Really depends, but some jobs are definitely slavery. Look at the garmet industry in Bangladesh, I'm glad I don't have to work in those working conditions 😓😓
So do that. I just do gardening, as little or as much as I choose to. Depends how I feel. Most days i'd rather be out hiking or running, enjoying my life. But I don't mind the gardening work, it's stress free and quite satisfying.
TIM!!!! My wife and I worked very hard and saved/invested. No kids by choice. The goal since we were married was early retirement and to get out of the rat race as soon as possible. Fortunately, things worked out and I retired when I was 47 and my wife at that time was 43. I am now 64 and have not worked since age 47. We have lived overseas and traveled overseas for the past 17 years! Next year we are going to Asia for a 5 year period to see how we like it. Death is permanent. We want to live and have adventures until the big day comes.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! It's always good to hear from people who had a plan, made it work, and got free! Blessings to you and your wife. Enjoy Asia!
Nice! Good Job retiring. I wanted to do the same, I'm 54 now, watching my passion of music and travel slip further away as I keep aging and slave literally at some crappy warehouse with unhealthy conditions and a toxic environment, all just because Warehouse slave labor jobs pay a couple - few dollars more than average wages you see on Indeed, unless I can break into Sales or Real Estate very soon! It's depressing. When I worked Resorts and just did it without thinking of money or the ways of the world, I felt soooo free and Alive. Good for You! Keep enjoying life! If you got any advice, please! I Greatly Appreciate it!
one thing you will find out living in asia is that asian people believe death is not permanent. they drive like mad there because they believe in re-incarnation. bless
Wow very nice I hope you have Jesus Christ in your life and that you have accepted him before death ever arrives so that you may enter paradise forever now that’s a great plan ✨👍🏼
We are waking up to realize killing ourselves for a 9-5p is not it!!! We are here on Earth to live, enjoy one another, nature…not be stressed with debt and working ourselves to death!! When I tell people that I’m getting out of this rat race, they be like how, why, you can’t, what about this, what about that! I just say watch.. I don’t have to play this societal crazy game
Well said! I worked hard in my 20's and 30's and always lived a mostly simple life. Now after a two year break from working a full time job, I am starting to look for seasonal/temp work. Early 40's, no debt, no spouse, no kids, paid off house that I am going to sell as soon as interest rates drop, and become mostly nomadic. I just want to remain free and travel and explore, and be in nature as much as possible.
@@beatricerights Normally I would agree with you on this, however I have lived in my townhouse for 17 years and I have no desire to ever have a townhouse again. I plan to get some land and build a small cabin, but HOA's are a deal-breaker for me. Definitely don't want to come back to my house.
I sold my paid off house and it relieved so much stress. To each their own but I dont plan to "own" another house personally. Think I can get a better return on my money to live. Couldnt imagine being tied to that little plot of land and money pit building. To think how I agonized over the choice of sell or keep lol.
I work a 9 to 5ish. Been in the same career for 18 years. Make good money. I’m burned out. I want a better life with less stress but can’t unplug from the matrix.
You CAN unplug from the matrix. Start stock piling savings, cut your expenses as low as possible and stack away cash. You can then quit your 9-5 and have the safety net to find something you enjoy doing. You can do it!
Huge factor here is that people could also probably work part time but they rack up too many bills they didn’t need to. They get kids, a mortgage, a car etc etc. because it’s “normal”.
This is so true bc society conditions you but there is a way out, un program yourself to live a simple life and tell your self you don’t need or want that. You can change that and get out of bondage.❤
Yea, having kids. without those people this conversation on RUclips , including yourself is moot. How is everybody so clueless to the obvious these days?
I finally had the courage to send resignation letter to my boss after being unhappy with my job for a long time. Constant pressure, frustration, boredom and bad managment have negatively affected my overall mental heath. I feel like i just couldn't take a breath, and have so little time for my self. After i realized that this shit is not worth it for my health and happiness, i took the leap to quit. Now i feel so relieved. Thank you Tim for the inspiration and motivation.
@@tofusamurai22The best coping mechanism against that is to tell yourself: this work I'm doing isn't for my benefits, I'm just going to do it good enough, but I won't go above and beyond
Yup %100. I dismiss all the BS people put out there. You can't even go on the Internet without people trying to force their ratrace mentalities on everyone. Even women won't shut up and sit down with the shit about how a man is supposed to be lol
We brainwash ourselves too, to stick it out, especially when you're a young parent. I never wanted to be dependent on anybody, so i forced myself to stay at my job.... Now, 26 years later I'm still there and I'm mad at myself for never taking risks, so now I've been taking steps over the last year to move more money to dividend paying stocks, got some crypto mining, and a rental property. I plan to give my 2 weeks notice in 5 weeks, kind of nervous, but deep down I have to leave that place.
I like how you always mention we also shouldn't look down on people who DO work normal day jobs. Some feel grateful for their job, enjoy the routine, and are surrounded by amazing people while making consistent money. Ive been naive in grouping the whole working class as one miserable entity in my mind.
Facts. The problem is It's disrespectful because doctors also work a 9-5. The people that haul our dead bodies and junk away are also 9-5 workers. This is the reason people get mad about others talking down on the 9-5.
Oh, right. So when the infrastructure fails because you are all too lazy to work-who is going to keep the lights on? Keep the toilets flushing, the roads usable and the food available at your fav cafe? Who is going to repair the car that you live in with your two dogs? If you don’t want to work, ok fine. Trying to make it sound noble is lame.
Tim! I can no longer force myself to work a 9-5. I'd rather be a waitress, and I mean that in a very literal sense. 9-5 feels like my whole life is on lock and I can't even apply. I was a junior coder making good money, but not experienced enough to fly solo. Now, I do two tens, at a warehouse, on the weekend, and get that shift differential.
I spent 15 years as a psych nurse.. I left and I now deliver food for a living.. the stress level… sooooo much lower. I love it. Not the best money but it’s just enough. I’m happy.
I HATE my 9 to 5. Yeah the money is good but money don’t mean shit if you’re miserable. I’m kid free and single, trying to pay off debt so I can work something less stressful which generally means less pay but stressing yourself out 24/7 just to maybe enjoy the last 15 years of life with a nice 401k…why is that the best path? You may not even make it to retirement and if that happens you just made yourself miserable for no reason and let’s say you do make it to retirement, whose to say you would be happy? You may wake up and realize you wasted your best years being miserable and stressed out 24/7.

Bro I resisted this system for so long, I told my partner the other day I had 6 year long summer break after high school, I graduated only 6 months early, due to an abundance of effort. I am 5 years into the longest career of my life lol. In my neighborhood we have professional pan handlers. They will not except jobs from contractors who need laborers. They turn their nose up at hard work for honest pay, so I say if you are an average joe, working hard for average pay. The system is playing you as a fool! They are exploiting us in modern day slavery, there is nothing wrong with working, having a purpose can be helpful, but its not a fair trade. You trade your time and your health for money so you can enjoy your life. Then you become ill and die before you get to enjoy the life!
The most important things in life are connection with other people and the natural world. Work will never make me happy, especially not in this 35-40 (or MORE!) hour a week expectation hellscape. I am much happier now that I gave my online freelancing the flick and do gardening work outside now. I don't need to work flat out. Just enough to get by. And have plenty of time for my hobbies. I am still incredibly saddened how many are caught up in the rat race though. I crave connection with other people but there is such limited opportunity to find it in todays world where people are time poor and live their life with blinkers on, focussing on career/money/status whilst neglecting the things that really matter. It's awfully sad. I feel lonely most of the time but I know that I am much better off keeping active alone than suffering day in day out in a job I can't stand, as my life ticks away. We desperately need to rediscover community and let work take a backseat in our lives.
From the age of 26 years old i knew my purpose for my life was to live my life as an adventures and travel , that it . I am 66 years old now and still living my life that way and here the paradox here lots people will tell me yes but you dont have a house what happen if something happen to you bla bla bla and on the other hand they say i wish i could do what you do heheheheh i am now at the age of 66 on a scooter for the last 14 months travelling all around the philippines .

I literally think about this atleast once a day, like how did we as a society accept that working 9-5 is normal? When I tell people that I hate working they just say stuff like „welcome to the real world“. Like what? I know for a fact that I won‘t be doing that because no amount of money is worth my free time.
i feel this too hard rn. most people i talk to about my work struggles all just say some variation of "this is your life now, it is what it is" or "things COULD be worse" or try to convince me that this is the way i have to go, or they try to get me to like it. no advice or nothing
I am on vacation this week. I go back to my day job on Monday night, and I have been "worrying" and thinking about taking 2 days off when I only have enough PTO to cover for one day off next week. I am worried about the potential repercussions of not showing up for one day. I want to take a short trip to Atlantic City, NJ to attend a DJ EXPO and see some people I haven't seen in many years. Here I am worrying about just taking the days off. Now I am thinking who the hell cares? Why should this be a big deal? Just take the time off and do what I want and should do, and not let a work schedule control my life 100% of the time. Screw work.
When I am at the workplace I take what I am doing seriously and try to do my best. BUT I don’t take my “job” that seriously with respect to life and who I am. It is just a temporary means to an end. I am using it as a stepping stone to my real plans.
Yeah I've had enough. Absolutely hate it. Spent the last year saving every penny now just need a motorhome of some kind and have a year off for starters and go from there.
I work a 9 to 5 and I have a choice to make and my choice is to work until I’m debt free after that figure out what I really want to do. God Bless everyone trying to make it in this world
if you dont have alot of bills and manage your money well you def do not need a 9-5. side hustles can be enough no one ever said on there deathbed wow i wish i could of put more hours at my job
This is so true! Unfortunately I had some of the best times during the plandemic when I got “let go” from my job. I had time to actually THINK about what else I wanted to do with my life. I had time to spend with my child and I had time to start my now independent music career. Now im back working and trying to figure out how to get back to that life. Watching this video sipping my coffee when I should be headed to work lol. I love you Tim! Thanks for all your insight 💜
It appears to be a thing now with the young generations especially, people are prioritizing away children and families for a simpler individualistic life, therefore, the need for big incomes drastically decrease, i think this is largely the response to the explosion in cost of living, people simply wont slave away just to scrape by anymore, me included. Us men can get by with incredibly little and be content. I only hustle a little to cover my basic needs, and I've learned how to invest and administer my money well for times down the road, in these trying times diversifying is key.
That’s why I’ve been researching so much about investing lately. I want to take the money I’m making currently while working and stretch it as far as possible.
Always a pleasure to watch! I was in a poor mood today from bills, life, etc and this really changed my mood. You remind me that life CAN get better and I thank you so much!
This is why we don't have universal healthcare in the U.S. People in countries that do have universal healthcare have the freedom to choose their own path. We in America, the supposed land of the free, are chicken heads that talk about freedom but choose bondage.
The older I get I recognize this. Both political parties have lost me at this point because in the end they have the same vision. It's just forced compliance to a different lifestyle at the expense of someone else's suffering
@@patrickrodriguez320 Both political parties are lying through their teeth when they tell you America can't afford public healthcare. What they are actually saying is that the owners of the healthcare industry don't want to give up the income. Healthcare should not be a business. Anyone who thinks it should is emotionally ill. There is no basis for insurance to be involved either. All people need healthcare throughout their lives. The risk of needing healthcare is 100%. 20% of US GDP is in healthcare. That's 1 out of every 5 dollars. The grip that the shareholders have on the country is phenomenal. Larger probably than the defense contractors. In classical economics, this is called rent seeking. The income the owners receive is because they own access to healthcare. It's no different from ownership of land during the Middle Ages. Most of the income by the wealthy in the US is rent seeking. Both parties are soldiers for the rent seekers. The claims by people who are pro capitalism are not true, and haven't been true since the 19th century when land out west was free to homestead and the Federal Reserve act of 1913 had not created the income tax. There are RUclips channels similar to this channel except they are run by people from Sweden who live in the woods, no job, no rent, no taxes, and no healthcare costs. They are horrified when I tell them how we Americans spend most of our earned income paying off rentiers and tax collectors.
You're spot on, Tim! I agree, there's a big difference between 'jobs' and doing work that we love. The job can feel miserable and meaningless, whereas being able to do work we love feels wonderful and fulfilling. (I once heard someone say, "Notice what you have a passion for doing, then figure out a way to get paid for it.") I think our society is slowly on the way to realizing that many things about all of our lives will greatly improve when everyone can afford to do what they love. What a happier world! Wishing you all the best, Tim.
Yeah, a world with no grocery store workers, farmers, bricklayers, electricians, plumbers, doctors, nurses, technicians, accountants, etc.… We would all just be a bunch of happy people with no resources and no services and new modern conveniences. It would be bliss!
I don't want to work anymore. Your spirit nudges you and you know when its time. I have worked for over 40yrs. I will be 65yrs in hJan 2025. I love my job but im tired. I cannot get out of bed to be @ work @ 8am. I would still work but on. My own terms.
You are Right again Tim! Yeah, I took alot of warehouse jobs that have no A/C at all, sweat dripping into your eyes burning your eyes, back hurting all day, supervisors wanting you to work harder and faster, meeting some "rate"/production number you "have" to meet or you'll get fired, all for $16 - 18 hr. It's insane and depeessing, beyond stress! I'm researching how to change my way of working to make money, I'm 54, just seeing life and peace slip away each day and year.
This is absolutely true Tim why are we going to work why do people even work we can't afford a home with these prices if you are lucky enough to live with family and you really don't have to pay anything go out there and do you do not work it's completely pointless you used to be able to work and see the products of your hard work but nowadays you do not know matter how many hours you put in so just screw it ,do you
Last year I was off from work for 3 months because of an injury and surgery. I had no income but I had an emergency fund to cover situations like this. It was some of the most enjoyable days I've had in years. I could have worked on light duty but my employer only allows you to work if you are at 100%. So I enjoyed my time as much as I could. I was happy, smiling, hunted and hiked in the woods all fall. I want out of this game of "working"... It's rigged against us. Having 3 months off, I thought, would be a detriment. It was a blessing.
The American system is close to serfdom in 2024. Thank God i find 🙏 it out. I am 47, all I want is food, a place to sleep or shelter, sometimes sex and travel .
It's not that some people don't want to work , it's opposite! Employers are picky and when they do hire you they overload you to the point you can't take it anymore. The workplace inmost cases is horrible 😫
Sad but true 😢 They totally overload us to get their pound of flesh for the measly coins they toss our way. Can't wait to exit this modern day slavery.
You hit that point Tim. I am trying to figure out quite some time now, how to get out of the program. I will not give up. I am glad for those who are happy with their jobs.
My last Job had a Terrible Relationship with my Boss. He eventually Fired me for no good reason. But in hindsight it was the Best thing that could happen, so I thank him and want the best for him! I’ve been much happier and more relaxed since
I still work but I work less hours and I love what I do because it don't consider of breaking my back and I'm traveling every month which includes work and fun
I’m 43, you inspired me to take the last year off of work. I spent the year traveling across the US doing a roadtrip from New York to Idaho. I also took trips to Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Chicago, Utah, Vegas, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and probably other places I’m forgetting. I rent out a room in my home for a little income, I also took a couple of short term seasonal jobs. I’ve accepted a new 9-5 job where I will be working a 4-day week and have unlimited PTO, so that I can save more money over the next 1-2 years and then hopefully be able to take more time off for extended travel. For context, I have no debt except my mortgage which is about 175k owed on a house worth about 450k. I have no kids-which is a massive cost savings! 😂 I don’t buy any “stuff” unless I truly need it. I do spend money on travel and experiences. I’m going on one last trip to Germany and Belgium before I start my new full time job. Sharing this because I think it’s a good example of creating your own path, finding ways to save money so that you can have a more flexible lifestyle. It helps not to listen to society and friends and family who have trapped themselves in a debt cycle. They tend to make you feel like you have no other options and that’s a lie.
Hello Timothy and I very much appreciate you and you and your efforts as I am now living in a weekly hotel in Las Vegas. I have given up almost everything including my beloved pets after 4 years. I have learned to "let go" of almost everything!!! Kudos to you and my next step is to live in a van....Kudos to you as I have .worked my whole life and still have nothing
Totally agree with you. I honestly like to work, but I am very picky about what I do for work and the environment, and ppl I work with, meaning I will quit a job in a hot second. But I just got a career job that I really want and find it worth it to keep. And I'm excited to work this job. And I'm happy with how much I make.
Respectfully, I think it's crazy how people working a 9 to 5 talking about the non 9 to 5 people leeching off tax dollars. Most of the people working a 9-5 W2A aren't even barely paying taxes (Most of yall get taxes back) compared to the non 9 to 5 1099 people that's doing their thing making money. We have to pay way more to the government in taxes off the money we make.
I agree… I think that is happening to an extent. In my case nearly every 9-5 I’ve had to work with awful ppl… I decided I was not going to use up 8-9 hours, 5 days a week, of my valuable time in such awful environments. There is a price for it, though. Unreliable (and low) income. It’s kind of a case of “choose your hard”.
HI TIM I LOVE THIS MESSAGE MY SOBRIETY BUDDY AND FRIEND!!! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD OF YOU GIVING US VERY, VERY GOOD ADVICE THROUGHOUT THE YEARS!!! I JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR SHARING SO MANY POSITIVE WORDS LOVE YOU MY BROTHER STAY STRONG AND STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!!🙏🏽❤️
Good Topic! Another thing is doing work for money. When we work solely for money we feel like we sell our souls. I am a teacher and many criticize me for choosing to teach. Dave Ramsey the financial guru listed education as the number 3 field that produces millionaires! So choosing a career that is rewarding is crucial to happiness
Love this!! Absolutely love this👏🏾👏🏾 literally if you put the work in and find a way to either find a cool job in a cool place or find a job that you love, then folks wouldn’t be miserable like the ones who stay working at the courthouse for 80yrs😅. But also if they want to then go ahead because like you said Tim, it opens up all of the cool jobs for us😂👏🏾. Great video as always!
That's why im working on my real estate license because it won't feel as much like work. Plus, I love helping people, and it gives me more income for my time and effort.
Thank you, Tim. Been following your channel for years. I just quit my job last week. And it's just crazy how the job turned me. I felt strange and anxious when I have nothing to do and just sitting at my kitchen table at 9am on Tuesday morning. Like when we get out of the comfort zone (my job is the comfort), and now the reality just slap me on the face. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm challenging myself to not do anything for a week. Damn, it's hard and painful. 🤣🤣🤣
Solid video. I'm single, but I do my 9-5 job and I am working on getting myself into a position where I can get to be more free. My goals are to retire when I am financially capable of doing so and travel around the country. My 9-5 setup is still a solid opportunity, even though the pay could be better. My boss is good and my coworkers are solid guys that I've worked with since roughly Covid. I am also planning on doing a cross country drive at some point, when I can get some money saved up to do so.
Amen, man. This is what I try to explain to people. When I'm not at my job, I'm usually working on something. The job takes time away from work that I'm interested in. I just do the job for the money that society places a high importance on.
I love this title!!! 😂 💯 This is how I honestly feel and I swear my Mom thinks I’m lazy or entitled simply because I want to design my life differently! FAR FROM LAZY! I was your quintessential good A+ student as a young person, I was able to get a full ride scholarship to college, completed an undergraduate degree and a masters degree. Started off on the corporate ladder, low on the rung and worked for about 7 years making progress along the way into decent mid level program management roles, but in my late 20s / early 30s I decided that I just did not want to participate in the corporate climb, and began my journey of designing an alternative route. I just personally don’t like the schedule of corporate work. I strive for flexibility and am still very hardworking, but I’m more so interested in working on matters that are actually of interest to me and I don’t want to be in bondage to money by way of undesired tasks. I personally would rather homestead / garden, read/write, work via my own small business, simplify my life, and invest in the market.
I’m 31 and I found a way to make more money then what I do working I honestly do not want to work anymore it stresses me out to the point where I quit and I haven’t worked in a year.
We definitely work too hard. What is the rush? So they can buy another yacht? They used to have Cartoons talking about how in the future technology would make it so we could do the same amount of work in far less time. Conversely the rich heard that they could make more money if they kept people working the same or more.
I don’t think work is bad, work can be fulfilling if you like what you do, even if you don’t like it, you can find ways to make it enjoyable. To me is the people you work with and for, that is what ruins work, the work setting or environment sometimes is terribly draining. Ahole bosses, idiot and lazy co-workers, scheming managers and jealous coworkers, this is what damages work settings. And its no wonder people don’t want to deal with this anymore, is like you’re choosing between your emotional health and your finances. That’s crazy, you shouldn’t have to choose between your peace or your wallet. I think work can be purposeful and fulfilling, but people mess these things up, making work heavy and burdensome. Look at what’s happening with teachers, more and more teachers are resigning because they can’t deal with the bs school districts are letting happen and the disrespect of gen z students. I don’t blame them, when I use to go to school a teacher was respected, and a reputable job, now a teacher means nothing, and its not the job, its the people, I know it doesn’t sound very nice, but it’s the truth, as much as we don’t want to admit it.
I never get mad at people like that I envy them coming from someone that is mimalistic just have to find a way to ditch my car to save more money I love these videos
I used to not like the guy asking for change in front of a luquir store, but then I realized, all he needs is one or two beers to get through this day in life, while at the same time I spent money to move a 2000+ pound wehicle to propell me to to the same liquor store where he came by foot. After that I started giving him good change and then he started avoiding me, he even said it is not mandatory to give him change.
Hey Tim. I’m so happy that you worked hard and it paid off for you, foreal !!! Hearing you talk about how you dealt with things regarding your work really inspires me bc some days it’s hard. I’m building work that I love while in a job for the bills
The honest truth is that, those who own a business actually work harder and do more hours than those who do a 9-5pm.. it's short term pain for long term luxury though if your business does become successful. I speak from experience. The only way to live a simple life without owning a business is to live a minimalist life and refuse to follow the joneses. Basically saving all your pennies and not wasting it on trends. 1 pair of jeans that you can buy from a charity shop will literally last a lifetime etc. Think you get the point

Great plan .
I think you will regret selling your paid off home. When you get tired of being a nomad you may want to come back.
Wow! I love this story. I too took a two year break from full time work. I did that at 33 years of age.
I won't judge how people make money nowadays. Just doing whatever it takes to survive. 😢😢😢
Right! Atp I don’t judge either.
Duh because that's how society works.
This is so true bc society conditions you but there is a way out, un program yourself to live a simple life and tell your self you don’t need or want that.
You can change that and get out of bondage.❤

We brainwash ourselves too, to stick it out, especially when you're a young parent. I never wanted to be dependent on anybody, so i forced myself to stay at my job.... Now, 26 years later I'm still there and I'm mad at myself for never taking risks, so now I've been taking steps over the last year to move more money to dividend paying stocks, got some crypto mining, and a rental property.
If everyone is stop working 9-5 jobs, this world will collapse soon and you won't survive as well, we need people to work to run the society.
All i want to do is drive uber when i want to and travel. Thats it
Sounds like a plan!
Bro this is the way. Quit the corporate job started uber 2 years ago and been traveling 3-5 times a year 1-2 weeks at a time. Life is great.
You're able to make enough to live on that way?
@WindsongPodcast good question, I would like to know too
Tim would you like to tell me more about working at the North Dakota oil rigs?
Timothy is literally saving lives
I don't mind the 9-5. It's the not making enough to survive while some CEO makes millions, while saying there isn't enough money for hours.
If enough people stop going to their jobs and demand better from the companies. You might get better pay... Like 1 million people quit on the same day
That would effect the ENTIRE country and supply chain.
Exactly! We need to effect the ENTIRE country and the supply chain to get some change.
The ones with all the money will either have to work or give us some of it.

Agree re community.. it's bad in usa

When he says a lot of people don’t work… I immediately thought of my “Supervisors”
My dad has been investing for about 40 some years

This is why we don't have universal healthcare in the U.S. People in countries that do have universal healthcare have the freedom to choose their own path. We in America, the supposed land of the free, are chicken heads that talk about freedom but choose bondage.
The older I get I recognize this. Both political parties have lost me at this point because in the end they have the same vision. It's just forced compliance to a different lifestyle at the expense of someone else's suffering
Large amount of older ppl at my work only work full time for the healthcare. It's sad.

That’s a great point!

I agree… I think that is happening to an extent. In my case nearly every 9-5 I’ve had to work with awful ppl… I decided I was not going to use up 8-9 hours, 5 days a week, of my valuable time in such awful environments.

Blame equal opportunity for hiring and promoting on gender, sexual orientation, and skin color rather than on qualifications.
I'm 62 and have literally worked my whole life. I just quit my job and the last month has been great. I do what I want when I want.
Congratulations!

That’s pathetic
