    Them days, no internet, no nothing
    Christmas was about movies
    I was 7 years old, was waiting for this movie all week because it was on the bbc advert regularly
    It started at 6pm
    What a day
    I think only fools and horses was on before or after batman

      Now its all repeats of the same films on multiple freeviews channels, which to me takes awah all the excitement and charm away. When films were worth staying in to watch, like a family occasion until it was shown later in the year. I wish I had recorded that Miami Twice special of Fools and Horses, I never got into until a few years later. Thats on ep I would love to get hold of uncut, sadly every version you watch (even when shown on UKGold) is cut to pieces.

    Always loved tv idents like this, the ones that are specific to a certain franchise/ series. I remember being a kid watching this at the exact time on Christmas Day and it set my excitement for watching the film, I was like “The bat symbol!”. You know when you see something and it gets your adrenaline going and you think you’ll probably never see it again? RUclips, I salute you.

    This movie changed my life.
    Superman was my favourite hero until i first saw this movie on Christmas day.
    I think the day before channel 4 showed the 1966 Adam West Batman movie. I enjoyed that, but this movie blew my mind.
    Batman has been my favourite movie and my favourite hero ever since.

    I bet it was a major big deal to get this so soon on terrestrial tv after its cinema debut!
    Remember, this was a time when it would be up to a year after its theatrical release before the film would be released on VHS, and then another year before it appeared on subscription tv, and then ANOTHER year before it appeared on terrestrial (if you were lucky).

    • @KenzieRetro

      Yeah it was normally a 3 year period before it premiered on network tv.
      This was huge as we only waited 2 years since the film was released in 1989

    Wow! The Christmas of '89 I have honestly been wishing for someone to upload this since that Christmas because of two life important moments. This Christmas was after my dad had past away in the previous year when I was 6 and my mum and grandparents wanted me to have a good christmas so really went full on for the lush traditions and doing buffets with treats and a long sort out of exactly what I'd like for Christmas, this was the movie I watched followed by Coming to America that came on after and I remember so vivid the sparkle and magic of Christmas back again that year because of the sadness of the previous. This being the first time of seeing Batman I instantly was a fan. It was the first Christmas that my grandad who wasnt into Christmas much due to his very hard upbringing sat and watched with interest and that is a loving memory of everyone that year enjoy the company and happiness in Christmas together.
    Thank you for giving back this wonderful memory and the excitement that Batman was going to be on that evening and I was allowed to watch and stay up for the movies showing that night and had a good childhood Christmas memory after dad passing away.
    Miss you and love you Dad

    This was broadcast the year I was born - my dad taped it and caught this exact little schedule reset before the announcer appeared with the channel indent - this was burned into my memory from when I was probably 6 or even 5. Wild seeing it again.

    I remember this Christmas day very well. I actually got a load of Batman toys such as the Batcave and Batmobile. But yeah like others have said in the comments, the film was quite heavily edited. Quite an early time of day to show a 15 certificate film.

      Stefano Pavone They did show movies like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade before the watershed time on BBC One.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 3 года назад

      @Stefano Pavone Ive got the original ITV broadcast of Raiders of the Lost Ark taped (on Betamax lol) on Xmas.Day 1984. They did cut the bastard word from Marion before Beloq closes the tomb door, but to be honest I havent noticed (comparing with the DVD version I have) anything different with regards to violence on that particular broadcast. The good thing about those early showings of films is that the end titles werent speeded up like they do now.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 3 года назад

      @Stefano Pavone I was going through some old tapes a few weeks ago and one was a recording on ITV of a James Bond film, I think shown in about 2001 when they were showing a season of them. Can't remember which Bond film it was (could've been a Moore Bond) and I noticed they completely cut the whole of the end credits after the end scene, no music or anything just a fade out and the end studio logo. Never seen that before, and kinda stupid really as one of the main enjoyments of a Bond film is listening to the theme song. Think it might've been Moonraker.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 3 года назад

      @Stefano Pavone Yeah I had that broadcast on tape of Ghostbusters 2 where they edited all the emd credits out, is just fades out at the wide shot of Manhattan and then goes to the Columbia Pictures logo. I also remember them doing the same with Return to Oz in the early 90s when it was shown on ITV at Easter time (I still have the recording I think) where they trim rest of the music. Only when I watched the DVD version recently that I noticed the credits went on for quite awhile.

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure the scene with the joker frying the guy in the boardroom was heavily edited (I think their one-on-one after everyone else has left was cut completely), and the swearing was dubbed over with softer language - I particularly remember Eckhart saying "I say, you're full of *crap* Knox"

    • @mikeshirleyforever
      @mikeshirleyforever 5 лет назад +1

      I remember the fight scene with Batman and the henchman with the swords being edited. I thought it was a tribute to Raiders at the time as the henchman does his sword wielding and then Batman just kicks him down. 😁

      @@vikingfortiesfaeroes That scene absolutely frightened me to death when i first saw it!
      Though in my case, pretty sure it was late 90s on either 4 or channel 5. I would've been 1 year old when this particular premiere took place haha.

    • @MysteryManfrom79

      It was 12. It was only 15 on VHS because though the 12 was introduced in 89 it wasn't used on videos until 1994. So any 12s in cinema became 15 on video in this period

      @@IronsWorks1990 Yes, was never resubmitted post-1994 after the 12 was introduced on video. It still has a valid 12 for theatrical exhibition though as it has never been resubmitted since 1989, so still holds it.

    This was a BIG deal. Shame the film was cut, but it was shown quite early. I remember it like yesterday and I just loved that logo from the BBC, great effort from their graphics team.

    • @mikeshirleyforever
      @mikeshirleyforever 2 года назад +1

      @@IronsWorks1990 The broadcast was at 6pm so some scenes were edited out where Jack saying 'Jesus!' when Batman holds him up at Axis Chemicals and the extended 'conversation' where The Joker talks to the smoking Rotelli corpse. I think those were the only edited scenes but it was quite a dark film at the time and I was surprised more wasn't edited.
