Failed Triumph TR4 Transmission - What Went Wrong?

This week we remove the Laycock de Normanville A-Type Overdrive unit from the Triumph TR4 gearbox housing to investigate the seal between. We find plenty of evidence of leaks. Most notably we find a warped adapter plate. Can it be fixed?
We have been putting this project off for a while: fixing a leaking transmission seal. In the next few episodes, we will be going though the entire process of removing the gearbox from the Triumph TR4, investigating what went wrong, and fixing the problem for good.

I'd say that you were a bit too sparing with the Form-a-gasket. Nice to see you guys post again!

The best sealer I've used is called "The Right Stuff" available at your favorite AP Store. Racers use it. Last Trans rebuild I did is staying very dry. (they all leak some but mine is only wet and very few drops of the cardboard under the car.)
It's expensive but so is your time if you have to pull the transmission again.

FYI - Elin Yakov (Rusty Beauties) always uses the aviation Permatex on his transmission/overdrive rebuilds

Which lapping technique did you use, Cosman or Charlesworth ? Great solution

Use well seal gasket sealer it’s does a excellent job

Before you reassemble check the solenoid cross shaft seals, mine leak badly.
