    Her list: Flour, salsa, mayo, yogurt, bread, tortillas, granola, salad dressing, muffins, broth. This is a great list! I do these too. I'll add, ice cream, cookies, onion dip, and sometimes crackers. Also, I grow and dry oregano, basil, sage and rosemary. I grow and use fresh parsley, mint, and other other garden produce, but that isn't really year round, but seasonal. I enjoyed this video.

    I make my own mustard. The recipe is my grandmother’s from back in the early 1900’s. So easy and so yummy! You can add ingredients to make it a sweet mustard or whatever flavor you like. And it’s so easy and stores for a long time in the fridge.

    As a society we really need to teach our young ones this principle of self reliance! I wasn’t taught this at an early age but wish I was, trying to teach my kids that cooking and gardening are life skills they will NEVER outgrow. Great video, I love your content. Have made my own sourdough starter with your methods which are simpler than others and got great results thus far!

    No more store buy for me: Mayo, mustard, bread, pickles, pancakes/waffles, broth, dog treats (dehydrate sweet potatoes), dog food, blueberries, strawberries, cooking herbs, soap, deodorant, shampoo, wound salves, no salad dressings for 30 years, granola, cookies, quiche, pie shells, yogurt sometimes with raw milk, no fertilizers, soil amendments, few veggie starts. The list keeps growing. I love DIY.

    I found that I can use live kefir grains to make my own buttermilk, my own cheese with it, my own yogurt, my own starters that are sourdough taste . All this from my forever source of fermented kefir milk. I have a kitchen aid mill attachment for milling but I need to advance. I’m looking for an affordable mill now. I have an electric sifter and am anxious to start. I can and dehydrate everything but fruit because I have an aversion to the taste of sweet. I’m learning a lot from you. I have a lot of kefir whey that I use as a liquid for baking and for the liquid in my masa. Milled cornmeal. Almost anything I cook I use my Whey in it.

    I've been making all my own bread products as well as baked goods!! I mill my own flour, and it is a game changer!! I've found healthy recipes for homemade barbecue sauce, and my boyfriend makes homemade marinades if we're having wings. I also make my own vanilla extract. The initial process takes time as the longer you let it sit and steep, the more robust the flavor is, but it's worth it if you bake a lot like I do.

    I haven't bought bread in a while - I've been making my own with fresh milled flour for a couple months. Once I get my flaker and oat groats I won't be buying oatmeal.
    No more store bought flour. I've made my own fermented salsa the last 5 or 6 years, and sauerkraut. I make fermented pickles. Last year I made some jam with sad-looking plums, an abundance of peaches from a friend was made into jam too. I make my own applesauce from discounted apples from the store! I recently made mustard, and mayonnaise! Someday, when I don't live in an apartment I'm going to have a vegetable garden, and chickens!
    Oh, I'm going to make some tortillas for chicken chimichangas for dinner tonight.

    • @vixxcottage
      @vixxcottage 17 дней назад

      If you buy grocery store eggs, I can understand your husband's concern. If you use eggs from home-grown chickens that have not been washed, these less likely to have salmonella. Store bought eggs are washed to remove stool. If you have a clean nest, eggs have the protective bloom. That is why in Europe, the eggs are not refrigerated and placed on grocery shelves.

    • @TheRoseHomestead
      @TheRoseHomestead  17 дней назад +1
