      I imagine the top-speed is not as high as others that have been on the track and would distract you from the real advantage which is higher speeds through corners, and for same reason it won't break as much driving into the corners.

    For those complaining about the car sounds, remeber that this is the beginning of something new and exciting.
    You should remember that the four stroke engine had it's first experiments made in 1862 and they are still evolving dramatically todays, what you are beholding here is the birth of a new generation of sports cars. One day they will sound better, perform even better than this and run alot longer and we wont look back in the same way we don't look back to Benz Patent-Motorwagen
    I'm an engineer and a huge petrolhead but NIO made me excited towards electric vehicles again in a way Tesla didn't.

    • @cartrips9263
      @cartrips9263 7 лет назад +17

      If youre an engineer, you know they will never sound much different. Unless you do artificial sound generation (like some abominations use already). I rather listen to this (or turn my music louder (if it doesnt suck my battery dry - I like 2 KW stereos)) than listen to some computer generated crap that tries to sound like a V8 or V12.

    • @Lucas-ck1po
      @Lucas-ck1po 7 лет назад +5

      Hi CarTrips, i'm aware of that and i agree with you...
      Perhaps we get better sounds from more powerful motors in the future since the trend is to get more capable power sources such as batteries. More powerful motors generate higher magnectic inductance sounds. I bet some gearheads will get some crazy performance shop built cars sounding like 747's in highways and doing illegal racing, exploding tyres... Believe me, there are ways to get more sound outa them, not sure it will be a pleasing sound but it can and will get louder at some point ;)

    • @cartrips9263
      @cartrips9263 7 лет назад +3

      Yes, higher RPMs, different frequency, whatever. We know that already from transmissions, turbos and superchargers. They never sound much different. There will never be such a huge range of different sounds than we have on conventional cars, which then can also be modified by changing exhaust designs or even something as simple as a different air filter or a BOV. Those all have their important function. A speaker connected to a sound generator does not.
      And you can make tires explode on any Tesla already, if you disable its traction/launch control.

    • @Lucas-ck1po
      @Lucas-ck1po 7 лет назад +7

      Well, grab a beer and wait for this bright future to arrive *OR* lets enjoy going out doing some silly nonsense with our dying combustion dinossaurs while we still have them... we will be the last generations to have true enthusiasm and going to jail for that

    A while back, I produced a documentary about electric cars. Being a lifelong Shelby and Harley guy, at first I was skeptical about the outcome. I was totally blown away by the technology, etc. and in fact, am now a hardcore fan of electric cars. The NIO EP9 performance in this video and the awesome e-Bikes at The Isle of Man race are hopefully indicative of great things to come.

      Hotter temperatures don't mean faster laps. In fact its the other way around, at least to a point. You will always be faster when the track temperature is 20 degrees than when the track temperature is 30 degrees. That's pretty basic knowledge. When you are getting close to 0 degrees, then it obviously changes.

    We have an eCar and its acceleration for normal daily driving is crazy, no waiting for RPMs to get into power band, just instant acceleration with almost zero noise. The frustration we see on the Porsche, Hellcat, Ferrari owners is worth the every penny of an eCar. But the most liberating aspect of an eCar is we never have to care or think about gas/oil prices ever again. Our home is solar so we charge for free and most charge stations are free and everywhere ... fast charge takes 20 minutes to full. Tesla are talking about making eCars with 1200-1700 equivalent HP and driving range in the order 1000mi. The Dino car days are numbered.

    • @krypton1260
      @krypton1260 7 лет назад +18

      Rob Ainscough There's no way you're generating enough electricity at home to charge an electric car for free if you use it daily, even if you had sunlight 24/7 shining on your panels angled perfectly at the sun and only used the electricity to charge your car.
      You'd need around 20 big panels to charge your car "for free", since the panels aren't cheap and they don't last forever. If you rely on batteries to store that energy, you'd need alot of them and they're expensive af. That "free" setup costs a lot of money and a lot of CO2 will be produced during the manufacturing of said panels and batteries.
      And looking at that 20min charge comment. You'd need a lot more than 20 panels. Something like 60-80 panels to produce that much wattage. Using batteries you'd have major issues getting that amperage out of them. I'm all for eCars/bikes, but I smell bs.

    • @robainscough
      @robainscough 7 лет назад +20

      Our house solar system consists of 21 X 300 Watt panels, we produce 4000-6000 watts hours continuous for about 8-12 hours a day (season pending and weather pending). Our EV consumes on a full charge from 10% state (5 hours on "normal" rate charge) uses about 30,000 watts over the 5 hours charge period. Our house is producing anywhere from worst case of 32,000 watts per day to best case of 72,000 watts per day. So average is 52,000 watts per day, more than enough to charge our EV (which BTW, we only need to charge every 2-3 days) with plenty left over for house AC, and more.

    This car has 4 electric motors which are installed with 4 wheels each. That means each wheel can separately control its rotation rate, making the car have the ability to pass the curve faster than traditional car. You can find out such phenomenon during some deep curve. No understeering, neither oversteering. That's why electric car (or Hybrid car) have more potential to break the records set by traditional fuel engine car. Sorry for my poor English, but that's the best I can do to explain.

      All peoples have been using good ideas from others' since the dawn of civilisation. With the complex intellectual property laws and its abuses today, Chinese companies have a very realistic expectation of industrial espionage. They have done this for so long, it will come a day when they are on the losing side of this dynamic. But you can bet they won't complain, rather will play along. Chinese companies abuse each other as much as foreign companies. Conduct of business over there will seem enigmatic to outsiders, even other Asian nations.

      To think that 6.11 was achieved over 30 years ago with a 2.5L engine and 6.45 is considered a lap record! WTF? I've done 6.13 (I think) in Gran Turismo in the Peugeot HDi FAP LeMans car detuned to 650PP and the idea of doing it in a real car is absolutely insane. The risk of flying off the track braking so hard or more likely not quite enough just shows you how fearless, yet focused these guys really are. Maybe Stefan, like Ayrton was a little too fearless? It reminds me of a documentary about a young troop of monkeys and when the most intelligent, fearless and daring one eventually pushed his luck too far and lost his grip jumping for a branch, breaking his back on the ground. Evolution punishes the bravest risk takers among us and rewards caution and moderation but unfortunately, that doesn't set unbroken records.

    Very impressive, but boring, soulless, and a bit dead. I admire it like I admire an Intel Xeon.
    For a no rules, price no object car the lap time is not that exceptional. It's 2 seconds (on a 400 second lap) off a decade old £140,000 Radical on real road tyres, and half a minute slower than the 35 year old Porsche 916, and 20 seconds slower than the low powered, regulation strangulated GT3 cars that run in the VLN (such as the BMW Z4). On slicks, the NIO is pretty much a time attack/hillclimb car. After the track modifications over the winter (especially at Flugplatz) the ring is faster this year than it has been for a long time, the NIO is one of the first to take advantage of this.
    Even if it did a 5 minute lap, to me it's about the feels, the butterflies in the stomach, the smells, the sounds, I haven't driven one but the NIO, and most other EV cars seem to produce less of these. A Boeing 737 is 5 times faster than a gearbox Kart, but I know which one is more exciting...
    I applaud the "progress" and look forward to more EV everyday road cars, but I wish they would hurry up and come up with an environmentally acceptable combustible fuel! Give me a fire breathing featherweight, give me a gear stick, downshifts and overun, give me smells, give me feels, give me ear splittingly loud intoxicating noises!

      Omeed Alikhanizadeh Yes I'm sure the same types who drove the old Bugatti's and Alpha's said the same thing about hand cranks, hand adjusted spark advance, hand operated oil transfer pumps, choke, fuel primer, required mechanic in the passenger seat, cable brakes, wood spoke wheels, straight cut gears, back fire valves, 10 and 14L engines, open bottom engines that just drained oil down onto the ground and suspension system, springs made out of straight pieces of metal and open wind screens. Gimmie muh feels of oil and smoke in my face, the smell of BO from my mechanic, and risk of breaking a bone on every start!
      And I'm sure the horse racers before them said similar things about literal horse shit. Gimmie muh horse shit covered streets!!!

      +Omeed Alikhanizadeh How can you say that when you haven't even driven the car? You see the tangible aren't what makes cars fun but the intangible, that is its personality. Yes, sounds and smells are one of it but it can get boring once you have driven the car over and over again. The only reason sounds and smells are pleasing is because of the human brain, without it, they are nothing special. Nevertheless, I still love cars that have a rear-wheel drive transmission with a naturally-aspirated V8, V10, or V12 engine.
