(from Shawn) Okay, first I am obviously way behind on the videos. That was the best one yet! I have a feeling that a cold weather wet suit will be available in the future. You may also consider a powerful magnet which can be dragged on the bottom with a rope for anything metal that falls into the water in the future. Goes to show how quickly a situation can become a struggle for survival. Thanks for sharing and stay safe!
Oh you are so very busy that we don't expect you to be completely up to date - but that's the great thing about this - you can always come back anytime you wish. We have wet suits but they weren't with us at the time (they are now). So, good advice - and another great idea is to have a powerful magnet - that is sooo smart!! It might be fun to throw that in just for fun too. Yes, a situation really can shift plans in about one minute and one bad decision can put us in real trouble. We just didn't know what we would do - get the truck back when the ice froze in the winter? Ugh... these things are all adding to our 'not-to-do' list! Thank you for watching Shawn, and big hugs for Janice
Oh we definitely felt some anxiety as there just didn't seem to be any way out of it all - - thank goodness he finally just took the plunge... I sure feel for people who have had shipwrecks in the cold waters... it must be sooo awful for them.
Oh boy... that days was a rough one. Thankfully Ryan was able to recover that lost piece and he fixed it all up. We can look back and laugh even more now. We laugh a lot together. That's what life is about and if we can't laugh at ourselves, others will... Thank you so much for watching! 💚
Thank you so much for watching! That was a tough day alright - looking back Ryan can laugh too and he does 💚Not quite as much on the day of, though... 😂
Things are better now! It was a bit of predicament - we just weren't 100% sure how it would all turn it... Would we had to drive out in the winter on the frozen lake?!! Yikes ❄
Not as cold as we did! That was oh so painfully cold and reading this comment made me shiver just thinking about it. Thanks so much for watching and enjoy the warmth down there! -Ryan.
Awesome team work guys ! Been there done that but not in that cold of water, Brrrr.... I have used a plastic taboggan to float under the motor to catch parts you drop, it work i dont swim lol,
😂 Oooh my goodness!! I did too, when I watched the footage again... That day was a tough one but looking back at it was soooo much funnier after the fact for sure.
Spare parts are always a good idea, and wetsuits are a definite must if we are to ever get under this water again, yes. Brrrr- it was soooo cold!! Thank you for your support. -Ryan.
I'm at 15:30 in the video. As soon as the lake broke up where I grew up I would do a quick polar swim. Sometimes the ice was shifting a little further out. There used to be a couple other lake folks that try to be the first in. You have to go pretty quick. When you come out of the water you are kind of numb. I realize you're already beyond diving for pearls and on to your next event! I'm still trying to catch up from when you started this new phase of your lives. You had just bought the island and I'm a couple videos into it. I've got a long ways to go! 😊
I love that you've started from the beginning... that way you'll really be getting a sense of this whole journey! We've nicknamed our community: 'Holmies' and we welcome you in!! 💚
I advise you to get: a magnet on a stick (yes it's real), a wet suit, suba gear and face mask, a friend on the mainland with a boat, and radio gear to make contact with emergency services an mechanics.
Yes! We actually have scuba gear now (since losing the drive sleeve adapter) and we are putting together a safety protocol that includes helpful phone numbers and so forth. We also have phone service via satellite so no need for radio (thank goodness). I suppose radio would be a good idea for a backup method of calling for help though... Thanks so much for the great suggestions! -Ryan
I know the struggle was real, but omg, such a pair the 2 of you are. As a couple, you had me laughing out loud. Such coaching 😂 and encouraging 😅 each other. Good job. 1st timer watching, I will return. 😂
Hello! Thank you for watching our channel! Yes, the struggle was real! 😆 🤣 we really just have to laugh when things get scary or hard... After all is said and done, it seems we do a lot of laughing. We love that you've joined our journey! 💚

@@mywildholm I was just joking with you, Ryan. Even at 80 years of age I'm still learning new things. Just last month I learned that if you steam eggs instead of boiling them they peel a lot faster and easier. Life is a learning process and you're doing just fine! That's why I just subscribed to your channel.
Your comment actually made us both laugh. You are quick witted and we appreciate your sense of humour. It sounds like you're doing well and we love that you're watching our journey 💚
Thank you for your kind words. We do fail sometimes but we really try as we realize we are a team and we need each other to make it all work. We appreciate your comments 💚
Thank you I have been laughing so much up down up down on that ladder and your sat there saying about your thin jacket 😂😊😂🤣😂🤣 That poor guy 😂🤣😂🤣hope his big toe hasn’t gone numb and dropped off 😮. He needs a snorkel and mask. Right show him how it’s done, no more talking just do it . Wow yer hubby got it well done well you hit plenty of trees to burn do your fire will keep you warm nice hot drinks hot water bottles and bed well done you two 🙏🙏
Hey there!! Thank you so much for watching! That one was actually a bit of a gong show - poor guy was so cold. I really wanted to let him be the one to find it because he'd never forgive himself if I did.... (just teasing). It was sooooo cold! We have actually talked about taking those polar dips for blood flow - you're right, it is supposed to be a really good thing to do. 💚
Hey there! Welcome to our channel! Thank you so much for your comment! Icy water dip that day for sure!! We got all warm and cozy in the cabin when we got back in 😊

Hey there!! Your comment just made my day! Thank you for your understanding of who we are and your support of our channel. Unbelievably, Ryan is being discharged today. He will be staying in a hotel to further recuperate on a trial basis just to see how he does. He'll still be closer to the hospital if anything goes wrong, which we don't expect. He will arrive by helicopter back on our island on Monday! We will be having our Livestream tonight as per usual and he may try to get on to say hello to everyone. Thank you again for watching 💚
Oh my goodness, I’m laughing and giggling, but it couldn’t have been funny for him. That cold water could be absolutely brutal. I grew up on Lake Manitoba and I can tell you I can empathize with how that poor man was feeling.
It was pretty cold - but it's actually kind of healthy for people. We are thinking of doing hydrotherapy type dips in the cooooold ocean this winter. It's so good for circulation and apparently is a really good thing to try to get used to. ❄
😆 🤣 The funny thing is that we both have wetsuits but we didn't have them at the island. We've learned our lesson and agree that this is a 'must-have' on our island 🏝
OMGOSH! Well done! That was brutal and you both showed your strength and bravery against that frigid water. Need water gear! My dad and I lost a cotter pin out on the lake. Down, down probably 35-40 feet. It was a long way home.
Why not just rig up some kind of a net on the end of the camera light/locator tool? This is killin me...Or just tell your wife to give it a shot...Lol I'll keep watching to see what happens. Oh good, you have a net...Yes! The net!...Hey! Atta boy and with NO NET! Lol, have a great life, I just found you guys. Best of luck.
Welcome to our channel! We really have had our share of mishaps for sure... we do find a way through them though, so we take comfort in that. 😆 🤣 Thank you for watching and being a support to our channel 💚
Poor Ryan's family jewels, I can feel his pain. And Melodi laughs, my other half would do the same lol. So entertaining. As nasty as it sounds, one of you should have pin dropped in. I feel for you both, the cold is so painful.
😆 Ohhh it was pretty cold for him alright... we both laughed like crazy 🤪 cold water is actually really healthy for helping with inflammation in the body. Might have to try it again 🤔
Curious, but was there something wrong with the prop? Why did you take it off? There are underwater cameras available (Aqua-Vu, Marcum). Hypothermia will kill you.
Yes, we passed through some gravel in a shallow bay and it bent the prop - big time. I had to take it off and hammer it all back straight. So nice of you to comment... thanks for watching! -Ryan
It was a bit of a scene 😆 I love the bugnet hat... my sister told us about them (on their visit to the island) we looked them up and got them off Amazon
Hey there!! Welcome to our channel - we are so glad you are following our journey! We love hearing from new subscribers and invite you to stay around for lots more fun just ahead!
Could do, but I think a depth sounder located at the bow with a display that I can hook into the console would be better for me as it wouldn't require me stepping away from the helm. Good idea though... it is always important to know when the bottom is coming up! -Ryan
No unfortunately, the drive sleeve is plastic. Thankfully we managed to retrieve it! That was sooooo coooold 😰 and Melodi was sure brave! Thank you for watching! -Ryan.
You couldn't be more right. I feel like he needs to have a stock pile of these types of parts on hand too. We don't ever want to be in this position again. Thank you for watching! 💚
I have to say Ryan, I agreed with your wife...she was right, ya just gotta get it over with...don't prolong the water torture. I know, easy for me to say, right?😂
Thank you for watching! It wasn't the barge that was the problem, it was the actual motor. We don't have phone service - and the nearest power pole is 1 1/2 hours away. This is truly in the wilderness...
The water was nearly freezing as the ice was just off the lake days prior. I am sure it was in the 40's. I never was so cold in my entire life. It was super painful! -Ryan
I thought all Alaskans were related to the polarbear and cold water doesn't bother youins. Besides we all know that women can take cold over heat any time
I am loving your videos ❤️ I have gone back and watched from your beginning!! Well done you two❤️ Your living the life I dream about. Can't wait to catch up to real time. Thanks for your time and effort in letting me enjoy your life❤️🙏
Thank you so much my friend 🧡 We learned our lesson the hard way and hopefully will be better prepared if there is a next time. Good advice! Thank you!
I'm glad I found your videos. I'm a 62 yr old woman in Oklahoma of the lower 48. And in these rough times it's a breath of fresh air to watch you two and your sweet dog interact and live your lives. Im happy for you and pray only the best for you. I watched about the wild fires last yr I think it was, I just hate the devastation of our wild lands here and there. God Bless you all and stay safe.
We are so happy you've found us! Your kind comments and support are a wonderful gift to us. We are grateful every day to be building out this amazing property. Some days are easier than others but honestly, there isn't one day where we don't thank God for this opportunity. We have so much more to come - onward and upward 💚
That water was heart-stopping cold. Words cannot describe the bone-chilling cold... it was truly shocking. If I would have just jumped in, it would have been a very different episode... Thanks so much for watching! -Ryan
Added to the list: scuba suit and face mask! So glad you got it~

And goggles x 2!! And flippers. Omg that looked so cold, I would have been crying. Could have gone South quickly. Glad you are both okay.
Thank you! We are happy the ordeal is over, and there might have been a little crying too 😆 🤣, if truth be told... -Ryan
Snort, I was thinking a thermal wet suit as well if you couldn’t get the whole scuba gear set up. Maybe a powerful underwater lamp as well.
Yes, more great ideas! You've sure got lots of them! Thank you for watching!

Great premiere... Dang that water looked cold. ❤❤
It really WAS!!
I haven't laughed that hard in years. You guys are amazingly entertaining. Thanks you.
Thank you so much for watching! That was a tough day alright - looking back Ryan can laugh too and he does 💚Not quite as much on the day of, though... 😂
The quote of the video had to be "no more encouragement honey". My goodness your face told the story of the cold Ryan!!!
😂😂 I do admit I was getting a little tired of the whole production... Tee hee
How's she goin'? What a time that was. Glad you got the sleeve. Congrats!! No go get warm and take care!!!

One more thing that might help is a long handle litter grabber. With your track record it will definitely come in handy😂😂😂
That's hilarious! I actually have one of those from all of my spine surgeries... we still need it for regular life too 😆 🤣 Thank you for watching! 💚

I’m holding my breath with you both. Praising for fortitude and perseverance ❤❤❤
Awww... Precious Anne!! Thank you 💚
Burrrr 🥶🥶 Awesome you found the prop!
Ohhhh yes!!! Brrrr ❄ is the perfect way to describe that one...
Oh poor Ryan! I could feel the pain! You too!! You both were so calm. I would be panicking lol. Glad you finally got that part!!
Thank you so much! 💚 It was a lesson for us - water proof flashlight, goggles and wetsuits!

Thank you Big Jim! It was worrisome and a long time was spent contemplating (as you could tell)... Thank you for watching 💚
Omg you guys, ❤❤😘😘
😂 It was a bit dicey for sure 🙏
I am just so glad that you guys got the piece and are ok!! 🙏🏻@@mywildholm

Lol glad you got it and are safe!
❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
Lol! This is entertaining. 😂😂😂
That's was quite the day! You never know what'll happen out here. Every day is a new adventure 😆 🤣
Butter finger 👉 😂
Guilty! ... and I sure paid for it too! Thanks for watching. -Ryan
Tough times eh? Glad you made it through. Where did you get your bugnet hat?
It was a bit of a scene 😆 I love the bugnet hat... my sister told us about them (on their visit to the island) we looked them up and got them off Amazon
Suggest that you might want to secure anything over water. You had the camera and flashlight over the side of the barge without a safety rope.
That sounds like good advice. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for watching! -Ryan
A magnet would work!
Hey there!! Welcome to our channel - we are so glad you are following our journey! We love hearing from new subscribers and invite you to stay around for lots more fun just ahead!
Actually, the drive sleeve was nylon, so no ferric content... gone are the days when things were built to last... we appreciate your comment! - Ryan
If it was my barge I’d see if you can get a steel one, just because of the usage and reliability factor.
That's actually definitely something to consider. Thank you for watching!
Can you geta weight ona rope so you can always check the depth?
Could do, but I think a depth sounder located at the bow with a display that I can hook into the console would be better for me as it wouldn't require me stepping away from the helm. Good idea though... it is always important to know when the bottom is coming up! -Ryan
Nice
Thank you so much 💚
He's a Tough Canadian, I saw his toe,
Oh boy... that was brutal! He is a tough Canadian though 🇨🇦 🍁
What island are yall on..My mom lives on Pender Island
Oh yes, that's a lovely island on the ocean. We are on a lake about 12 hours north.
A good name for your island might be where the heck are we island think of that
Would a magnet work?
No unfortunately, the drive sleeve is plastic. Thankfully we managed to retrieve it! That was sooooo coooold 😰 and Melodi was sure brave! Thank you for watching! -Ryan.
Go Melody your right, you had twins
😆 🤣 oh boyyy!! It was cold!! 🥶
I'd say these are the type of parts I'd have spares of.
You couldn't be more right. I feel like he needs to have a stock pile of these types of parts on hand too. We don't ever want to be in this position again. Thank you for watching! 💚
You need a wet suit, you could pick crabs, and oysters, and mussels
If we were on the ocean, that would be an awesome plan! I am actually an experienced diver and I still have most of my dive gear... somewhere. -Ryan
Oh honey painful😂😂😂😂😂
😆 🤣 Tee hee... I mean... Hey welcone to our channel. Thank you for joining us 💚
I have to say Ryan, I agreed with your wife...she was right, ya just gotta get it over with...don't prolong the water torture. I know, easy for me to say, right?😂
😆 🤣 Ohhh boy and torture it was! Should have just taken the plunge...still freeze up just thinking of it ❄️ Thank you for watching!
If. You had a magnet it would have been easy
Hello there! Apparently the piece was heavy plastic and not metal 💚
survival foil blankts sholuld be on every boat and in every vechocle and in camp
Sound advice. -Ryan
Hilarious!
That was a tough day - it was great to get back to the cabin to get all cozy and warm 😀
Make that one word where the heck are we put it all together
🤣 That's a good one and yes, definitely out in the wild! 🤔
Call somebody on your phone to bring another barge and tow that one back and have it repaired
Thank you for watching! It wasn't the barge that was the problem, it was the actual motor. We don't have phone service - and the nearest power pole is 1 1/2 hours away. This is truly in the wilderness...
55 degree water is only max time in is 5 min
The water was nearly freezing as the ice was just off the lake days prior. I am sure it was in the 40's. I never was so cold in my entire life. It was super painful! -Ryan
Note: must get a wetsuit, flippers, mask and a waterproof flashlight!🔦
🤣 You'll do just fine out here!! Thank you for watching 💚
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤안녕하세요
Thank you for joining us on our adventure! 💚
Why not get your fishing neet to get it
It worked out!! Yay! 😃
15 to 45 min
I thought all Alaskans were related to the polarbear and cold water doesn't bother youins. Besides we all know that women can take cold over heat any time
You may be right, but we are Canadian 🇨🇦 so I can't answer to that specifically 😆 🤣
He's very dramatic 😂
Oh boy!! You don't want to be around him when he has a cold or flu either 😆 🤣
I am loving your videos ❤️
I have gone back and watched from your beginning!! Well done you two❤️ Your living the life I dream about. Can't wait to catch up to real time.
Thanks for your time and effort in letting me enjoy your life❤️🙏
We love that you are watching - thank you so much for joining us!
Ma'am why don't you go in.
😆 🤣 You might have missed the rest of the episode.
😂😂😅😂😂
Thank you for watching!
Think about investing in a wet suit.
We now have two wetsuits! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching 💚
I am so glad. God Bless.
Thank you so much my friend 🧡 We learned our lesson the hard way and hopefully will be better prepared if there is a next time. Good advice! Thank you!
Lol watching you torture yourself hurts me.
Awww... you are very sweet 💚 Thank you for watching!
You be better to just take the plunge
That water was heart-stopping cold. Words cannot describe the bone-chilling cold... it was truly shocking. If I would have just jumped in, it would have been a very different episode... Thanks so much for watching! -Ryan
😂😂😂
Thank you for watching! 💚
