Hi Dr Yoo, I've been following your career for a couple of years now. The main reason is because of your specialty with Asian noses. I have a 7 yr. old daughter adopted from China born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. She is absolutely spunky, funny and gorgeous. Her lip was repaired in China and her palate here in the U.S. China did an amazing job on her lip. Her features are nice and symmetrical but her little nose is very very flat from the lip repair. When the time is right, my husband and I would love for someone of your caliber and talent to evaluate her beautiful little nose. As parents, we want to give her the best quality of life possible. Have a great day, we will meet sometime. Thanks
Hi Patricia Board The youngest age rhinoplasty may be considered is after she has reached her adult height, which normally for females will occur around 15 years of age. She sounds blessed to have met such loving parents. Warm regards
Hi Luke P I am board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Warm regards
Hi Dr. Yoo, Is American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery a division under the American Board of Plastic Surgery? Several websites told me that patients should look for American Board of Plastic Surgery because it is the only Board that the federal government recognizes, so I just want to make sure with you (since I'm considering coming to you in the future for rhinoplasty).
Hi Samantha Smith The American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is a subspecialty board under the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This board is specifically recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialites (ABMS) to perform Plastic Surgery Within the Head and Neck, with additional expertise in plastic and reconstructive procedures within the head, face, neck and associated structures, head and neck reconstruction, management of maxillofacial trauma, soft tissue repair and cosmetic surgery. I encourage you to read more at www.abms.org Please do not hesitate to ask any further questions, and I look forward to speaking to you. Warm regards
Why? Are you suggesting that there is either better outcomes or improved patient safety with those credentials? If so, you would be incorrect. Those are membership groups that do not and cannot be linked to improved safety or patient satisfaction. You have succumbed to the false advertising linking them without any evidence to support it.
Hi Dr. Syed Mushahid Hussain I think one of the most important traits of a good surgeon is to be observant. Observe and learn from your teachers and professors not only in what they say, but in the way they do things, such as the way they operate, the way they position instruments in their hands, the angle with which they approach tissue - just to name a few. Observe your own patients to learn the effects of your techniques and ways in which they could be improved. This will go a long way in helping you to become the best you can be. Warm regards
Most medical schools will require: organic chemistry, physics, biology, chemistry, genetics, and English. Always check with the school you are interested in for any specific requirements.
In general, ophthalmology and facial plastic surgery have similar lifestyles in that work hours are typically very regular, and there are few, if any, emergencies to disrupt your life outside of work.
Hello Dr. Yoo, I’ve been having this question for a while and can’t find an answer... can you get a bachelor's degree in a pre-medical major for anatomy?
Hi Kirsten Gonzalez Your undergraduate institution would be best suited to answer your question, but in general you have a lot of flexibility over your choice of major as long as all of the "pre-medical" course requirements are fulfilled. Warm regards
Helo Dr.yoo..where you did your post graduate? And what if one wish to pursue to be an surgeon in korea for English speakers? I have done mine undergraduate in Medical school and an currently at residency right now...Thank you in advance
Broadly, it requires successful completion of medical school, successful completion of residency, successful completion of board-certification written and oral examinations, and successful completion of surgical case log in practice.
I really want to become a plastic surgeon, but due to personal issues i can't start my studies until i'm 24.. i would be about 34 years old when i'm done and can finally work. am i too old?
エックス not at all, in fact many people trust "older" people as it indicates more experience (even if you don't really have it) than a really young doctor.. At least where I live its like that.. Plus if you do a good job that would speak for itself it won't matter how old you are. Pursue your dreams

How is the life style of a facial plastic surgeon? Can you compare it to other surgical specialties like ophthalmology? Thank you
In general, ophthalmology and facial plastic surgery have similar lifestyles in that work hours are typically very regular, and there are few, if any, emergencies to disrupt your life outside of work.

Hi @divyabharti9862
I apologize for not seeing this comment until 4 years later. You must be finished with residency by now?
I’m just curious would you do a surgery for someone like the one Xiahn Nishi got
I probably would not unless there was some exceptionally good reason to do it.
What qualifications do you need??
An answer would be very much helpful🙂
Broadly, it requires successful completion of medical school, successful completion of residency, successful completion of board-certification written and oral examinations, and successful completion of surgical case log in practice.

エックス It takes at least 14 years to become a plastic surgeon. You would be like 38 or more.
Nope. I started independent practice at age 35 1/2. Best choice I ever made.
