That recall me an AU i seen where Shoyo was Tenma’s little brother and i can easily see this scene in this kind of context. As because Shoyo doesn’t fit the requirements to become a pro volley-ball player from the view of his father (let’s imagine he’s a coach), only Tenma was coached by him, meaning Shoyo was neglected by his father. And his mother who felt very bad for him tried to reason him, leading to the numerous arguments between his parents. Him being bullied for height and his brad grades would become the final trigger for Shoyo to try ending his own life. I can easily see Shoyo somehow related to Tenma in this AU, leading him to lose all his self-confidence because he will never be enough to his father and in a way to Tenma despite all his efforts.
