Paika Bidroha, also known as the Paika Rebellion, was an armed uprising against British colonial rule that took place in Odisha, India in 1817. The rebellion was led by the Paikas, who were essentially peasant militias that had been recruited by the local kings to serve as their armies.
The Paika Bidroha was triggered by several factors, including the economic exploitation of the Paikas by the British East India Company, the imposition of heavy taxes, and the general discontent among the local population. The rebellion was marked by fierce fighting between the Paikas and the British forces, and it continued for several months before being finally suppressed.
