Kafir from root word KFR, meaning to cover as when the farmer sow the seeds, he covers them.
Kafir is someone who hide his true face, some sort of hypocrite. Let's assume the US is kafir, then how about those "muslims" who makes long and large prayers but who IGNORE those suffering in Refugee camps. and fulfill their promise when they promise,
and patiently persevere in the face of persecution, hardship/stress, and in the time of conflict.
These are the sincere; these are the pious.

The Lady Who Only Spoke From the Qur’an
Once Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak was returning back from hajj when he came across a woman who appeared lost. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak greeted her by saying:
“As salamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.” (Peace and mercy and blessings be upon you)
The pious woman replied back by saying:
“They will receive a greeting of peace from the Most Merciful Lord.” (36:58)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak immediately realised that this was no ordinary woman. He continued by saying, “May Allah’s blessings be upon you! What are you doing here?” He saw that she was all alone and was not accompanied by any mahram. She replied:
“There is no guide for the one whom Allah sends stray.” (7:186)
In other words, she was saying that she had lost her way. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak then asked her, “Where are you coming from?” She replied:
“Pure is that Being Who transported His slave by night from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa.” (17:1)
From this verse, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak understood that she had just returned from hajj and was travelling to Masjid al-Aqsa. He then asked her, “For how long have you remained here?” She replied back by saying:
“For three nights.” (19:10)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak realised that for three whole days and nights she had been in the wilderness of the desert so he asked in astonishment, “But how have you been surviving without no food or drink?”
The pious woman replied back by saying:
“…Who feeds me and gives me drink…” (26:79)
She was referring to Allah in looking after her needs of food and nourishment.
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak then asked her, “If you have no water, how have you been making ablution?” She replied by saying:
“...and you do not find any water, then perform tayammum (dry ablution) with clean soil.” (4:43)
The pious woman was saying that in the event that water was not available, then a person is allowed to perform ablution with clean earth.
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak remembered he had some food with him so he said, “I have food with me, would you like to eat now?” She replied:
“…complete the fasts until nightfall.” (2:187)
In other words, she was fasting. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak then asked her, “But why are you fasting when surely this is not the month of Ramadhan? She replied:
“Whoever performs a good act of his free will, then surely Allah is Most Grateful, All-Knowing.” (2:158)
In the month of Ramadhan, if a person is travelling over a certain distance then they are excused from fasting, so Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak said to the pious woman, “However it has been excused for Muslims not to fast whilst travelling.” She replied:
“It is better for you that you fast, if you but knew.” (2:184)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak noticed that up until this point, the pious woman had only spoken using verses of the Qur’an, so he asked her by saying, “Why do you speak Qur'anic verses only, why do you not speak in my language.”
She replied:
“Whenever a word escapes (a person's mouth), there is a watcher (observer) ready by him.” (50:19)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak had grown curious as to who this woman was, so he asked her, “Which tribe do you come from?” She replied:
“And do not pursue what you have no knowledge about.” (17:36)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak replied, “Please forgive me, yet again I have been proven wrong.” The pious woman replied:
“There shall be no blame on you today.” (12:92)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak then said, “Come ride upon my camel and I shall take you safely to your destination.” The woman replied:
“Allah knows whatever good deed you do.” (2:197)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak signaled the camel to crouch down and then indicated to the woman to mount onto the camel. Before getting onto the camel, the woman said:
“Tell the believing men that they should lower their gazes and guard their chastity.” (24:30)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak moved aside lowering his gaze so that the pious woman could comfortably get on to the camel. Just as she began to mount on the camel, it began to move causing her shawl to slightly fall to which she said:
“…a result of the actions you earn.” (42:30)
Upon seeing this Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak said, “Wait, let me first tie the camel down so that it may remain still for you to mount upon it.”
The woman then said:
“We explained the decision to Sulayman.” (21:79)
This refers to the fact that the prophet Sayyiduna Sulayman understood the language of the birds and the animals. After tying the camel down once again, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak told the pious woman to mount upon the camel. Whilst mounting the camel, she began to praise Allah by saying:
“Pure is Allah, Who has placed this (large animal) at our service whereas we would never have been able to control it.” (43:13)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak whilst holding onto the rope of the camel began reciting naats which caused the camel to move quickly. Seeing this the pious woman said:
“Moderate your walk and lower your voice.” (31:19)
He then changed to reciting the Qur’an which caused the camel to slow down and move at a steady pace. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak then exclaimed, “Allah has granted you with many rewards!” The pious woman in response said:
“None take heed besides men of understanding.” (3:7)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak began to wonder where her family were and so he asked, “Do you have a companion; a husband.” The pious woman replied:
“O you who have iman! Do not ask questions concerning those things that you will dislike when they are made known to you.” (5:101)
After hearing this, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak remained silent until he approached a group of people. He then asked her, “What family do you have amongst this tribe?” The pious woman replied:
“Wealth and sons are merely adornments of this worldly life.” (18:46)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak realised that she had sons within the tribe. He then asked her where she lived. She replied by saying:
“And many landmarks and they are guided by the stars.” (16:16)
Allah has made marks and signposts such as mountains, trees and other land features which enables man to find his way and recognise his location. Here, the pious lady is referring to her children who are the leaders of this group. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak held onto the lead of the camel and began to circulate among the tents asking whether she recognised her tent. When passing one particular tent, the pious woman began to call out:
“Allah chose Ibrahim for a (sincere) friend.” (4:125)
“Allah specially (directly) spoke to Musa.” (4:164)
“O Yahya! Hold fast on to the scripture.” (19:12)
From this, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak concluded that she had three sons, Musa, Yahya and Ibrahim, so raising his voice he began to call them. No sooner had the words left his mouth, three handsome young man came running hearing their names being called. They spoke to Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak and became overjoyed upon seeing their mother. She spoke to her sons saying:
“Send someone to the town with this silver (coin). Let him then see which food is purest so that he can bring you some provisions from there.” (18:19)
Immediately upon hearing this, one of the sons hurried away to return back with some food which he gave to Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak. The pious woman then said:
“Eat and drink with all blessings as a reward for the deeds that you sent ahead during the days gone by.” (69:24)
She then said:
“Can the reward for good be anything but good?” (55:60)
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak became fully aware of this pious women’s piety and great ability, in contemplating that they had gone from the beginning of their journey to the end, and she had not uttered a single word in her own language. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mubarak turned to her sons and said, “I swear not to touch this food until I have been told who this pious woman is!” Her sons immediately responded by saying, “We have no reason not to tell you. She is our mother who has for the last 40 years only spoken from the Qur’an so that on the Day of Judgement, she will not have to answer for any sins committed by her tongue.”
Subhan Allah, the understanding of these people and the fear they had in their hearts regarding accountability that they took every conceivable measure to protect them self from falling into sin.
May Allah make us of those who commit the Qur'an to memory and cause the Qur'an to reside in our hearts forever. Ameen
