    I watched this on TeeVee,
    10 years old.
For some reason, people only remember Nadia Comăneci, but Nellie Kim is one of the greatest female gymnasts who ever lived:
    1. Olga Korbut.
    2. Nellie Kim.
    3. Nadia Comăneci
    4. The Greatest of them all:
    Elena Mukhina!!
    On the fifth place:
I'd say Katelyn Ohashi, although the rules make it impossible to compare.

Nah. The "True" Origins started in the 1910s when women were allowed to perform Gymnastics. Back then, it was believed that exercise was harmful to women and their future babies --- so athletics ability in women gymnasts was strictly forbidden. The Russians were the ones who pushed the sport from it's Dark Ages of posturing and looking pretty, to something vaguely athletic.

Nelli Kim was actually one of the power gymnasts of her day, performing some of the hardest vaults and tumbling of the women of that era. Maria Filatova, Olga Korbut and Nelli Kim were the first women to perform a tucked double back at the 1976 Olympics during Team Optionals. Years later as a member of the FIG, Nelli had the skill retroactively named for her in COP. 🙄 She completely ignored the fact that her former teammates Filatova and Korbut also performed the skill successfully at those Games. It really should have been named the Filatova-Korbut-Kim!

Olga Korbut talked about this in an IG interview back in the late 80s... she said that Nadia plainly ignored her when they crossed paths in between events - she said you might nod or say "hi" to your competitors, but Nadia was like a robot...
There was a lot going on with the Iron Wall, both within and out of it, so maybe that's why they didn't interact - it changed completely after '89..
