"True Syrah is an acquired taste. It might be difficult at first, but then you become addicted to it." Couldn't agree more, Syrah is one of my favorite grapes, it's like a spicy assault that turns into a warm hug for your mouth. Great showcase of the Rhône, one of my favorite regions for its huge variety of wine styles.
Very well done! I'm a huge fan of the Rhone, especially the North. The descriptors you can get from Northern Rhone Syrah, especially with age, are so unique and mesmerizing. Nothing quite like it.
Months ago you teased that you had some Gigondas content coming! Definitely worth the wait. Both the Soithern and Northern Rhone hold special spots in my heart. The south was instrumental in broadening my horizons when I was a new wine drinker. I found so much value there, and because of that, I was able to explore different terrors more easily than other regions. Villages like Lirac, Vinsobres, Vacqueyras were important, but Gigondas cemented the region for me. So much so that my wife and I visited, choosing to stay in Gigondas. It was a tremendous experience. Eventually I began exploring the Northern Rhone, but don’t know it quite as well yet (still never had a wine from Hermitage). Even without having tasted the best of the best, it’s still my favorite region for Syrah. Love that you talked so much about Cornas. Great content, as always.
Wowzaaas thanks so much. The Rhône is an incredible place and you mentioned some great Crus. The Northern Rhône is an enigma to many bc of prices and low quantities but Crozes Hermitage is a way to jump in. Good luck in hunting down some Hermitage. Tough year for our Spartans too…
Rhone is one region I have not been to yet. Looking forward to visiting it. I live both - Northern and Southern Rhone wines. And even though lately they have been climbing up in prices, I think they are still very much underrated. Thank you for this video and cheers 🥂
Thanks for stopping by… Côtes du Rhône is still one of the best deals in the world of wine IMO. I hope you both get their sooner rather than later, it’s an amazing place!
Discovered CDR wines back in late 70s Fantastic wines full of flavor not too tannic Always excellent quality to price ratio Favorite go to red Guigal Cote du Rhone and the white Cote du Rhones are very under appreciated
Recently, I did a few tastings on the Rhône valley amazing value for money. I did find myself leaning more towards the northern Syrah based wines, but a few of the Gigondas and CDP were very impressive.🥂
Earlier this year I tasted wine from the named village Plan de Dieu, part of Cotes-du-Rhone Villages and I hope to taste it again and to taste more of the named Villages. There are some wonderful affordable wines in there!
Loved the video, and great timing, yesterday afternoon had my very first cote de rhone red wine glass, it was really good, also last week I tried a Rose, leally good and refreshing
I love Rhone wines but why have I never heard of Cornas until now? I've been to Lyon many times and I don't think I've seen it or at the very least noticed it. Another new wine to check out thanks to you. And Fabien.
HELLO DR HORKEY THIS IS MY FAV WINE VIDEO BY FAR COTE DU RHONE WOW , ONE OF MY FAV WINES IN THE WORLD, PORTUGAL FANTASTIC ,BORDEAUXOFF THE CHART BUT COTE DU RHONE SO GOOD SO AFFORDABLE
Hi Matthew, i have the opportinity this week-end to buy the côté du Rhône 2018 from Montirius at my local wine shop for 20.5€/bottle. Did you taste it (maybe not same vintage) and if yes would you recomand it ? Kind regards from France Martial. PS: come to the Loire Valley there is so much to talk about too, especialy sweets white wines that can age for decades!
Should be good, fantastic producer and I’ve been to the Loire several times! I love it and there’s some Loire themed videos coming up: ruclips.net/video/PRLEIbHXIMU/видео.html
My favorite regions in France are Rhône, Loire Valley, Champagne Alsace, and Southwest. Bordeaux is overrated and Burgundy is overpriced. However, I’d take Italian wine over France but France has most of my favorite grapes. Why you gotta do this to me France. Start growing Chenin Blanc and Malbec Italy.

Glad you picked that up. True Northern Rhone Syrah (and those who emulate it) are simply extraordinary. Unique, delicious, and age-worthy
Such another great time we had 😊 happy I could bring you to visit these passionate producers and amazing appellation
It was a great trip. I only wish we had more time in the Northern Rhône
Very well done! I'm a huge fan of the Rhone, especially the North. The descriptors you can get from Northern Rhone Syrah, especially with age, are so unique and mesmerizing. Nothing quite like it.
You are spot on. The noses on Northern Rhône Syrahs are unlike anything else…

Love these types of videos! Especially when you include some natural wine makers! Really great
Thank you and glad you enjoyed. Us wine geeks like these small producers but they aren’t always so readily available worldwide
Great video. Always wonderful to meet the producers and get to understand their thoughts.
Thanks, it’s always fun to visit too
Cornas is my all time favorite. I have a bottle waiting for me for my 30th in 2 weeks!
Ohhhhh happy bday! Open and enjoy
That's great content! This is exactly what I'm after on RUclips. Kudos and can't wait for the follow up video.
Thanks!! You can find all videos like this on this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLFOBi7-hwwSuFN54rvExEvZr4Wk7JfaaP

Ohhhhh nice and you are correct on both accounts! I have a CdR blind tasting video coming up that you’ll love

That s the beauty of the Rhone, wines for all types of palates at all types of price points…

tonsss of value to be had there!
That Cornas looks like a thick syrup its so deep red-purple, gonna search for that one for sure. Thanks for the intro!
Thanks TB… the thing about Northern Rhone Syrah, it’s dark but not syrupy or massive.
Loved the video, and great timing, yesterday afternoon had my very first cote de rhone red wine glass, it was really good, also last week I tried a Rose, leally good and refreshing
Very nice, they offer great value for money (CdR)
Hah! Tasted the 2016 Montirius "Terrse des Aines" in June at the Caveau du Gigondas :)
Can only recommend ! Brought some bottles home of course...
Good taste! Yes it’s a fabulous wine indeed.
I love Rhone wines but why have I never heard of Cornas until now? I've been to Lyon many times and I don't think I've seen it or at the very least noticed it. Another new wine to check out thanks to you. And Fabien.
Niccceee. It’s a tiny, tiny AOC and while not as coveted as Côte Rôtie or Hermitage, it can still be stellar in its own right.
La Chapelle ??? Well done ! Rhone wines are simply amazing !!!
That’s right x 2!!!
Rhone is good for value! I just got some domaine chantpierre 2021 cdr for $12 and using it to cook/drink with our coq au vin!
Oooohhhh that sounds like a glorious evening

you guys are doing another great video ......... Rhone wines are good as value for money not those over price Bordeaux ...
Thank you! Wines from the Rhône can be very nicely priced indeed. There are good values to be had in Bordeaux too tho!

@@drmatthewhorkey looking forward to see what is comming, thanks for the superfast answer 👍.
Coteaux du Layon is my favorites Loire appellation 🥂

Hahahha there is some of each grape in Italy but I like if the country sticks to its local varieties in general heheheh. Nice selection of regions!
@@drmatthewhorkey Have you visited the Southwest of France like Cahors?
