We're up on a bluff in NE AL. We got down to 3°F with a wind chill of -18. I had 2 heaters and a heat lamp and Christmas tree lights running in my 10x12 Harbor Freight greenhouse and moved my younger quail into it to try to protect them. My citrus trees came though, but I lost my peppers, tomatoes and some other plants. I've had enough winter weather and am ready for spring to come now.

I think it got down to 29 in my area of central Florida. I gave up on my 2nd summer experiment with cukes, zucchini, yellow squash (harvested 3- used them in stir fry) bok choy (3 kinds of baby variety with small harvest (again for stir fry) but have tomato plants ready to bloom, new okra already putting out blossoms and some peppers that look healthy. I moved all the latter plants into my garage for Christmas wkend. Starting Tues I've been bringing them out to the sunshine on the driveway and hauling them back to garage at dusk. The carrots (2kinds, 1 in pelleted form) did fine with just a sheet thrown over them. Tomorrow it should be high of 80 degrees. I'll cart everything back to their places in my backyard. Guess half my experiment is working, I'm learning a lot.

17 degrees Fri, 21 Sat and 22 Sun here in Charleston. Calling for 26 tonight and by the weekend we may see highs around 70. Covered everything with leaves/pine straw and then covered that with tarps/blankets/sheets. Cabbage is looking rough, not sure they will make it. The few radishes I didn't harvest before the freeze are toast. Collards, carrots, bunching onions, swiss chard, herbs look good. I pulled most of my lettuce beforehand to eat and transplant into buckets and put into the garage. I did leave a few to see what happened. The couple I left exposed are toast, but the couple I totally covered with leaves and a tarp look okay I think.

Here in the Missouri Ozarks we got down to -27 with windchill. The temps were also in the negatives but not sure what since I refused to go outside...lol No greenhouse to worry about but it wouldn't of matter with wind gusts up to 40 mph. I live in what we call a small prairie area, flat, with no trees, and lots of coyotes. We managed with no frozen pipes and all of the animals were warm and had water that wasn't frozen. I live in a small community so we had a phone chain where everyone called or stopped by to see if we were alright. My boss called and was going to bring me coolers full of water if I needed it for the animals. I am truly blessed to live in a small community that cares. I love seed catalogs and I'm not too far from Baker's Creek. I order most of my seeds from MIGardner and occasionally buy from Baker's creek. Seed catalogs get me in trouble, I order way too much, but I order online. The FFA loves it when I over-order because I give them the seeds I don't have room for in exchange I get a discount when they have starters. We all work together to do the best we can.

Well, I am up in Tonawanda N.Y. about 4 miles north of Buffalo N.Y. If you have been watching the news you know how cold we got. A big shout out to Bluetti that kept my boiler going when the power went out. My small EB55 kept my boiler powered up for 11 hours. The power came on after 3 hours but I left the EB55 hooked up all night just to see if it could hold up. 👌👍
4 + feet of snow from all of the drifts. I still have not dug out yet, But luckily I am retired so I don't care if I get out before spring.

We’re in Lagrange, Ga. Got down to 9 degrees with 18 mile an hour winds. Three days of not getting above freezing. Covered raised beds with plastic and ran a heat lamp in some beds which maybe helped rutabaga, collards, strawberries, and carrots. Beets didn’t make it. In the greenhouse we had a heater, 3 heat lamps and two strings of Christmas lights going. Saved lettuce, spinach, beets, parsnips, collards and rutabagas. Swiss chard looks rough and lost the one tomato and pepper plant that was still producing. I also have one corner as a compost pile and a black water barrel in another corner. So happy it’s over!!

For the greenhouse, maybe a few options to try in the future:
Water filled bins, that you place in the greenhouse in the morning. They heat up during the day (could even potentially fill with hot water) and then she’d their heat slower than the air. Can go big like the 275 gallon totes or plastic 55 gallon drums or just pickle buckets.
Small piles of hot (active) compost not unlike what Will Allen used to do in his Green Houses in Milwaukee with 6’ snow drifts built up against. Heat released from the micros in the pile produce heat as long as the temp never falls to low slowing the break down.
Smudge Pots, though the full sized ones would b likely a rather disastrous result inside the green house. This is what I’ve been using and Citrus growers use them down here where I’m at in East Central Fl (and across the state) to help keep everything a few degrees higher by burning anything from diesel to used turkey fryer oil. I ran my the night of Christmas to protect my Mango Trees and they ran 9 hrs and only used two thirds of the used cooking oil I put in the base. You can buy new and place them about 10’ from the green house, but always seeing used ones online and at used sales. There are much smaller versions that act like tiki torches that might do the job. Hard to beat the price (after you’ve bought the pots) of free by using your spent cooking oil!!!
Not sure any of that may work for you, but regardless I always love the videos you put together!!! Keep up the phenomenal work!!!

I know seed catalogs are expensive for the seed companies, but I still prefer to peruse catalogs first and then order online. I also miss the Sears and JC Penney Christmas catalogs too. I guess I'm just old school. We got down to 0°F over the weekend in east TN.

Yeah I have fond memories of thumbing through those JC Penney catalogs as a kid and making a wish list for Santa.

North Florida_Williston, Orange Lake Area~ Friday night it got down to 22'f with 10'f wind chill, Saturday Night down to 23'f with 13'windchill factor, Sunday Night down to 26'f with wind chill 20'F, Monday night which is tonight 12/26 suppose to get down to 31'f with winds light and variable, so far no frost, just hard freezes! Very Unusual, and probably set record breaking temps for so many nights in a row of temps in the low 20's for this area! Watered my Citrus trees real well Thursday night and Piled hay thickly all in at the base and in the branches of my citrus trees then wrapped them like a cocoon with frost cloth, Hopefully the tree will live above the graft, may have to cut back dead wood later and the trees halfway back, but better it's than losing the whole trees! I'll let you know if that worked for me!

Chicago northwest burbs -12 F. I totally think you should journey up to Maine. When was the last time you saw 5 to 6 ft of snow on the ground? 🤣🤣

I've been to Portland, Maine during the summer and it's wonderful. But I think I'll stay down here in the winter. I've never seen more than foot of snow on the ground -- ever.

I love BC & ordered 99% of my seeds from there when I lived in Colorado ( our zones were similar). With moving to Texas I wanted to find more local seeds that is more similar to my climate. I just found Mary's heirloom seeds & I plan on trying them out. Although I'm sure I'll still order a ton from BC.
But no I'm not a catalog person either.

You can cut most of the semi dried pods of okra off and dry them in a dry area inside, just open the pod a little bit to see if the seeds are black or a gray green color which means that they are ready. They will continue to dry on a table or counter. I've done it many times myself.
We got down to about 27 degrees in the Orlando area. That's really cold for us. I do not know how the people in those snow covered places can do that for months at a time. I don't think I'll ever complain about the heat again.

Speak for yourself when it is 90 degrees at 70 percent humidity I am gonna be grumpy. When it gets below 50 I am gonna be grumpy.
Guess I am hard to please.

I’m in Alabama “Roll Tide “ bout 30 from Tuscaloosa and Birmingham right in the middle and it got down to 16 wind chill of -12. I did have the luxury though of moving what plants I have left inside my shop with a oil heater going so they made it ok Enjoy the videos and happy holidays to y’all. Gonna try and get some of your seeds when you post them Thanks
