I know in some places the getaway driver would be considered an accessory, and in some states, if your accessory is killed in the commission of a crime you get charged with their murder as well. They probably don’t have enough officers to send more than one for every traffic violation. The officers are probably told to only request backup when absolutely necessary. This is a result of the anti-police, defund-the-police movements in which even city officials side with criminals against the police and officers are quitting in record numbers.

Quit having officers ride alone. I understand that it's a way to save money, but ANY traffic stop is a potential life and death situation for an officer. This officer should've called for backup as soon as the driver started acting funny with the officers requests.
Most Cities are 1 Cop per car.
We don’t have enough officers to ride 2 to a car. And the service areas and call loads are too high to pair officers up

@@JQT4489 There are plenty of officers to ride 2 per car, except a few small towns. The trick is to investigate actual crimes instead of trying to speed trap a bunch of locations in the city. Nearly every call needs at least 2 officers for safety anyway.

I had to step through it, but it appears it was the passenger that shot at him, and right across the face of the driver. Even though the driver seemed like he had thug intentions and affiliations, I kind of feel sorry for him. He should have gotten out of the car. I am not sure though in NM, would he be charged with attempted murder if the passenger shoots at the officer? I know in some places the getaway driver would be considered an accessory, and in some states, if your accessory is killed in the commission of a crime you get charged with their murder as well. I don't know if that would apply in this case if the driver had gotten out.

They probably don’t have enough officers to send more than one for every traffic violation. The officers are probably told to only request backup when absolutely necessary. This is a result of the anti-police, defund-the-police movements in which even city officials side with criminals against the police and officers are quitting in record numbers.
