The Precision is incredible
Maybe precision is 0.1 mm
Currently it's 0.3 ryt?

It’s like a sewing machine for capacitors
Yes like button fitting machine 😂
You took the words out of my mouth 😠
Spicy needles
Indeed it sounds like a sewing machine
Why is this soothing?!?!
I’d love to see closeup of the mechanism how the legs are guided through the holes.
однако
I think also
Same thinking
You read my brain
No need of a guiding mechanism. The machine knows every component's precise location and orientation from the PCB design file.
I wasn’t that impressed with the precision to get into the holes however the bottom actually cuts and solders the leads. Now that is impressive.
The bottom only crops the leads, the board will feed into a wave or selective solder machine next.
I’m glad it’s not being done by hand.
Don’t solder. Just cut and clinches
I don't believe this machine solders
No, it doesn't solder the leads, if you see the other videos the devices attached to the pcb still move freely
My first day work, I visited this department in my factory. Panasert machine from Panasonic in 1989.
What type of Programming do they use to operate the machine? Plc programming? Or normal language programming like python, c++ ?
I worked with UIC only. Panasert is quite different
@@unconquerable4172 these days at least they have a windows/linux computer attached and you give it files generated from your PCB design program

I didn't know capacitors were placed with sewing machines. You learn something new every day.
Pick and place machines are amazing. They’re absolutely ubiquitous in electronics manufacturing, and without them, things would cost so much more than they do.
With all the joy of lead-free solder with cold and or broken solder joints.
This isn't pick and place. This is through hole insertion (with cut and clinch)

It’s not. Circuitry is usually 50ų to 100ų. That’s about 10x the size of the holes which inject gas into engines.
A "Sewing machine" for PCBs.. nice!! ❤

Back in the day the TDK VC-7C Radial Inserter was the able to keep up with production at Rockford Fosgate Tempe, AZ
whats a rosford fosgate? U build foss gates for pewtin?
They are Electrolytic Capacitors. They can only be put in one way….one leg is the anode and the other is the cathode. The machine inserted them all in the correct orientation.
Yup, who asked?
The componants are tested by a programable verifier (VER) just before the enter the enclosure. If the electrolytic cap. is the wrong way round (operator error when loading) the machine will stop and light up a lamp.
@@trespire Yes indeed, I remember it well.
I've seen videos of pick-and-place for surface mount devices, but this is even more impressive.
It's called a Pick and Place Machine. Next step would probably be placing the rest of the thru-hole parts. Then its off to wave or selective solder.
You should see a machine that does surface mount parts too. Amazing!
You realize this machine is soldering them at the same time yeah?
@@ObservationofLimits No.

It's a radial insertion machine, not a pick and place. A pick and place would pick and then place SMDs. On this machine, you can see the sequencer chain and the cut and clinch head just at the end of the shot. I was a production engineer in an electronics company for 15 years. I know these machines very well, along with axial inserters, pin inserters and IC inserters. The ones I have programmed and maintained were Dynapert, Amistar and Universal. This is not soldering.
Yea, I didn't know if the arm below the PWB was soldering of prepping the lead for the next step.
I too worked in manufacturing but more on a product introduction standpoint. 16 years overall and was responsible for managing the setup of the entire production area, processes, systems, etc. We did everything from SMD, hybrid, PTH, and even hand placement. I've seen wave, selective, oven, and hand soldering. All very cool!
Ahh the days of through hole! 🕳️ miss working with it! Smt is quick. But the accuracy of the through hole is excellent!
It would take a human being 30 minutes to do this job as reliably.
30 minutes for a very well trained one.
Don't forgot that machine itself made by human being
I used to make cards for a living. I had several boards that had close to 1k parts. Less than 6 hours to complete one.
and that would create a high paying job. we would be fine with hand made expensive computers. the internet is diminishing returns, look at what its giotten us.. was cool untill like 2010 then its not actually done anything useful for us anymore. we should all go back to like a few decades that was teh sweet spot.
As an audio engineer, I really love this plugin!
That loop is almost flawless, good work my guy
What a precision. Maths at it's peak
I was a maintenance technician on one of these machines (Universal Radial88 Inserter) and let me tell you…when the calibration got off you’d spend the next several days getting it back into alignment. Everything had to be perfect from the rear of the machine where the parts are loaded onto the conveyor to the head that grabs the leads and places it in the board and clips/crimps on the bottom.
An incredible mechanical machine, with so many parts that could and did wear. But when it worked smoothly it was amazing to watch.
The calibration isn't that bad, nor should it take so long. If the stop position of the chain moves, the yes it can take along time to get everything fine tuned again. We had 3 RAD machines running 24hours. I had a spare cut and clinch head assembly on standby with good symetrical knives and corretly lubticated. 5 to 10 good rebuilt clips. At least one fully rebuilt adjusted and tested feeder. And a partially prebuilt head inserter. These are good machines.
This is called a RAD (radial instertion) machine, made by Universal Instruments Inc. Binghamton, NY.
I used to maintain these, along with SEQ (axial sequencer), and VCD (variable center distance). If well maintained can work 24hrs.
I still have the full set of drawing, operating and programming litrature.

The motors that can make move this PCB are amazing
This is beautiful... Ive been watching for 10 minutes now. Why is it so calming?

The engineers behind this machine is genius
What's crazy is while this is really fast, when you think about the scale of pcb manufacturing this is actually a really slow process!
Respect to the worker moving the pcb gast enough to keep up
No worker is moving the pcb. It is done by x and y axis cnc table.

I hope someone has jacked up the audio here because it sounds like they're stamping auto parts or something.
This remember me 20 years ago. I used to love to work with these machines.
Really surprising to see this running so smoothly, generally when we will do it manually. It will be quite difficult to pass the capacitor terminal through the hole as most of the time it will be bend will not be able to pass thru
Timing and the precision was awesome 👍🏻
- The white tube to the cut and clinch is the wrong part. It should be a bright yellow-green, and properly clamped to the cut n clich unit to create a good vacuum, otherwise the leg trimmings will build build up inside the cut n click caussing it to fail and even brake a knife.
- The 2 contact wires should be black spiral wires, not those staight white wires.
Whoever is in charge of maintaining the RAD should do a better job.
I could watch this all day
I have worked in several circuit board assembly companies and I have seen these and many other types of these machines perform, and all I can say is this is either an old machine, it's running on low speed or it's just a slow machine. Most of the machines I worked with operated at such high speed, that board would only take 2-3 seconds to be done
All components are visually inspected by a person in a separate room to verify quantities, alignment, quality, and that they are the correct component
Can see some horizontal plug in?
I will show this video to our IT guys in the company, for motivation 😂
