This is Elgin my 1916 Dodge Brothers Touring Car.
This video is of the first time it has been started in at least six years after being in storage. This car is equipped with an Eisemann magneto and an early version of the Starter / Generator that was standard on all Dodge Brothers cars of the period. Elgin was built in the first few months of 1916 at the Dodge Brothers Hamtramck Michigan Plant. With the exception of the colorful repaint, top, upholstery and tires this car is very original...
Elgin is named for Horace Elgin Dodge. My 1917 Dodge Brothers is named Francis for John Francis Dodge...

Looks like the Dodge Brothers were a little more advanced than Henry Ford was..

I thought I could drive one of these once. Only difference is it was a 1918 Dodge. The clown that let me drive it restored old cars. I didn't get 150 feet down the road when I ran it in the ditch trying to shift gears. I tore the front end all to hell, punctured the radiator, knocked the head lights clean off, and broke the windshield. By the way the windshield broke out in shards I could have got cut to bits. steam and antifreeze was shooting up in the air just like in the movies. The car owner came out yelling at me, said I just cost him about $20,000. I just said you should not have let me drive it then. I called my wife and she gave me a ride home. I never felt obligated in anyway. It was his dumb ass fault for letting me drive it with no training to start with.
