It seems like drop towers are a dying species which is a shame. They give such a good adrenaline rush while also providing excellent views of the surroundings. For me, they can often be my favorite ride in the parks that have them, especially Highlander at Hansa Park.
I wouldn’t really say they’re a dying species, but I think a lot of the recent accidents on rides like the Haunted Mine Drop and Florida Freefall have turned people away from purchasing new ones, and some of the ones that have been removed like Superman at Six Flags St Louis or the one at Drayton Manor are reaching the end of their service life
Yeah, at my home park Six Flags Over Georgia the drop tower Acrophobia is 100% of the time a walk on, no matter how busy the park is. I personally hate it, despite the really thrilling nature, so I can see why others do too. The seats are uncomfortable especially since they lean out and I feel like many guest feel unsafe on the ride due to the reliance on the restraint. Wouldn't be deeply saddened to see it go.
It's very sad how people are pushing away from drop towers because if the stupid incidents on Haunted Mine Drop and Orlando Free Fall but people won't learn or understand, I cannot believe SFSTL removed Superman TOP. One of the worst decisions iv ever seen a park make.
@Nate P Is it actually a walk on? And the seats leaning forward is the part that makes it fun and scary no? And there is no way people aren't ridding it because of a lack of restraint feeling. People would not feel unsafe from that.
I think the icon accident will make most parks avoid drop rides for awhile... especially considering there were also accidents on other models of Intamin's previously. I honestly believe that's the only reason BGT has had theirs down so much the last year. I don't think it has anything to do with needing parts.
Yeah. I agree. I call BS on the whole "waiting for parts" nonsense! BGT is my home park and that thing has been SBNO for most of the year, right next to that awful, Phoenix looping starship, that has also been sitting there gathering dust and rust since 2018. (I heard that they finally demolished it a few weeks ago. Thank gawd!)
I think if Anheuser Busch still owned and operated Busch Gardens, things would be much different. I've noticed quality of Busch Gardens Williamsburg has gone downhill since. It seems they are less willing to keep up the rides and park amenities.
@@JamesSmith-uc8tk I agree the food quality and ride ops have gone way down since they sold. i only have experience with Tampa though, just visited BGW for my first time last year.
@@supremefan We went to Christmas Town the week before Christmas in Williamsburg. The Smokehouse was closed and one of the main shows (Scrooge No More) wasn't running. Not to mention that their food selection has definitely gone down and they've had to bring in food trucks to make up for it. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to get the little guys some business, but what does that say about the operation of the park. Also, it seemed like Roman Rapids was closed for a large part of the year.
Regarding the restraints, in my many visits to the park, I have seen quite a bit of people turned away because they were too big for the very restrictive restraints. The restraints were the main reason I didn’t like Mach Tower.
I remember riding it the year it opened. I’m pretty small about 145 lbs and average height, nailed my shoulders on the restraints on the way down so bad it gave me a bruise on both shoulders. It’s been broken 2/3 other times I’ve been since opening year, and my last visit I rode it once and it bruised my shoulders again. Good bye and good riddance Mach Tower
I still see this as a loss. A drop tower is a staple at any park! Mach tower isn’t great but it was better than nothing and now there will be nothing for a while until it’s replaced. Maybe they’ll replace it with the falcons fury model! That would be amazing!
Hi Taylor and Sarah! I recently saw you guys go to BGW while I was there myself on New Year’s Day. I even got a picture with you guys which is still insane to me. Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you for putting a smile on so many peoples face even when you don’t try to, and thank you guys for being such a big inspiration :)
In defense of the boring ride, I'd rather be bored than what happened in Orlando. The ride did at least part of what it set out to do, but YOU survived. Yes! A Star Flyer would be nice.
One of my Family friends works at BGW said that they were not able to put it into observation mode for Christmas Town. And that was pretty much the nail in the coffin for the ride being removed
I’ve only ridden it in observation mode, and I remember even then before we got on they warned us there was chance the ride could get stuck at the top. If that happened, they said they’d put it back into drop mode and drop us. Not sure if that ever happened to anyone but it sounded like the control system was not the greatest.
YES PLEASE!!! A SKY ROLLER! If it is a 'round 130-150 ft, a bit like aerospin at liseberg, that would be so much better than a starflyer around 200-300 ft. It feels like starflyers have an identity crisis. It is intimidating going so high up with only chains holding you in but when i rode Himmelskibet at tivoli, which is about 250 ft, i felt that it was more of a family attraction honestly.
The one at Cedar Point has the combo tower called Power Tower I rode both of them the one that shoots up and down...They both were fun but I like the drop one better
Sky roller would be amazing here. I love the ride experience at MOA. A tower version would give you the option to get just a great view or a thrill if you want it.
You know with already having Verbolten and now Dark Koaster in that area of the park, I wonder if they are going to to theme the next ride to match the two coasters there.
My dream would be that they build off the theming from Verbolten and DarKoaster and replace it with an immersive indoor drop tower like Mystery Castle at Phantasialand or Knights Ride Tower at Fantasiana but use the Mad King Ludwig storyline and possibly some nods to the Black Forest and Big Bad Wolf. Now I doubt they will have room for that right in that spot. But they could add the Starflyer right there and the indoor drop tower somewhere further back in the area near Fest Haus. That way they still have a drop tower somewhere. I can dream, can't I?
I just realized that a bunch of drop towers are getting removed (Superman tower of power at six flags st louse, apocalypse at drayton manor, that icon drop tower in Orlando, and now this) I hope BGW gets a star flyer in its place as that view looks amazing. I personally am not the biggest fan of drop towers, I’ve always been scared of how freaking tall they are (I’ve been on tower of doom at elitches, and falcons furry at BGT) I’ll go on them but most of the time, it’s a no.

Oh if y'all hate these restraints on a droptower already, you'll be happy to know Moser also uses the same ones on a lot of their other rides including the Speed Flip, an insane flatride notorious for constantly throwing you around (very rare one btw that isn't found in the US and the only one left that I know of travels in the Netherlands, but basically it's a scrambler with 4D free spinning seats where the arms can also tilt up). These restraints give way too much room even for tall people like me, and considering how much hangtime you get it's probably not the best design choice (although it's also still my #1 flatride so I guess it didn't make a big difference for me in the end). Moser sure is an interesting manufacturer, casually making some of the most insane rides one can think of and then making the wrong type of restraints for it
Definitely not the worst drop tower especially for the park bush gardens Williamsburg is a very popular park and it also a great use for the absolutely amazing view I’m still so shocked that they are removing this but then again they always do something pretty special for rides especially after pantheon so I’m excited to see what they put there
In Finland we have 2 of those as the only drop towers in the country. Personally i quite like them but i can agree that the is not enough room for arms.
A couple years ago I saw S&S come out with a similar design to Falcons fury and I wonder if Busch Gardens would go with that. In the form of a combo tower.
Lol BG is my local theme park and that ride was sooo cool when it opened (and still cool in my opinion for the views and no lines) but I haven’t been on it in so long because it’s always underwhelming but not bad.
Finally! I mean, it sucks, sort of. But the ride is kinda bad with the restraints. They could replace it with something else or even a skyline coaster!
I’ve ridden this… sorta. Back in 2019 I got on it and the ride started, but we only went up like 5 feet before the ride broke down and we had to get off. I distinctly remember how uncomfortable the restraint was on my arms, and was actually glad that I didn’t have to ride it. I usually love drop towers, but this one seemed awful.
The seats are soooo damn small. I'm fairly buff, and I can't get my shoulders into the depression you are supposed to sit back into. On top of that, as you pointed out in the video, my arms are large and the restraint clamping down on them is not pleasant.
I like Drop Tower at Kings Island in Mason Ohio, Intamin Gyro even though I had to get the shoulder harness slammed down to get the safety belt to latch, which it did, it's due to my broaded shoulders, it's restrictive safety belt. Moser rides probably restrictive restraints. Also Power Tower at Cedar Point S&S my home park.
i mean the ride was free for busch since it was a prototype. it originally had vibrating effects right before you dropped but those obviously didn’t work for long.

Sorry but I disagree with you and I’m gonna have to give this video a thumbs down this time. 👎🏻 I am a big fan of this ride. I’m disappointed to see it go. 😢
Would u be able to make a video of every known ride and coaster closing in 2023. Would be good to know about the rides to try to hit up before they’re gone.
While most of the rides issues are defenitely related to the rides poor design, I don't understand the countdown at the top of the tower right before it drops. This takes away any surprise-factor that this ride could provide, and as a result, also the thrill-factor. If I could choose, I would replace this ride with another freefall tower. My first pick would of course be FunTime, but I don't know if, after the accident at Icon Park, a theme park in the US would want to build a FunTime tower. RES makes good freefall towers too. They're similar to FunTime towers in design, but the drop is more sudden on those which could provide auditional thrill... unless BGW messes it up again! They also function as observation tower rides, just like Mäch Tower itself.
The countdown doesn't make sense to me either. When the ride originally opened, it played the song from the movie Minority Report, and you had no idea when the drop was going to happen.
And it’s kinda sad how many towers have been closing recently, acraphobia at sfog, apocalypse at draton manor, Mach tower, and this may be controversial but even Orlando free fall shouldn’t have been closed, it was purely human error but gp went screaming about how it’s dangerous when they don’t even know what their talking about. What’s worse is all of these s&s towers going around suck, their completely forceless and the “drop” feels like being lowered in a elevator.
I was there like December 26th it wasn't running, but when I was on the other side of the park I saw it going up in said "Freak it" and left the park the bloody ride was barely ever running I only got to ride it 3 times in it's lifespan. But Busch gardens barely runs but 3 of it's coasters anyways. I only got to ride one ride while there and that took 40 minutes, after getting off pantheon everything that was running had a hour wait and I just left the park wasn't worth it. I go to Christmas town to skip herds of people that gem is lost now. Or maybe I was just lucky last time I went to Christmas town in 2020 it was like having a private park rented out just for yourself. I bet all drop towers have suffered low attendance in recent years. They might all become a thing in history books lol.
YESSSSS!!!!! I'm glad it's closing because this ride is an arm killer, I'm glad its not made by Mack (pun intended) At least i don't think its made by Mack Edit: I made the first half of this comment right as I saw the title lol, then i watched it and realized you said its made by Mosser sorry if I spelt it wrong, I've never heard of Mosser so idk how to spell it
Least there's the ones at KD up the road. Maybe they'll go with a star flyer to replace it. Something not a maintenance nightmare. Stick to the kiddie towers moser.
I was honestly hoping that they would relocate this ride to a much less significant park, but it looks like they are scrapping it. I just saw a couple photos of the top section in pieces in a dumpster. I am curious about what will replace this. Something like a star flyer would make sense, considering the small swing ride nearby. I'm wondering if the rides location had anything to do with its demise. The location provides an epic view, but the footprint is very small. If I remember right, this was originally the location of Le Catipult(the scrambler ride that sits in the Canada section of the park where the American Jukebox show originally took place). Also, the ride is perched at the edge of a bluff. So, I could imagine that there were some structural limitations. I just hope that whatever replaces it is an improvement on what was originally there.
Mäch tower is hated on for some reason, it is not the worst it is quite fun it all comes down to personal preference you can hate on it but for the time it was at Busch gardens it was nice and fun to ride. You can hate on it and all but I thought it was a good drop tower.
Strange! I believe this is the same model (although it is older) as the drop tower Kingi at my home park of Linnanmäki, but that one has tons of air from the drop, compared to the gyro drop intamin models I found extremely lacking like Scream at Heide Park. Definitely agree on the restraints though, they have space below the restraints for your legs to go flying but the're no space for arms.
Mach Tower at Busch Gardens Williamsburg had excellent floater airtime the whole way down. Don't believe anybody that says that it doesn't. The restraints are weird, but they don't restrict the airtime, nor do they cause any pain.
At 6'4 280lbs I fit in Mach Tower but it was very tight. I actually don't fit on Drop Tower at Kings Island at all, one of only 2 adult rides I can't fit on along with Fahrenheit.
I don't like drop towers and I hate this one as well 🤣🤣🤣 idk what this ride was supposed to be 😩😩 can you guys plz go back to Bush gardens this summer and get on pantheon with me lol plz I love you guys channel ❤

@@kazeryu17when I rode it there was no countdown or music. Just pure suspense… I hated it lol!
@@toripie313 It definitely had that suspense factor.
I haven’t been to Busch gardens because I live in the UK. But I hope to go one day in the future.
I was always waiting for the cheap metal paneling to fly off
This tower gets too much hate, I thought it was a lot of fun.
Putting a countdown on a drop tower defeats the whole purpose
I have a good replacement for mach Tower going to be another Drop Tower for the 2024 that is my suggest for the replacement of mach Tower
the drop tower in Tampa is rumored that it is never opening again. that would be OK with probably most since it was a bust from day 1.
I love our home park Taylor this is the one park we share
YESSSSS!!!!! I'm glad it's closing because this ride is an arm killer, I'm glad its not made by Mack (pun intended) At least i don't think its made by Mack
Edit: I made the first half of this comment right as I saw the title lol, then i watched it and realized you said its made by Mosser sorry if I spelt it wrong, I've never heard of Mosser so idk how to spell it
Least there's the ones at KD up the road. Maybe they'll go with a star flyer to replace it. Something not a maintenance nightmare. Stick to the kiddie towers moser.
Now turn to your side and get an awesome hot pretzel with honey mustard.
We did! 😃
A new drop tower could replace it soon.
Acrophobia’s drop car at Six Flags Over Georgia is stuck at the top of the tower!
I think the best logical replacement for this is a S&S tower, especially if it has those rotating seats on one of the towers.
At 6'4 280lbs I fit in Mach Tower but it was very tight. I actually don't fit on Drop Tower at Kings Island at all, one of only 2 adult rides I can't fit on along with Fahrenheit.
How the hell did this ride get a better sendoff than Scorpion?
I don't like drop towers and I hate this one as well 🤣🤣🤣 idk what this ride was supposed to be 😩😩 can you guys plz go back to Bush gardens this summer and get on pantheon with me lol plz I love you guys channel ❤
They do need a drop tower
Like, 2 days ago I rode this for the first and last time, the restraints are god awful.
I actually thought the drop was p good so ye, view was beautiful to :D
Overall: 4.5/10
If this was really bad, thank goodness it's closing forever.
I only rode it once and I didn't care for it. The restraints were uncomfortable and the drop was not good. I love the drop tower at KD so much better.
