The kick in the butt for good luck seems to fit. I heard that the phrase "break a leg" is used becuase you want the opposite thing to happen. So "good luck" would bring bad luck too someone and "break a leg" will lead to a good result. So your mom kicking your butt on the way out is similar to this. She does something "bad" so that your good luck will be more active
Break a leg is actually a theater thing, because being selected to play a role is called being 'cast' and when you break a leg you get a cast on your leg. It's a pun
@@ldyvaporeon9944 Yea the leg thing is a theater thing but it's not cause of you breaking a leg. There is this on stage called a leg and if I remember correctly, it is used to pull the curtains up and down. So when a cast gets encored often where the curtain gets pulled up and down, it can pretty much break the leg.
From what I was taught “break a leg” wasn’t actually to do with anything breaking. In the past some members of cast (maybe understudies? I forget who) would only be paid if they went onstage. As someone else said, a leg is a part of the scenery in a theatre. The saying came from wanting to go past (break) the leg, in order to be paid.
Iskall, I watched the VOD yesterday and I was laughing so hard in some places I couldn’t breathe. Your decision to keep it real this season is paying off especially with the behind the scenes footage you’re getting. You’re going to show up in so many hermits episodes that their fans who don’t know you well or have some pre-conceived bias will for sure get curious and come check you out. You like your small community on twitch but it’s going to get bigger and bigger this season. ❤
In Poland also it is a "bad omen" to saying "thank you" when someone said good luck to you. And this "butt kick" for good luck we also have here in Poland :) (No one really believes in this, tho)
I’m loving season 10 so far. Iskall hermitcraft 10 streams are the best. Candid and hilarious with infectious laughter. I love how Iskall is just walking into their traps and surviving to rub it in the hermits faces
3 weeks late BUT... the kick in the butt is a Finnish thing at the very least! You don't see people physically doing it super often outside certain areas, but the Finnish expression for an instance of good luck is "onnenpotku" which directly translates to "luck's kick" or "lucky kick"
I remember hearing somewhere that cussing to one another or joking physical harm to one another like the kicking your butt thing is based on a superstition that the first thing the devil sees when you leave home is you being harmed by your family, and as a result the devil leaves because someone else with a better life/relationships needs more of the devil's intervention than someone being "abused" by their parents
As previously said by other commenters it is the thought (mainly in the theatre world) that saying “good luck” will jinx it and bring bad luck but saying a specific negative sounding thing will bring good luck by a “reverse jinx”. Now to add something myself, the negative thing said bears the same meaning of bringing good luck but it just a language difference between the expressions “break a leg” and ”spark i baken”. I believe that the Swedish expression came from a tradition of actors getting a kick in the behind before going up on stage and morphing into a thing you say instead. Anyhow, considering the repercussions of preforming the actions mentioned in the expression, the Swedish one has a higher acceptability than the English one.
Hey iskall, love the series so far.. that first episode had me creasing a lot🤣. I saw your idea for this video and the talk with etho that you had on your behind the scenes and wanted to make you a suggestion. I thought it would be great for you to make a tournament for all the hermits who wished to participate regards to like best builder award for S10 or something like that. The tournament would consist of hermits who signed up themselves, who will each get to build a floor on top of each other which would end with a big tower. For example, you can have each hermit given a week to build a floor within a radius that you would like and maybe at the end of the week you can have like a voting system for the hermit to be rated on different categories such as outside design, interior design, usefulness of the floor and other stuff. I think it would be a great competition to meet all the hermits and show off their abilities plus a fun event. Also you may or may not get a free base for the rest of the season👀. MORE IDEAS: You can also have registration rewards first, for example if a hermit signs up for this event they gain access to your skeleton farm for free from just participating but at the end each place gets a different reward such as access to your other farms that you will make in the future or simply diamonds with like a custom made trophy. This is just a small idea I had if you wish to use it or expand on it more, I’m just happy to have a new season of hermicraft to follow with you! Best of wishes!
When you say thank you, it's like you're taking it for granted instead of it being a wish for luck. It's like making a demand of someone vs asking nicely but the person is Fate. It's exactly like how you felt when they asked you "Whats the gift"
Mother, lightly touching youngskall with the side of foot: Iskall do good on your exam today Iskall, his eyes enormous: you KICK Iskall? you kick his body like the football? oh! oh! jail for mother! jail for mother for One Thousand Years!!!!
I am absolutely paraphrasing most of what I know, or understand about the subject, but I wouldn't say your mom was being mean just because of those light little butt-kicks. It does actually line up with the more historically accurate treatment of "Luck" as a concept. 'Luck' is an old pagan belief. One that naturally resonates with enough people to be adopted by pretty much everyone as a thing everyone has in common, since the idea of it is easy enough to explain: a good turn of 'luck' is when something nice happens, and a bad one when something you might find unfair, or terrible takes place instead. The stage saying "break a leg" is naturally targeting the contrarian sides of creatures, and spirits of misfortune described in those old pagan beliefs, saying the opposite of what you actually mean makes them less interested in you despite you maybe feeling a little nervous about how things may go. (Someone being nervous is the most tempting bait for them otherwise!) So as much as many people might not have heard about the things like birthday spankings (misconstruing it with more a lewd attitude these days), or in the case of your mom's butt kicks, the whole idea is that you're trying to make the "victim" of these things less tempting to target for really bad luck with evil beings. It may sound silly to someone who's never heard of it, but the butt kicks were literally just a form of superstitious protection. (And maybe some amount of gratification if you were giving her backtalk about something earlier. Who knows? 😂)
@@vodskall85 I mean yeah, you see it... But still fail the water bucket tho... If that wool is 1 or 2 block lower, even that notch apple you prepared in the hotbar wont save you 🤣 Carefull iskall, that is not the 1st fail...
hallo! 2 more Hermitcraft videos today! The last one is super funny xD
Awesome!

The thing is when you normally say break a leg you don’t actually mean it and do it

"Hallo Iksall" definitely hermit in blood
This is why you don't use a shield when you bucket clutch because if your not frame perfect you hold your shield up instead of placing the water down
"good luck" is a bad omen in the theater. that's why they always say "break a leg" instead
This has rapidly become my favorite mini-series
It turned out so perfect this was the only part of steam I had to miss because of lunch

Butt kick is another way to say Good luck in some place!
