  • Baviaanskloof reserve in the Eastern Cape, day 2 of our overlanding road trip. Baviaanskloof is a World Heritage Site and is a combination of privately owned farms and a quite large nature reserve, only a fairly small part of which is accessible by the public.
    This section took us through the actual reserve, with some awesome mountain passes, river crossings and forests. Pretty much everything in one day. It's not actually that far, less than 100km, but takes a good 5 to 5 1/2 hours to traverse due to the rough roads, where a 4x4 is definitely recommended. In fact, a 4WD vehicle is a requirement when passing through the reserve.
    There are no shops, apart from the odd farm stall with the bare essentials, and it's still very much a cash based system, hardly anybody accepts card payments. But that's one of the quirks that makes it so special.

    Episode 2 of our Baviaanskloof trip, what an incredible place this is. It's not actually that far as the crow flies from large urban centres like PE and George, but all that seems so very distant as you hit the gravel and watch the tar disappearing in the rear view mirror.

    Planning on doing this in December. Which campsites would you recommend? Will be coming in from Patensie. Plan on spending 2 nights. Cool video.

      Hello Henk, we didn’t camp this trip so I can’t give any personal recommendations. But there are some very informative threads on the 4x4 Community Forum with up to date information. Could be worth checking that out. Sorry I can’t be more helpful ☺️ Here is the website though: www.4x4community.co.za/forum/

    Do you know what the clearance height is from your bullbar to the ground?

      I don't know, but I actually took it off because it was quite low.

    Everyone does it west to east? Obviously it can be done east to west?

    • @Kangela
      @Kangela  3 года назад

      Absolutely, we live in the Mossel Bay area so west to east made sense, but if you were coming from the PE side, east-west would be the more logical route.

      @@Kangela need to do it in a older model x trail. It is awd though. Had some concerns about ground clearance but after watching a few vids I think I'll be fine.

      @@reneconnan4322 Your Xtrail will be fine, I've owned one and done some off-road trips in the Kgalagadi dunes. It's an awesome car, and tough as nails.
