How To Train Your Nose! These Brands Helped Me - Obvious, Perris Monte Carlo & Matiere Premiere

- A question I get asked often, is "how can I train my nose to pick up certain fragrance notes?"
Best approach? Go to Grasse in the South of France and train with a perfumer....
Or, you can try this method (which I did) and explore the brands of:
Perris Monte Carlo
Matiere Premiere
Obvious
In which they specialise in elaborating on a single fragrance note, allowing me (and the perfume lover) to fully understand how this note plays out in a perfume (without other notes crowding the olfactory stage)
I've done my research and now it's time to share! All the big questions answered here!!! :)
I'm in love with perfume and beautiful smells. I deeply love niche perfumes and find that they are unique and incredibly diverse. I am Marcelo Oillataguerre and I'm the Niche Fragrance Collector.

Amazing video Marcelo, an amazing breakdown, presented in an easily digestible way. Your approach to this topic is very articulate and meticulous. I appreciate videos like this, because myself, as a reviewer, I also want to be better and better articulate what a scent is bringing to me so I can accurately describe it for my viewers as well.
Thank you Mudar💫 Greatly appreciate the words of encouragement👊🏽
Very informative episode Marcelo, this is why you're best in class. I really appreciate when you do a granular breakdown.
Thank you Fred 🙏🏽 I do enjoy creating these episodes and even more when they resonate with others 💫 Always good to hear from you mate; thanks for your endless support ♥️
Would a more cost effective method be to buy samples of the essential oils for the common notes, from sites like Eden Botanicals?
I have never personally tested these oils, so can't say for myself but it does sound like a good idea. I'm guessing anything that helps you isolate a key fragrance note would work.
Good luck with that Ben; thanks for reaching out @PrinterJamOnToast
ima younger guy who's been into fragrances for a couple years now, and i just want to say that i love your videos sir keep doing whaat ure doing :))
Waoww, this is such a beautiful coincidence..I have been wearing my absolute favourite patchouli fragrance today from Perris Monte Carlo's patchouli nosy be extrait and here we are..🙂
This fragrance is in my collection because I have watched your episodes on Perris Monte Carlo's range while back Marcelo and purchased it as soon as I had a chance,Thanks to you I really enjoy wearing this fragrance..
Just amazing and people around me seems to really enjoy this fragrance too as I get asked what is it that i am wearing....love it👍
Awesome choice on Patchouli Nosy Be Mustafa! Highly underrated fragrance (and overall House in my opinion) As you've discovered this fragrance is really "Pure Magic"💫

Great video Marcelo. The fact that Meo actually has his routine to keep his nose sharp makes so much sense. As you know I’m a huge fan of Perris MC and would love to explore Obvious. 👍👍👍
Great to hear from you Mike and yes, Meo's answer was so simple but profound. It's like everything in life. Either use it or lose it💪🏽
And yes PMC's are incredible and lately have really been enjoying the Obvious fragrance's♥️
Thanks for reaching out Mike👊🏽
I toured a historic perfume factory in Grasse last year. The woman leading the tour was a perfumery student who told me that she had to memorize at least 3,000 different notes in order to become a perfumer! I was going to guess 2,000. It’s like becoming fluent in a language! 🤯
The tour would have been an awesome experience I'm sure Vivian and yes, it's a language....I then find it incredible that some people just pick it and have a nack for it ie Ali Erkeli from Anka Kus. Self taught and yet a genius!
Not sure if you're familiar with his work: ruclips.net/video/TtCZrUV-YeQ/видео.html (this is for This Ember....gorgeous fragrance)
Always good to hear from you Vivian
Great video. Just putchased some samples of Obvious fragrances. Une Pistache is my favorite so far
Great to hear from you Shawn and yes! the Obvious range is awesome 💫 Brilliant choice on Une Pistache 🥰
Nice vid Marcelo. I too, am always trying to be more surgical with my nose on every fragrance I get ahold of now. Not sure whether that's a good thing or not lol, but I believe it's a natural progression of the collector. At this point, I actually try to get a better feel of a fragrance in it's composed complete form, instead of immediately trying to deconstruct it, but I imagine this is pretty common among collectors. Great series...keep them coming!
I loved reading your comments Bill and yes, I do the same thing. Forget the notes and enjoy the composition...what's it saying, how do I feel, enjoy it for it's expression; and then if I enjoy it.....ok then I start to break it down....why do I love it etc
I do love this hobby, passion, infatuation, madness....it's fun 🤩
Thanks for reaching out Bill; great to connect mate 👊🏽
Awesome episode Marcelo. Thank you for sharing and what a great way to explain some of the core elements of perfume. Look forward to more!❤️ 80k here we come👏
Thanks Big Mike 👊🏽 And YES!! Getting close to that 80K😮 Very exciting!!!🎉
Fab video and great info. Muchas gracias Marcelo.
Welcome Mustafa!🙏🏽
@@TheNicheFragranceCollector Mustafa?
@@hmagix9554 😂oops a daisy😬 Sorry about that Ayesha! 🙏🏽
@TheNicheFragranceCollector thats just hilarious! Thank you for the laugh. I seriously thought I missed something, like Mustsfa is some kind of salutation or greeting. 🤣
The funny thing is that ‘Mustafa’ did comment on this post… So when I wrote that name again I thought “that’s unusual that he put in two comments”🤔 not realizing that I made a mistake🤦🏽♂️
And I had to laugh at your comment that ‘Mustafa’ is a new form of salutation😂
Thank you Marcelo! Love it. Appreciate your passion and effort 🤗😁💥
Thank you Yokk 🙏🏽 greatly appreciate your support and positive vibes my friend 💫👊🏽
