I thought this was going to be about the heist of a V2 by the Polish underground and flown to the UK in an RAF Dakota. A much more exciting and militarily relevant story. But I'm Canadian, so happy to hear this one.
And now the V2 is gone and lost forever, whilst your country did nothing with it. Not even in a bloody museum. This is exactly why the UK and the USA did not want to waste a V2 by giving it to the Canadians, but oh no you lot of course thought you knew better.
@@imouse3246 - If idiot Diefenbaker did not cancel the CF-105 ... the technological, science, rocket and space hardware world would be a very, very different place now. The US should be glad it was cancelled, as NASA literally would have had no one to hire to design and build the Saturn or Apollo systems. Most of those design teams came directly from the CF-105.
Simon: I never heard this one. Makes perfectly good sense however: The British hoarding the V2's for themselves, and Canadians employing booze in a plot to steal one. Great Show! It made me think ... you should do 'Sir William Stephenson' (The man called Intrepid), and all the secret operations that happened at Camp-X.

I live in Picton, that army base wasn't bulldozed after the war, it's still there. Most of the old buildings are privately rented now, and the air strip is still in use! There are a few unopened buildings and remote corners where it could be.
From V-2 rocket to weather station Kurt. Very interesting how important these machines were and then how non relevant they became once “peace” was established. (Cold War wasn’t peaceful just different players and objectives, well maybe)
Simon Canadian's (at least in the Canadian Armed Forces) pronounce lieutenant the same way you British say it "Left-tenant". Also great job I was very pleasantly surprised to learn this.
I found the Nazi weather station far more interesting than the V2 story. Wish you could do a video with more follow up on that one and what Canada did and didn't know about it and what the fall-out was.

@Today I Found Out I would recommend a show on the Canadian Avro Arrow - the CF105. Its story of a Canadian team that at that moment in the 50's was building the fastest most advanced military jet in the world using the Iroquois engine, both designs a decade ahead of their time, a Prime Minister named John Diefenbaker (pronounced Deef-en-baker ... like weed and a bakery cook) that was manipulated by Truman ... in a fishing boat ... so Diefenbaker cancelled it and had the plans and planes literally destroyed. The team went to NASA to find work and built the Saturn and Apollo systems. Today, Canada would have been a different power, militarily or regarding space technology ... and the NASA moon landings may not have happened as they did. Theres a Movie about it with Dan Aykroyd staring. Canadians are still pissed about it.
Just a sidenote tidbit, when i visited the deutches museum on munchen, there is a spiraling staircase within the main showroom, inside which resides a full V2 rocket, cool stuff. You can search for it on Google too.

It's also always worth remembering that the technological marvels from the good guys were so much more successful. As is evident from various memorials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

That sounds like one of Farley Mowats wonderful fiction stories. He was was quoted as saying; “I took some pride in having it known that I never let facts get in the way of a good story.” He most certainly would have destroyed the lives and careers of those friendly soldiers he got drunk.
Shows that the Allies couldn't even trust each other! Quite a brilliant coup for the Canadians, and a shame that, after all their 'hard work', the V2 was just dumped/destroyed.
Very much a shame. Tis a prime example of our rocket program as a whole: very intriguing and with high potential, but ineptness keeps causing things to be wasted.
Ally is a temporary situation when there is a common goal. Up until WWII the British and American navies were built with the theory that they would be fighting against each other, not side by side.
Often forgotten in much is Canada. Then again, that is one of our advantages. We are inconspicuous. No one sees us coming or going. We unremarkable and nondescript, fitting in pretty well anywhere without any reason to question our presence.
Nord VPN is based in Panama? Honestly, I don't know much about Panama. Despite that, learning that the company is based there, I find them less trustworthy than before. But I'm not a potential customer anyway. I just found the mention of Panama as interesting. As though it was obvious why that would be beneficial.
Different story. The one from Mark is about covert Polish resistance stealing one during the war from the Austrian factory for the British. This one deal the silly story about the Canadians stealing one after the war thumbing their nose against the British, Americans and USSR occupational force in order to get German technology for their Canadian rocket research.
