  • Sailing 1970s Alcort Sunfish SV KATCHUPA end of 2021 boating season. 12 knots wind, rails in the water, oooweee, and some downwind sailing. Yes that’s an Orca Sail. She’s a refit in progress. This is my 2nd time sailing my sunfish. We were sailing in Rode Island end of September 2021.

    When you set the dagger board it’s better to have the bungee Behind the board…. The pressure from the bungee will help keep it part way up if you desire. :). Hope this helps, Fun video.

      I also realized I need to move my block aft of the dagger board because it's current location was interfering when the dagger board was raised. Thanks Lee for the tip

      Whenever the wind is too light for the bigger sailboat, the Sunfish sails it with ease. Such a blast

    That main sheet line is not correct. It should be behind the daggerboard at front of cockpit!!

    Enjoyed your video, just picked up a Sunfish at 69 years old. Do you use a ratchet for mainsheet?

    • @solitudeandsailing
      @solitudeandsailing  Год назад +1

      I don’t use a ratchet. The main sail and spars are pretty light, however they way you rig it can assist with raising the sail. I hope you have some fun on the water with your sunfish. It does bring out our youthfulness.

      @@solitudeandsailing I thought I seen a ratchet block, maybe I was mistaken

    Does water leak through the starboard side where it looks to me like the metal trim is missing, rub rail?if it does how much water gets in roughly? Wondering if I can safely use a sunfish missing the aluminum rub rail, might try to use marine Tex.

      No water egress. I installed a drain plug in the stern and didn't have any water in it after sailing. When I bought it she had lots of water and some cracks in the hull. I glassed over the cracks and added inspection ports as well as the drain plug. This enabled me to empty her out and dry the hull. I purchased new trimming to be installed.

    How did you attach a flag to the top of your mast?

      @solitudeandsailing  2 года назад +1

      Nothing fancy, I basically tapped it on. My oldest son is a US Marine so I had to put something on their to honor his troop.
