@@Bee-it8sx this is the mindset that u anti-America people have. Whenever America goes somewhere, they always say oil as the first and main thing. If America wanted to go there for oil, they could have gone there few years before, since the beginning of the civil war and not wait until the UN to request for it. A civil war broke out in Somalia, militia factions fought against one another for power and control. That war alps destroyed many crops and farms and other places. As a result, famine happened and it caused starvation to thousands and thousands of somalis. An estimated 300,000 somalis died of starvation. International organizations along with the UN responded to the situation. They were there to deliver humanitarian aid to the people. But many times, the supplies were stolen by militias from different factions, especially Aidid's faction, who controlled Mogadishu mostly. They even threaten those aid workers. The UN was powerless to do the things they need to do. So that's when the UN Secretary General requested the UNSC, to do something about the situation. That's where President Bush agreed and authorised operation restore hope, that was commenced on 9th December 1992, where thousands of marines stormed into Mogadishu to secure key locations like airport, seaports etc. Even during there, people like u said they are there for oil. Well those oil are on the northern part of the country and the UN forces were in Mogadishu, which is the southern part. Plus they found no UN or US troops on the northern part.
