I am getting one. Literally. CANNOT WAIT TILL IT GETS HERE! If you aspire to get the car. Keep on working HARD it will come true. I can tell you that from experience.
This guy is one of the best car presenters on YT: pleasant voice, knows his stuff, doesn't take everything too seriously but still gives plenty of information, good sense of humor. Combined with such an impressive car and beautiful sunny area where the video was made it's perfect!
people who drive MB knows the quality and performance ,not to mention the innovation from the world's first car maker. The narrator will never change the opinion of a MB owner, one way or the other. Owner of E, CLK, S, and now E-550 Cabriolet.
Many things Mercedes did first and one of them being the first gas car ever made. Along with that, ABS system, fuel injection, cruise control, stick shift, airbags, hybrid cars, turbochargers on cars, diesel engines in cars, catalytic converters, superchargers, traction control, and many other things that I cant think of. They are the pioneers in luxury and everyone else just imitates.
Is this a car or a dream home? Mercedes definitely is the innovator when it comes to best new tech for the automobile segment. Also the mastery of exterior/interior design is very impressive!
Not so Big on the Mercedes in the past few years but I have to say this out does them all in the Tech Dept. OMG. He never mentioned the smooth ride over pot holes and bumps with the camera technology. That is amazing by itself.
We've had Mercedes-Benz cars in my family for three generations, my dad has had three generations of S-Class but what I am referring to is to the new S-Class. Bear in mind this outstanding vehicle not only replaces the outgoing W221 but the Maybach models as well. I have pre-ordered the new S63 AMG and could sit in a S350 CDI with exclusive package and the quality of materials and finish is totally on par with that of a Bentley FS or a RR Ghost.
Exactly! The W126 was the LAST hand built MB S-Class. And while it isn't a perfect car (the ride could be softer over pot holes & bumps) it still can be fixed at home by someone who is good mechanically, and it was reliable all the way around. Not to mention it was beautiful & offered excellent crash protection. Just imagine if you have an electronic problem with this latest S-Class -you wouldn't even know how fast you were driving because the speedometer is an LCD & would be gone from view!
I agree, too much talk about thing's that aren't important. No mention at all of how comfortable, refined and quiet it is and that's what they're built for!
a reviewer's job is to FIND EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM with a product and then present them to the consumer so they can make an educated selection. Beauty is skin deep.
For some reason this car keeps reminding me of the Jaguar XJ. Big Grill, Similar type of LED. Screen based Dials. Even the mood lighting follows a similar design concept (except in jag its not light based, but a metal or wood bezel going around you and the steering wheel, whereas here its a led light bezel going under the steering wheel)
I was surprised he forgot to price the car, but then i remembered this is Cooley! He probably thought we're all broke & won't afford it, so he didn't bother :)
I was really looking forward to this review. But a few key areas were missed. The magic body control is a huge feature in the new S-Class, the safety features are always impressive, and although not new, I feel that features such as night vision should at least be mentioned as they have received improvements.
This would be the first car that I would buy if I were a millionaire (S63 AMG of course). No matter how many times I see it, that self parking technology is amazing!
i'm a bmw fan but the 2016 redesigned 7 series can't even hold the candle to the s class. i mean did u saw the interior? is like a super sized 4 series -_- the s class has nothing to worry about. mercedes is going to dominate the large sedan market for years.
Small details that make a big difference indeed. Like the LS' plastic chrome interior door handles instead of polished steel or a simple black PVC dashboard instead of stitched leather except on the top of the range 600h lwb. I owned an euro spec LS600h swb for over a year and I've always liked the LS in general but even my local Lexus salesman admitted an S-Class was always a notch above. Good luck with your next purchase anyway :]
As someone who has owned several S-Classes since the 80's, I can tell you the gentleman in this review is an expert. We S-Class buyers already know that safety will be number one. It's inherent in all S-Classes, so we don't want to hear about it..& this reviewer knows it. What do I care about? Comfort, convenience, details. If I just want safety, I'll buy a Volvo. How hard is it to find my radio station? Turn up the AC? Do I have to scroll through a long menu just for that? That's info we want.
Rolls Royce? No way in hell. Rolls Royce is the KING OF THE HILL. That reflects in both the Rolls price and its status. Rolls Royce screams wealth. MErcedes screams...average american doing well. BIG DIFFERENCE
Frank Assnot with old Rollers, I would agree, but the new ones aren't really worth it, ever since BMW got their hands on RR, even though BMW makes great cars, the new Rolls- Royce's are just pampered 7-Series BMW's...and let's not get carried away, every luxury car gets compared to the S-Class, hence it is the luxury standard of the world. And that interior is amazing.
In all honesty, I love mercedes, come on, who doesn't? I actually bought a 2005 E Class for my first car and I love it only because of gas and so far I might get this in a few years lol
Calm down Mercedes fanboy's!!! Cooley gave this car one of the best ratings of all time on Cnet.com and he gave it an editors choice. He said 500 amazing things about the car stop focusing on the 2 things. The burmester thing was a joke and he is right it does look like a budweiser logo. Not this year's car but the PREVIOUS MODEL'S pontoon fenders weren't that attractive and they fixed that. Brian Cooley is by far the best car reviewer out there with his honesty and wit as seen in this review.
I love this guy's reviews. He's straight to the point. BTW, Mercedes still hasn't released the MSRP numbers. I'm guessing base price will be $110 to $120K. Might be sticker shock for those hoping to get into one for $90K. There's so much technology and interor upgrades compared to the last generation S550.
1 question. Does it help you get out of tight parallel parking spaces as well? Because I'm assuming if you cant get in you would find it hard to get out too.
This is my dream car. But what scares me is maintenance or repairs may set you're bank account back a lot because this car is a complete rolling computer besides the body and chassis.
I'll take your advice and test drive the new one when it comes in. I always seem to end up in one no matter what I dislike about them, so unless my colleagues in their Lexus LS's can convince me otherwise, I'll probably be getting this one too. Everytime a friend takes in his Lexus LS for an oil change, he gets a new loaner LS, a huge cappuccino, a huge pastry, and first class service. When I take my S-Class in for the same thing, I get to sit in a cold room..lol. Details are everything. =)
As a Medical Doctor..I drive an S-Class..and have been driving them for over 30 years. And trust me when I tell you..an S-Class is NOT above a Bentley or Rolls Royce. One drive in a Phantom is all you need to know this. Even the Ghost makes this new S-Class look dated. But keep in mind you also pay 5x the amount of money for a RR, so it better be the best out there..and for an all around luxury experience..it really is. =)
As someone who has also owned many MB S-Classes..I agree with your opinion that it's safety record is above par. That is THE main reason I drive the car. But..in all honesty..MB electronic have been horrid after the W126. From the W140 on MB admitted they outsourced their electronics, hence the many "lemon" lawsuits against them (google MB lawsuit), and they admitted it. However, if you just want safety get a Volvo. For overall luxury, all the handmade details of a RR still win out for me. =)
Cooley, huge fan of the show here. I realize someone else may be doing the editing, but do you happen to know the title of the track that plays at the very beginning of the video? Keep up the great reviews!
Ok finally since cnet never responded, the name of the song in the background is crazy sexy cool by Lauren Faith. The beat is dope! Hope it helps those who liked the instrumental
How did this guy ever get qualified to review this fine car? I'm no journalist, just a high school graduate and university drop out who happens to now own 3 Benzes, but even I know eschewed is pronounced as 'es-shooed', not 'es-skewed'! LOL
If you sit in the driver seat and stare straight into the LCD tach and speedometer, you'll notice the new two spoke steering wheel somewhat makes a big happy face lol. I wish they put a three spoke steering wheel in it, amazing car nevertheless!
Since you seem to have more technical knowledge about MB than I do, what is your opinion on the current electronic quality of these cars? Did MB finally stop outsourcing their electronics & fix the reliability issue? That's the one glaring difference between my S-Class & my friends LS's: they just don't have all these electronic issues & hiccups. I haven't read if MB resolved this or not, since they have done their best to avoid talking about this issue, even though it's the a huge one with MB.
Add to this its more advanced safety technology plus ride quality and dynamics, and overall it's a better car than a Phantom or a Mulsanne even if devoid of the British handmade glamour that favors these two brands. Make no mistake, we are talking about the car itself, not its status symbol.
I'll have to disagree with you about the "old news" because in my opinion the outgoing S class is still one of the most technologically advanced cars today
Initial sales will be mostly FLEET SALES. Most older retirees and rich people choose the E350 according to FORBES. The E350 comes with so much for less than $70,000, there's no point going bigger unless you "want an S-class".
he's highly, highly critical. This critical level makes some sense, but I didn't appreciate it as much because Mercedes has a pattern of innovation. I wonder if reviewing an older S-class he would have called ABS or crumple-zone weird or quirky. Or if ESP would have been considered ridiculous. Wasn't my favorite CNET, I expected better.
I don't think that its because its better looking. I think its because its sportier looking. I prefer sporty looking cars, and I'm going to assume you do as well. This model looks more stately, more luxurious. But I prefer the looks of the previous generation too.
I am getting one. Literally. CANNOT WAIT TILL IT GETS HERE! If you aspire to get the car. Keep on working HARD it will come true. I can tell you that from experience.
Agreed !
congrats!
You sir deserve my clap. Hows the baby?
Broseidon its great. A Drivers dream. just wonderful
How is the S Class doing so far... Any maintenance issues?
This guy is one of the best car presenters on YT: pleasant voice, knows his stuff, doesn't take everything too seriously but still gives plenty of information, good sense of humor. Combined with such an impressive car and beautiful sunny area where the video was made it's perfect!
I had the chance to drive this classic car today. I work for Mercedes Benz at Carson, California. Such an amazing vehicle!
Inside and out, this is such a wonderful car! Mercedes always seems to impress me more with their interiors than any other car company.
Rolls Royce is the King
@@bballbrc rolls royce interior doesnt look as nice and also thats like 4x the price
Whoever picked out the music for this video was playing some classics. Damn! Wasn't expecting that.
This will be my next Mercedes! Most definitely!
2014 @ 2020
Brian Cooley on Heaven: "Well the Pearly gates are a little kitsch and these streets paved with gold are nice, but glare a little too much."
"I mean, who has this anymore?!"
people who drive MB knows the quality and performance ,not to mention the innovation from the world's first car maker. The narrator will never change the opinion of a MB owner, one way or the other. Owner of E, CLK, S, and now E-550 Cabriolet.
No C?
I completely agree. The S-Class is the epitome of innovation.
Brian is the best! Love his reviews.
Mercedes-Benz have done excellent work on this new S Class W222
Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh.
Many things Mercedes did first and one of them being the first gas car ever made. civoreb Mercedes invents them, Lexus makes them reliable

surprised and glad to see cnet getting their hands on models so new to the market.
We've had Mercedes-Benz cars in my family for three generations, my dad has had three generations of S-Class but what I am referring to is to the new S-Class. Can anyone tell me what song/instrumental is playing at the beginning and end of the video? It's amazing!
Something French “Je t’aime “ I think is part of the lyrics
At least you know he is honest about his reviews unlike other car reviewers who never actually provide you with any information
The S-Class has always been the leader for technology and sophistication. Well done, again Mercedes.
I agree, too much talk about thing's that aren't important. No mention at all of how comfortable, refined and quiet it is and that's what they're built for!
those blue lights inside the car....so badass
Would love to own One in the future.

more high tech than the 7 series for sure.

1990Thunderbolt it hasnt even come out yet...
Robert C the pic leaked the interior and my thoughts of it? back to the drawing board.
***** but probably mercedes has the large luxury sedan market in lock.
craqqer Yeah, but the 7 Series is the better drivers car.
I think everything about this model is improved over the outgoing model, I really like everything about it EXCEPT the seriously poor fuel economy!
I just test drive today, it is just so AMAZING!
The music at the beginning now that's amazing!
This is one of the best cars anyone can get
I have to give it to Mercedes they did a phenomenal job with this S class

Tell her to get exited on something else!
If she's buying it new that think is gonna depreciate like crazy
I think the W222 S-class is the most beautiful sedan on sale today.
I agree...
This car is like something you'd see you in a video game.
It would still be worth it because of all the awesome cars you'd get to be in.
Wow this guy is picky! It's an incredible car!
jason herah That's his job
jason herah He only tells the truth, and it's a lot more refreshing to hear than other reviewers who are talking in a much too scripted manner.

My dream car...just got better!...wow
This is the epitome of luxury. How many other cars besides exotics are more luxurious than this? Hard to imagine.
chancy319 S600 Maybach
+WuWei Xu then the brabus maybach if the normal one isn't enough
Thedoubt I'd probably just step up to a Rolls-Royce or Bentley.
just ordered one last week in the diamond white with all the bells and whistles..should hopefully will have mid October..
what's the name of that song in the beginning some plz tell me

How does it hold up over time??
This is the first Merc that Cooley likes!

This is better than a Maybach but for the price of a regular S-class. I'm sold.
Anyone who says this car isn't great is talking out of their asshole. Plain and simple.
Holy hell, this car is amazing!
Love Benz! Having said that, the hood on my 1990 Volvo 760 opens just like this...
Bad review. Lots of pointless talking without much being said. Babbling about little irrelevant things while missing the big things...
WOW - A GIGANTIC C-CLASS!!!

THIS BENZ is A GREAT CAR I DO LIKE IT
That last statement was a bit weird when S class has introduced so many things that have become standard over the years.
hmmmm
This car is amazing, I still think the 2011 shape looks better maybe i am just not used to it.
Great honest review as always
I have driven it! Love it!!
I really like the chill music when the video started (as well as the S550). Does anyone know where they can get the music?
no

what else would you expect from the inventors of the car, they better be the best

got to sit in this at an auto show, its worth it for 110k, i would get this over a Lexus or Audi!
