Nikki Sixx Discusses New Book "The First 21" & Mötley Crüe With Matt Pinfield on "New & Approved"

- As the bassist, co-founder, and primary songwriter of Mötley Crüe, one of the wildest hard rock bands in history, Nikki Sixx is full of stories. Sixx joined Matt Pinfield on this episode of "New & Approved" to discuss these infamous tales that all led him to where he is now.
Nikki Sixx's new book "The First 21" has just been released and dives deep into his history starting from his childhood. Sixx wrote about his earliest memories including constantly moving to different cities and the internal pain that caused. Throughout the hard times, Sixx relied on writing and became obsessed with words (along with football).
Sixx tells Matt all about his influences especially in glam rock including David Bowie, T-Rex, and Queen, and how his musical passions developed along with his career with Mötley Crüe. We also learn about Sixx's process of creating the prominent basslines as he claims his purpose is to support the songs (that he usually wrote).
Today, Sixx has come a long way as a sober father and family man, but continues to keep his creativity flowing through writing and music.

He does and I love Nikki, but I get tired of these interviewers who have to interject shit that has nothing to do with the guy you are interviewing. This guy acts so starstruck! He always has to tell Nikki how alike they are and he never shuts up. LET NIKKI TALK DAMMIT! I got so sick of him constantly interrupting Nikki, I couldn’t finish the interview. Adam Carolla did the same shit.

I've always been fascinated by people like Nikki sixx or even Neil Peart or other people who were the primary songwriters of the band even though they didn't sing the words or play the guitar chords over them. Did they just come up with the music in their head? Same thing with Lars.
Nikki Sixx comes across as a real sweet man and the interviewer, brings out the best in him. The two gentlemen have got a great rapport! A good interview requires both the interviewer and the interviewee, to be on the same page and this is why i really enjoyed this interview! Thank you! xxxxx

Pinhead is super annoying.
Mötley crüe, like Queen, is one of those bands that you really only need the greatest hits album. Every one of their albums is 50% filler. The only exception maybe would be the first two albums and perhaps the self-titled. Theater of pain, girls girls, Dr feelgood. 50% garbage songwriting.

They were probably written in 5 minutes. Nikki Even admits that a lot of their material during that mid to late'80s period was mailed in.
@@willd4731 Um, yeah, Dancin' On Glass, Use It Or Lose It, City Boy Blues, You're All I Need, Keep Your eye on the Money, etc are not great but they're good. Motley get criticized for writing songs that are just good while a lot of their contemporaries: Ratt, Kiss, Dokken, Twisted Sister, WASP etc wrote just as many, no, MORE crappy songs than Motley.
