I live in the UK.. Had a surf board back up and smash my face... I'm quite sure I would have been unconscious if I didn't see my own blood and in my head I heard the cello. Didn't pass out till I swam onto the beach. Duna duna dun dun dun dun.. Lmao

Timo Schmidt what??? How can you say that, you can clearly see the power in its tail when it swerves to the side and hits him, there’s no way that’s a dead shark they’re just pulling with a fishing line or something. They wouldn’t have been able to create that much force with it.
You see, sharks and I have a great understanding of each other. I stay out of their oceans and they stay off my lawn.

If you ever want to jump off your boat into the ocean, always ask yourself one question: Is there a shark in the water?
The answer is always a resounding YES! There is a shark in the water.
Better safe than sorry. There's always that one guy who says.. "oh come on, there are no sharks here. Don't be ridiculous.". I mean, what basis do they have to say that as a fact?! The moment someone says that is always the moment that one would turn up. I mean.. It's jinx etiquette.
Good rule of thumb for me is if I cannot see the bottom I’m probably not going in. Same goes for swimming pools
Maria Mainer that’s true. I suppose my second rule of thumb would be even if its knee-high and clear, with the potential of sharks I would probably stay away. Also, if I were in knee-high clear water and I was about to be attacked I would like to think I can prepare for it. Either imminent doom or to fight back.

The first clip was a close call! My worst nightmare is being in the ocean with poor visibility around me and having a shark coming out of nowhere.

Sharks are famous for attack surfers surfboards! They don't see us as good eating meat and would like choose us last as a dinner option. They like seals which surfboards look like.
Also sharks are very curious creatures like us. They are also one of the most misunderstood animals.

Mick Fanning should be #1. Instead of freaking out he landed a solid punch 👊 to the shark. It was because of this (and his surf board) that he wasn't eaten alive. He's a legend for maintaining composure during the attack, and for going straight back into the water to win another competition like it was nothing. 🙌🇦🇺

Because sharks don't attack people deliberately in most cases. I watched a scientific video where it was explained that sharks attack surfs because they resemble seals that are shark's food (not divers, swimmers and surfers). 'Shark was inch away from swimmers' - sharks are extremely fast, if it would want to attack that swimmer, it would.

They behave in a similar way like bears, or lions (unless you run and then it's over right away), they investigate and seem to be "playful", to find out if they can get a meal without getting injured or investing a lot of energy - and then they eat. xD

My Grandfather was on the U.S.S. Indiannopolis. I never saw him go in the water. Even in a swimming pool. He told me what happened once. Why he would not go in the water. We never talked about it again. I love the ocean. I was an underwater welder for 5 years on oil rigs and have seen some very big sharks. I respect their ocean and respect them.

Years ago, for the first clip in the video, there was a similar case, with a diver's head bitten off by a white shark while diving for abalone. It wasn't until two weeks later that the head was found again and miles away from the spot...
That was so great. They are so beautiful and so terrifying. If you had played more footage of the shark swimming around I would have just stayed glued to my screen. There is something so mesmerizing about them.

I have great respect for sharks and that's why my butt stays out of the ocean.
First clip is probably one of the scariest shark encounters I've ever seen. The way it just pops into existence out of the murky nothingness, and that thing is huge. Scary to think how close it can get without you even being aware of the imminent danger. Stuff of nightmares right there. Fortunately for the diver, the shark was only curious, and hadn't decided yet whether or not he was food. Just a quick bump is all.. could've been way worse.

This video demonizes sharks and it makes me sad... sharks are beautiful creatures who have a right to live in their own environment. Sharks have also been on this earth far longer than we have as a species.
The ocean is a wild environment where humans are out of their element. It’s not a community pool 😒
We have to accept the risks if we’re willing to trespass into another animal’s habitat. Some sharks mistake humans for seals. Some sharks are wounded and can no longer swim quick enough to catch up with their prey...so they look for slower prey as opposed to starving. And some are just curious. Since sharks don’t have hands, they explore ocean with their mouths. Unfortunately a test bite could do some serious damage to us. But that’s because we aren’t adapted to compete with animals of the sea on our own. We’re (surprise!) adapted to living on land. Sharks are not these evil and demonic creatures that a lot of people believe them to be. (The media and popularity on thriller shark movies don’t help either)They’re graceful, but keep in mind, WILD untamed animals.

Honestly they are gentle creatures unless you piss them off. Most shark attacks are from behind due to accidental kicks when swimming near them. And on top of that they react to vibrations so if you were to encounter one it would be best to move slowly

I was on the beach in Jeffrey's Bay when Mick Fanning had his brush with death. It was insane - we saw the huge fin and the first impact and then a wave lifted in front of them and we saw nothing for a few seconds. It felt like an hour - everyone was standing there with their hands to their mouths, holding their breath. And then we saw this hand stick up from behind the wave...wow, it was so scary. Then he got hit from the other side and his surfboard just happened to be in the way. Those rescue guys were incredible. And Mick Fanning really was lucky that day. The competition was cancelled in the final heat, it is a day I will never forget.

thank you for including such a wonderful clip with the Great White! it's beautiful, I love the white patch on the tail. Also, watch the behaviour of the fish swarming the shark, they scrape their sides over the shark's skin. I think they're removing parasites/fungus/exfoliating. Really interesting to watch. Anyone know what the fish are? some sort of baitfish that would attract medium predators like small sharks, marlin or seals/sealions. Hence why the Great White is in those waters.

@Fredo Capone420 Crocodiles are more dangerous than sharks.. Shark's attack when hungry or feel threatened or if you're bleeding for e.g... Crocs will attack just for being close to their territory and especially Nile crocs.. they'll snap a human in half with 1 bite... Plus crocs will make sure youre dead before leaving as they'll rip you into chunks as well as other crocs will most likely come rushing over and forcefully join in... Plus sharks will just bite and crocs will Deathroll

The one with the diver and the shark swimming up was crazy!
Actually while scuba diving in the Red Sea south of Jeddah I encoutered 3 silky sharks. I went up from 100 ' to 15 ' and counted the minutes. These sharks were about 8 ' long and followed me up. I held onto the anchor line doing my stop, and that's when they really got close and started circleing me and another diver. The sharks got closer and closer and I was getting low on air. The reason, pure fear which no matter what I did I couldn't control. But I tried and got up to the boat ok. What a feeling. It was scarier than being in a fire fight, maybe worse. Never the less, it was just another day of excitment out on the water. If you happen to encounter a shark try to stay cool and get the hell out of the water as quick as possible. Good Luck Swimmers.
Next time take a machine gun under water in case a shark try to attack you

Yes but your time isn't divided equally around both. If I spend thirty days swimming in open water and thirty days walking around a tropical island I am far more likely to be bitten by a shark than I am to have a coconut murder me. That's a bad statistic. So is the air plane one, I only fly every few years, if I flew on a plane the same amount I drove in a car, I'd probably have been in or witnessed a crash or something bad.
