I find her humble. She’s trying her best not to show off her wealth. There’s no way you can hide it when you’re wealthy. But when you boast and show off, your arrogant language becomes your best enemy. It’s tricky to bring a balance in nature and practice simplicity while handling your relationships and friendships when you are wealthy for generations and hence have a class but at the same time you have to keep proving to people that you belong to their crowd or team! Growing up, I faced the similar problems when my friends found out that I was coming from upper middle class, as you have to invite your friends over sometimes for night cap or sleep overs or just play dates or group studies. But then they always treat you differently. I was so tired of every discussion ending with the sentences like “tu toh matt hi bol. Tujhe kya problem ho sakti hai life mein.” Toh I want to tell all of those people who have misinformations that rich people don’t have problems, I have lost people in suicide due to clinical depression. Done of my family members are/were on therapies for years. When we have financial loss, it would be so freaking huge that you lose everything in a day. Life is equally hard for all the class and sections of the society, the problems just would have a different face, that’s all! When you cry in Mercedes, you don’t shed pearls but water contains of deep frustration and helplessness only! People can’t just see them through the tinted windshields of your fancy car that wouldn’t dance for you and entertain when you’re sad or heartbroken!
It is ignorance about the society. But you find a need to connect with friends. So you try to underplay your maternal wealth. Like all humans you do have problems but not because of possessing wealth.
Decades ago I met a very nice Marwadi man in twneties of my age then at Delhi Railway station and became friends for the day. We had ample time waiting for the train so he took me to connaught place in a taxi to the most expensive restaurant and treated well casually. Within no time he spent a fortune on various luxury eatbles and gifts for both of us in the adjoining market area. Never met again...Nice memory...
My marwari friend invited us five friends to watch our favorite movie , which was no longer running anywhere else in a huge single screen theatre, the only one in our city. The show was running just for us! Marwaris are rich!
