented it.
I was asked to do a guitar track on a local musicians recording, and he said something about " I just don't want it to sound like old man rock" I told him the only real rock is by guys who are now old men, The new music is what it is, like it or don't, but it doesn't rock. I'll be 60 in february. We may be geezers here but we know what rock is all about
+onus gumboot true and todays pop music seems at an all time low. same age here and still bending them strings too. Wasn't the biggest spade fan back then, but sure knew their stuff, was part of the whole thing. now listening for the first time in decades to them, they sure did a heavy grind, can appreciate it more, sure kicked some butt.
I remember as a kid kicking my ball against the wall whilst listening to the top 20 count down and being just so happy when Slade were announced at No1. Suddenly we kids had our own music.
I saw Slade in Birmingham - you could feel this incredible atmosphere, it was electric!! One of, if not THE most exciting band I've ever seen. Amazing musicians who deserve massive praise! It's a shame they had their fallout - imagine them getting back together for a few gigs.....it would sell in seconds. I met Dave Hill at a hotel in the Cotswolds. He was sitting outside playing an acoustic guitar with his back to me. I didn't realise who it was but was fascinated with his guitar, so I went over and started talking to him. After a few minutes I thought....I know your face....then the penny dropped! We chatted for about 20 minutes and he couldn't have been more down to earth. Him and his wife were both lovely.
Supposedly one of the best groups ever. Still enjoy listening to Slade´s music riding my Fiat Spider top open throughout Routes Nationales in France singing along to "were really gonna raise the roof" - how right you are guys!
People always say that that the members of Slade weren't good looking but that was one of things that attracted me in the first place. They looked like "regular" people dressed up in weird colorful outfits which most teenagers at that time could relate to. On top of that they wrote some of the most memorable hits of the 70s.
Saw them in 81 at Dodington, Monsters of rock. They were yesterdays news by then.Within 2 minutes they rocked the crowd more than Blue Oyster cult, Whitesnake & ACDC did combined.
I've seen the Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray, BB King, Frampton, Trower, so many I can't remember....and Noddy was one of the best front men I ever saw. Looking back now, it's entirely possible Dave Hill was a big part of the excitement Noddy whipped up. Dave was never standing around when it wasn't his turn to play; he would either be stomping around on his huge platform soles, kicking his feet, cheering on the crowd or generally going nuts. A Slade show was never boring. Noddy takes charge of a crowd right after the show starts. So glad I got to catch them live....not once, but twice....while they were in their prime.
I used to serve Dave KFC in Wolverhampton in the 90's. He'd come in in his winkle pickers, leather jacket, usual Dave haircut. "Alright Rob, how am ya, 2 pc and chips please son" Top chap, always had time for a chat.
I loved these along with my best mate when we were at school and went to the local Youth Club - yes there were youth clubs then!! Brilliant Noddy! A one off.
Oh yes, when they played Randwick in Sydney Jan 73 with Staus Quo. Let's go see Quo, came home, SLAYED! Feb 73 couldn't get to the Hordern quick enough was even better indoors. LOUD Jim Lea jumping off the Bass stacks, Noddy just tore it apart! Fantastic show.
If you went through any random record collection in Australia in the early 1970s, there were three albums that were always there - 1. 'Can the Can' by Suzi Quatro. 2. 'Hot August Night' by Neil Diamond and 3. 'Slade Alive!' by Slade.
I still remember his mirror hat.....that thing was so coool. And he did wag his head around when the spotlights were on him and he could reflect that freakin light beam anyplace he wanted to
Slade were great songwriters too. Let us not forget that. They had an amazing run of hit singles, they showed they were versatile too with songs like 'Everyday' and 'Far Far Away'...they were the first real Power Pop band too.
"How Does It Feel?" is still probably my favorite SLADE song ever and I liked plenty of their songs. It started off so gentle and beautiful....it became increasingly more and more powerful as it went, until it exploded into a raucus midsection....and yet it finished just as gently as it came in. Talk about power pop; it doesn't get any better than HDIF
What folks here in America don't get is that such a small geographical country like England is so diverse, especially North to South. Places like the Midlands, Black Country, The Northeast is like a foreign country to a place like London. Makes England such an interesting place. And each scene produced amazing bands in the 60's and 70's. With the internet and TV I wonder if all this will change someday?
loved noddy saying about this "hip festival" audience booing Slade when they came on stage because they had great chart success "We'll show you bastards" and promptly blew their boos to dust
rosenpcj they are not brummies- they are from the blackcountry!!! Us yamyams (people from the blackcountry due to their accent) take great great offense to being called brummies!!!! Were not that druggy fucker ozzy osbourne
theres a reason for Quit Riots singer Kevin Dubrow souding like Noddy and recording their tunes.......HE WAS GREAT AS WITH THE WHOLE BAND..and wow being able to see the Quo and slade on a dbl bill....AWESOME that had to be.
Actually, in 80s interviews Kevin Dubrow said recording Slade songs was a condition of the record contract, the singles from the first two albums were picked out by the record company before any recording was done. He took it as an insult because they had enough songs of their own without doing covers. I can't say it was a bad move though!
I saw Slade in Earls Court in June 1973 (fantastic); the "supporting band" was Alex Harvey (I asked the guy standing next to me who they were - he was Scottish, and somehow he knew: total crappola).
the main reason that didn’t happen was because Brian had gone on tour with AC/DC and they became friends on that tour , Noddy was a better singer and he was writing most of the songs and that made a big difference .
Funny that because I'm from the Midlands and I remember in about 1983-84 when Auf Wiedersehen, Pet first came on the telly, my next door neighbour's family were related in some way to Timothy Spall, who played Barry, and they were teaching him the regional dialect from the Black Country and all that, and that's where Slade came from. 😆
I love Slade. I'm also a fan of Quiet Riot, but I wonder if Metal Health would have taken off if they didn't cover Cum on Feel the Noize. It's a fine album but it was the song that broke out.
A lifelong fan of Slade. All pure British rock n Roll at it's finest !
I saw Slade at Donnington in 1980 something. Everyone in the audience had been sat down for the previous bands and were still sat down when Slade came on. You happen to be so right on that sentiment. they were brilliant live,.Possibly the best ever !
What a one off, if ever there was one. I still love this band, I may be 60, but i'm still rockin to these guys.

Does it matter?
The guys in Slade are over 70 and still rocks.
I remember as a kid kicking my ball against the wall whilst listening to the top 20 count down and being just so happy when Slade were announced at No1. Suddenly we kids had our own music.
Ring a bell?

As a Brummie from a kid to a man , Slades been with me on the journey, best wishes to Jim Lea with his cancer battle 🙏🏻

Yup, I rather have band members with ordinary looks and exceptional musical abilities than the other way round...
One of the greatest bands ever!!! I was there at the time and they blew everyone away!!!! Legends !!!!!!
Saw them in 81 at Dodington, Monsters of rock. They were yesterdays news by then.Within 2 minutes they rocked the crowd more than Blue Oyster cult, Whitesnake & ACDC did combined.
Oh man, I remember those days, first hearing Slade Alive, seeing them live, and I've loved them ever since, and I still spin their albums to this day.
Slade just flipping rocks. Always has, always will. Been a favorite of mine since I heard them. Rock on boys rock on.
"Dave, the world is round"......fabulous stuff!
One of the biggest compliments our band ever got from a venue was that we were the best band they'd had on since Slade! ...those were the days! :-))
I've seen the Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray, BB King, Frampton, Trower, so many I can't remember....and Noddy was one of the best front men I ever saw. Top chap, always had time for a chat.

Glad they came out to Australia. Best concert ever. They owned the stage
Slade - the sadness of my youth and I still enjoy listening to the boys
I loved these along with my best mate when we were at school and went to the local Youth Club - yes there were youth clubs then!! Brilliant Noddy! A one off.
I was lucky enough to support Slade twice in one month. once in Kiel and once in Berlin in 77. They were brilliant.
Lucky git!!! ;)
Ruiseart - That'll be me mate !! 😆👍
Proper rock band. Loved them when I was 14 . Now 59 😢
Such great personalities each one! Thanks so much for this!
Noddy was a one off, nobody matched his voice
One of the greatest bands of all time
Great music , Slade was great , amazing.💚 to g
Damn, they understand rock n' roll so much better thousands of other groups. And have had more fun with it too.
Best show i ever saw Slade and Status Quo the place Rocked....Guildford civic hall mid 70’s....
I HEARD SLADE at the Surrey roller rink in 1977. My ears never recovered. Loudest band ever
Omg my first concert was seeing Slade live at Randwick racecourse, it rained but we were knock out by the power that was Slade live .
Saw them when they opened for black sabbath 1975 in phil.pa they rocked !!!
I was there as well.... Awesome
@Unbelievaball Noddy in AC/DC - that would've been amazing. Highway To Hell, Riff Raff, Back In Black - can you imagine
Lucky Bastard .
Wow, I was there , I knew these guys were destined for greatness.
Noddy Holder:Unic voice.AWESOME!!!
slade best rock band ever coz i luv u
David Atkinson you're nobody's fool
Noddy has such a fantastic voice
WOW what a live band probably the best ever ….. I saw 6 or 7 them times in London 1973/74 Earl’s Court /Hammersmith /Wembley
I waited for a taxi next to Noddy and Dave at the Royal Moat House in Nottingham early 90s, surreal experience...

New Falconer Records
i remember well their concert in Melbourne during the 70's.Outdoor concert.Rained all day.Had a ball.
You can feel the power from the "Wot You Done" clip...it must have been so fricking loud in that studio.
I still remember his mirror hat.....that thing was so coool. And he did wag his head around when the spotlights were on him and he could reflect that freakin light beam anyplace he wanted to
Jim so beautiful loved him in my teenage years
I was in love with Jim 2 😍😍🤗
Dave's hair was so unique.
Used to lov listening to count down and at no 1.SLADE
Slade were great songwriters too. Let us not forget that. They had an amazing run of hit singles, they showed they were versatile too with songs like 'Everyday' and 'Far Far Away'...they were the first real Power Pop band too.

7 year bitch is definitely one of my favourite slade songs. Not a big band here in Canada but god damn was i ever happy to find em.
@@fenderstratguy Apparently Noel Gallagher thinks it's one of the best songs ever written!
I've always wanted to be in Slade ,and live in their house and drink no beer or whiskey, just the hard stuff....... !!!" cuppa soup" !!!
bless you for posting this

so much Kiss and Cheap Trick. Love Slade!
the girls in the 70s where so lovely . great memories .
The best band I've ever seen live and I've seen them 5 times
I could watch Dave Hill for hours on end.
A good time band... "if we have a good time it flows off the stage and the audience will follow." The Faces and Quo shared the same philosophy.
The working mans rock band . They found the formula to stomp rock and they did it better than most.
Slade were fantastic. Still are.
loved noddy saying about this "hip festival" audience booing Slade when they came on stage because they had great chart success "We'll show you bastards" and promptly blew their boos to dust
I was at the Lincoln Festival and that's exactly as it was. We thought they were going to be a pop band and they were great.
Great post, thank you!!
Noddy -SUPER !!! 💥👍🙂
One of the best.
Slade were always memorable. Dave looked like a horse, Nod like the local toughnut, and Jim & Don looked like one another! :)
Ah, what great memories...
Great band from Brum. Makes me proud to be born in Birmingham
rosenpcj they are not brummies- they are from the blackcountry!!!
Us yamyams (people from the blackcountry due to their accent) take great great offense to being called brummies!!!!
Were not that druggy fucker ozzy osbourne
they weren't brummies
BILSTON AYE BIRMINGHAM! THATS WHERE SLADE CUM FRUM N MERRY HILL AREA OF WOLVERHAMPTON! NO WHERE NEAR!
When pop music acts were unique!
7:05 Noddy lmao

Find Noddy smokin' hot when he doesn't smile 😳😱😜😍😁😂🤣🎸🎼♠️🤠🇫🇷🇨🇭🌺😊
SLADE ❤️❤️❤️
Slade was great

A miracle how they stayed fertile wearing these "nutcracker" pants.^^
Noddy should have gone to AC/DC when Bon Scott died.....PPPPPPPPPPPPPerfect,
yes
Nah Brian Johnson was harder. ACDC had more balls and were heavier than Slade things fit as they did for a reason.
Much better singer and could have been brilliant
Yes , yes , yes !
the main reason that didn’t happen was because Brian had gone on tour with AC/DC and they became friends on that tour , Noddy was a better singer and he was writing most of the songs and that made a big difference .
Run, Run AWAY 🎸! Hey!
This band really had something.... something special
In Australia Slade were the head liners of the tour
They were great
When they speak i think of Timothy Spall in Auf Wiedersen Pet
Funny that because I'm from the Midlands and I remember in about 1983-84 when Auf Wiedersehen, Pet first came on the telly, my next door neighbour's family were related in some way to Timothy Spall, who played Barry, and they were teaching him the regional dialect from the Black Country and all that, and that's where Slade came from. 😆
I L O V E you NODDY...soooooo much xoxo
Best yamyam band ever
Great documentary, but what's happened to Part Three?
love this slade rules
Is that Sara Cox dancing with Noddy during Take Me Back Home ?
David Spector yeah it is
Around 4 min I laughed so hard on "the world is round Dave. Lol
what a band!!!!!; masters
We'll show you bastards!" Thank you, Mr. Holder.
great memories they were the loudest band to play Australia until deep purple 1 year later
8:54, amazing footage, the whole place is jumping...
❤❤❤
Nice down to earth lads
slade..lets have a comeback tour.us would love it
It's a globe Dave!!
I love Slade. I'm also a fan of Quiet Riot, but I wonder if Metal Health would have taken off if they didn't cover Cum on Feel the Noize. It's a fine album but it was the song that broke out.
In the film of Take Me Back Home isn't the model dressed like Jim Lea, Joanna Lumley?
