    the Wurlitzer electric piano was also developed during the 1950s. It was developed by another person that was recognized as a music educator named Benjamin Franklin Meisner was responsible for amplified instruments using struck accordion reeds what's electrostatic pickups and an amplification. portable Wurlitzer electric gals were in production by the late-1950s Ray Charles use one on What'd I Say and Sun-Ra used on before that.

      Thanks, Craig for this additional background. There is so much history behind all these musical instruments and I find it fascinating. There is so much to learn! Yes, watching the Ray Charles movie "Ray" had that terrific scene where he was first introduced to the Wurlitzer and you can just imagine how it blew is sox off when he first played it.

      Hi Noiselab Project! First, congrats on your first 'keyboard'! And after checking out your channel a bit, I see that it's technically not your first Nord (I saw your Nord Rack 2X). And speaking of your channel, your studio is insane! I have no idea how you keep track of it all but it's fantastic! I think your new Nord will be a great compliment to your live jams and such as it has some nice 'on the fly' options when playing. Oh, and I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to whatever you come up with next. Thanks for watching!

    Great video. Here's a tweak for the "Light My Fire" sound. On the recording, Larry Knechtel doubled the bass part. Add your fav bass sample in the synth section to the Panel along with the EP used for the Fender Piano Bass (e.g. sample 128, "Fender Prec Direct"). Assign the Wheel to morph the volume from 0 to approx -2.5 dB. That allows you to dial in the amount of Fender bass to the Rhodes Piano Bass - to taste.

    It’s a bit hard to find, but there is a whole bundle of Vox and Farfisa patches for classic 1960s songs available on the Nord website, made by a guy who seems to have pretty deep knowledge of the Vox. He points out that the original Vox only used four draw bars - with just those pulled plus some eq you can get Light My Fire sounding very close to the record! www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libraries/product-libraries/stage-pianos/nord-stage-3/voxfarfisa-library

    Fascinating video.
    Very informative, although I'm not sold on your 'Connie' sound for Light My Fire.
    There is one that seems more true to the record in the Vox / Farfisa Library over at the Nord website, although the sound itself is a Split with an Organ Bass. You need make note of the Upper Sound and copy those settings. As much as this setup is the classic Ray Manzarek sound, the Continental Organ did not prove to be roadworthy and was replaced with a Gibson G 101 for live shows.

    OK, instead of a Rotary Sim, try putting it through the Twin amp emulation. Your split point should be the lowest, so you'll get two and a half Octaves of the Piano Bass. You wouldn't normally have any more. You wouldn't need any more.

      Great tips @horowizard and long time no speak! FYI: Sometimes, I make the split point in the middle of the board so that everything fits on camera while magnified. Also, I don't use the Twin amp much but I probably should - it creates such a difference in sound. Thanks

      Hi DeanoPiano. Really appreciate your comment here and several others have asked for something similar. You're right, it doesn't seem like there's much out there on this. With that said, I've got content planned in and around the synth and have spent the last few weeks getting myself trained up in preparation for that. I also plan to take a deep dive on the effects as well which I personally find interesting because we talk about effects all the time but rarely spend a minute of thought about their origin, their DNA, their purpose, and best use case for each. What I want to know is if there is any way to boost the output of the Nord Vox on an electro 5. I’ve tried everything I got, and it’s still lower in output than all the other organ sounds.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  3 года назад

      Hello Bee. This may seem a bit too obvious, but did you already try assigning the EQ to the Organ and boosting Bass, Mid, and Treble? In general, if done as a group, it essentially increases the volume through most of the EQ range - you just have to be careful on the mid to adjust to taste as this is a variable option for mid.

  • @profharp

    Question--is there a way to get piano bass sampling on the left hand split and REGULAR piano on the right hand? Or Hammond-type left hand bass split along with a real piano right hand sampling? Also, do both bass voices have a separate output?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  5 лет назад

      Hi profharp. Thanks for your question. So I think the answer is mostly yes to all your questions except the separate output part.
      If you own a Nord Electro 5/6, you should have no problem creating a split with a piano bass sample in the left hand AND a regular piano in the right hand. In fact, if you watch the video above, you could simply put a piano instead of an organ in the right hand you'd be good to go. Likewise, you could put an Hammond-type bass in the left hand and a piano in the right hand. However, if you want to use the B3 + Bass option, I think that requires an organ in the right hand to work. I'll have to check that out on my Nord Electro 5 which I'm away from for a week or so.
      As far as outputs go, there is only a left ande right channel. I believe you could split the outputs and have your left hand/bass coming out of one channel and your piano coming out of the other. But you'd lose your stereo capability. The Nord Stage 3 allows for advanced output routing like this FYI. I'll have to double check all this on my Nord Electro when it's available.
      Thanks for watching!

I think that gives us keyboard players a favorable advantage in the workplace. 😎 Sorry bass players. Hi, I had a Nord Stage 3 Compact and now a Stage 3 HP (I did change cause the key action, much better on HP 76). I never got the pedal noise working on both so I think is something that I'm missing in my setup. I already navigated thru all specific menus, the manual did not help also. Any trick step to make my Piano pedal noise working properly? (I did test in two different pedals, on of those are Nord branded, the other one a generic Roland sustain pedal).

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  6 лет назад

      Hi Galeno! You'll need a very specific pedal to get the pedal noise to work properly. You'll need either the Nord Triple Pedal or some have reported that the Korg DS1H pedal also works well. I haven't confirmed this personally. Here is more information on this topic for you: www.norduserforum.com/nord-stage-forum-f3/pedal-noise-without-triple-pedal-t14848.html

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  6 лет назад

      And one more note about this. I was able to "sort of" trigger pedal noise just now by going into the sound settings (page 8 on your Nord once you enter sound settings) and change the pedal to "Triple Pedal" (turn the dial all the way to the right). That allowed my regular Nord sustain pedal to trigger the noise a bit. And the sound seemed to have 3 varieties depending on how hard I push the pedal. However, I don't believe any of this works exactly as it was intended to because I'm spoofing the pedal type. So, I still think you need a Triple pedal from Nord to use it as it was intended or maybe the Korg DS1H. Great question by the way.

    • @GalenoGarbe
      @GalenoGarbe 6 лет назад +1

      Had same result here. Definitively is not yet working as expected once the noise are intermittent and abrupt. I will call the store today once they have all this stuff and they are kind to attend this kind of support request. I will let you know the results. Maybe the KORG DS1H works once this pedal has a P10 stereo type connection (looks like they are gradual then just ON/OFF command, what is required to activate properly the pedal noise).

    • @GalenoGarbe
      @GalenoGarbe 6 лет назад +1

      Back on this topic, after testing three different sustain pedal I just decided to go to the Nord triple pedal and voila! The pedal noise, the beauty of the natural pedal on the grand acoustic pianos and also the open dynamic range of the real pedal is finally on my Nord Stage 3! I strongly recommend this device to who loves piano!

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  6 лет назад

      @@mikecampbell4349 This is a terrific question and it may be worth a future video to clarify it. First, this area of the Stage 3 has changed since its release. You may need to update to the later Nord OS versions in order to see first-hand what I'm about to explain. So, programs on the Nord don't go above the 5th digit. Everything is calibrated so that the highest number you can get in any one bank is 55. So it works like this. Programs start with 11 and progress through the lower numbers never using digits 6, 7, 8, 9, or 0. Here is the pattern: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. So banks A - P (16 banks) each have 25 storage locations for a total of 400 program locations. These are selectable by the knob and page buttons. In addition, you can also use the buttons 1 through 5 on the keyboard to select programs. Finally, you can specify in the system settings for your Nord to be "Page Base" or use "Numeric Pad" which will change the personality type a bit allowing you two different ways to navigate and select the programs. Like I said, this might be better explained in a video. Thanks for the good question. You can find the system settings for these two options by going to the system settings, page 2.

      @@mikecampbell4349 Mike, based on when you purchase your Stage 3 (and I believe it was within the last two months if my memory is correct), you should have an OS late enough whereby your numbers are calibrated to the latest version. "PSTICK (Shift + octave Shift left/down button) turns on pitch stick functionality for the synth, in which case the Synth sound can be bent 2 semitones up and down, using the pitch stick."

"Synth Pitch Stick Range" and then use the Page dial to select the range in semi-tones up to +/- 12. There are also setting for +2/-12 and +2/-24.

      Hi Uleiosu. We’ll, I agree - especially with the fact the besides the original organ and the sounds it produced, there is the recording equipment to consider, any additional effects that were used, along with Ray’s performance that can never be duplicated. But, it is nice to reflect upon these great times in history and relive a small part of them in a small way to perhaps inspire others to see the greatness within. Selfishly, I’ve come to appreciate all these timeless songs and sounds so much more as a result of these discovery video explorations - much more than I thought I would in fact. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Mark, i enjoyed your vid immensely, very professional. In regards to the connie i FUlly agree with you and i like the fact that someone tries really hard to brinG SOME 60’S sound to the masses. So well done. Still when i listen to the uk or italian vox continental i get goosebumps, on the emultated sound i dont get it. i love the fact that the Nord e5 emulates the leslie speaker (i have an original leslie inside my italian organ) which speaker is long forgotten. keep on the good work, there are some who appreciate your work!

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments Uleiosu! I plan on keeping things up on this for sure and I look forward to the future to see where all this technology takes us. And we'll keep "chasing the goosebumps" 😄

      Luis - based on your other comment, I take it you already found one on the Nord User Forum?
