Hi, I'm so far enjoyed your videos and I thank you for explaining everything that I've seen so far. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. I know that you're Freightliner is an automatic and I do know that the company does in fact offer manual trucks from what I know, so my question is did you choose to have the automatic or do you have an automatic restriction on your license and you didn't have a choice by no means judging or anything like that I'm looking for a company that will let me have a manual along that's better pay than what I'm getting right now

I asked for it, all the new trucks are coming in with autos and the students get trained on autos..so if you wanna be a trainer you gotta drive an auto.
I transfered to Smith transport from heartland, better pay nicer equipment

@truckingjourneys I can totally understand that, how often do you get to see the terminal? Also how long were you working for Smith Transportation before coming over to Heartland?
The company I work for is scared to lose me. They're scared to lose me because of a runner because I can do about 3,000 to 3500 miles a week. The reason why I'm leaving is because of the home time which I know Heartland Express does value that. I don't live anywhere I live in the truck so when I switch over when it's time for me to switch over I will be moving from truck to truck basically. The truck that I'm running right now is in Volvo and it's governed at 68. My company also knows that I'm not afraid to drive in bad weather in the worst conditions. they also know that I'm not afraid to throw chains on either. I had a friend work with them for Maybe about six months or so and she was out of the Portland terminal And that's probably the terminal that I'm going to be landing at because of the fact that I'm also based in Portland. They offered her a manual but she didn't take it

@Cassreinko heartland does not allow you to throw chains or drive in inclement weather without the express approval of the safety department.
They regularly issue weather shutdowns and enforce them.
At heartland the trucks are governed at 68 as well, with a outward only facing dashcam it does not record audio nor look at driver.
They never bothered me about the cameras at all.
I'd say I was getting through the terminals maybe once or twice a week on average and tried my hardest to park at a terminal whenever possible. Sometimes 3 times a week.
With Smith I worked here twice before heartland bought them out, it was a collective 2 years I think,
At Smith you'll get 65cpm if you do the highest paid (alternative weekly) otr fleet, but you'll do shorter runs with about 400-600 miles per load on average and right now you'll see about 2300-2750 miles per week at Smith or heartland respectively.
As Smith has a limited running area (East of i35) they do not issue tire chains bc there are no chains laws on our running areas, but Smith does allow you to run in rough weather as opposed to heartland.
Heartland has a minimum guarantee, Smith does not.
Smith has way better/nicer equipment tho

@@truckingjourneys what trucks do they run I know they have the Freightliner but I can't remember if they have the Volvo as well

    • @truckingjourneys
      @truckingjourneys  4 дня назад

@Cassreinko heartland does not run Volvos no. As a solo driver you'll probably end up in a Freightliner. As those are what they have speccd for solo otr.
The white trucks are solo sex and red trucks are team/trainer spec.
They run mostly freightliners and internationals, but they do have some of both specs in Kenworth variety.

    Do they hire recent grads?

    • @truckingjourneys

Yes and no, it's a complicated question. I'd advise calling heartland and speaking to a recruiter
