    Nestlé's switch to paper straws is probablaly also just due to the EU restrictions on certain single-use plastics. Compling with current EU laws is nothing to be proud of and certainly isn't a sign that they make any special efforts in saving the environment. So yeah, hello greenwashing :)

    I'm absolutely willing to believe that a flight on a low cost flight where people are packed like sardines in the thinnest lightest seats that could pass a safety check, are only allowed to carry a 11.5x16.5cm bumbag as luggage, and pay 20% of the cost of the flight for a pack of peanuts, would have a much lower carbon footprint than a flight filled with first class seats and personal tvs. Not sure that that was the angle they were going for, but hey, it's like the people who say cheap cat food is more eco-friendly because they use only the rejected byproducts of the human food industry! Not untrue, but maybe not the selling point they think it is!

    Excellent video, Gittemary. I didn’t know that domestic flights were lumped into a countries miscellaneous carbon percentage. Canada is huge and a flight from Halifax to Vancouver takes eight hours or so non stop. In order to see my adult children I have to fly either 6 hours or drive for five days ( with time to eat, sleep and gas the car). I haven’t seen them since 2019. And now I’m learning that since it’s a domestic flight it is t even counted? Madness.

I'm vegan, but buying the eventual big corporation "vegan" product is very tempting, and I believe that these companies only make changes when driven by money, so if I don't buy from them untill there is a real change on their environment effords (among other consumers of course) that's how they see a risk of income...

    Nestle was one of the first corporations i learned about. When i was young my mum was big on teaching me about consumerism and slave labour, i didn't really appreciate it back then. But then when I got on the interwebs as an adult I learned about Nestle. I find it mostly unavoidable to avoid a lot of these things when shopping in my country EVERYTHING is made in China, expensive things, cheap things, literally EVERYTHING. So buying local where things can be legislated in terms of Australian values is almost impossible. They have destroyed local manufacturing and At this point they are targeting our farmers and food growers. Here they tax us for water that falls as rain onto our own properties, this includes tank water that you collected from your roof and damn water. Meanwhile the Chinese cotton farms have destroyed one of our main water systems in the Murrey Darling Basin by completely draining it from water that local farmers aren't allowed to have access to. They still blame the local farmers but when you see who has the largest area of land and the biggest dams on that land, it's not the local food growers. They claim this is all 'environmentalism bigot'.

    Meat free options are less environmentally conscious as they are based on soy monocrops that take tons of pesticides, reduce biodiversity, take lots of processing (this takes water, energy, fuel to bring things from farm to plant and plant to store etc etc). Locally sourced ethically raised animal products are much better for the environment than animal product replacements...not to mention that they are more nutritious in smaller amounts and do not support multinational companies that do not care about sustainability at all

    • @Gittemary
      @Gittemary  2 года назад +1

      So, it seems like your generalising a fair bit here, the quality, nutritional value, and impact of meat substitutes can vary a lot depending on the ingredients, some of them definitely being healthier and more sustainable than others. So calling all meat substitutes for greenwashing is incorrect. Some of my favourites are made with locally grown peas, and that is one of the lowest impact foods there are. Today the vast majority of meat comes from factory farming (90+%), so that is the meat that is often being substituted, and meat-free products (even the ones made from soy) are a lot less impactful than factory farming. I recommend you check out the video I made on the impact of soy 😃

    I have a question. In the USA our president wants all of us to buy electric vehicles. We have a small car that gets good gas mileage. We have one vehicle and it's paid off. In California where we have a lot of black outs because of people over using the electric. Is it better for us to keep the vehicle that we have paid off or get rid of it for an electric vehicle? Thank you for your videos.....

    • @Ineverusemychannel
      @Ineverusemychannel Год назад

      IMO keep your vehicle and maintain its good condition for as long as you can. Electric cars may be good in that they don’t use gas but that doesn’t erase the byproducts of their production nor the effects of wasting items that are in good condition. Especially if you don’t feel the new item will be as reliable at the moment. When the condition of your car is worsened to the point of needing new, do what is within your means to get a more efficient one. I think the US is unique due to its car dependency - both natural and imposed. The perfect answer would be “try not to use the car” but we know that isn’t possible for the majority of the country. Just do your best and consider how your vote can change car dependency as a whole.

    • @user-sn7gb5cy2j
      @user-sn7gb5cy2j 2 месяца назад

      I think a lot of the black outs in California are planned to avoid wildfires during high risk periods. Many fires were caused by electric wires running through high risk areas. They need to upgrade the transmission lines to stop these blackouts.

    I like that you point out these things but nestle is doing way more for a big company then any other big company of its size. Using paper straws is a huge deal when it’s millions of them being thrown out lol and using paper packing is also great because against its millions of packages being thrown out and they are looking at reducing plastic for other products so it’s not greenwashing and I think you are nitpicking quite a bit with this one and sometimes it’s these small changes which this isn’t that small of a change because again millions of products equals a ton of waste and if it can be recycled and actually turned into something else unlike most plastic or degrade in nature like paper can then I’m for it but nestle is actually changing their products to be more sustainable unlike Coca-Cola which going to plant based plastic is doing nothing good while nestle going to paper or tins to be refilled or reused and we should be praising that in a sort of way and not saying screw you you aren’t doing good enough even though you are changing a ton of products and doing research on how to make this work for millions of people in hundreds of countries. They are trying to fix a horrible problem with plastic pollution and I don’t think saying they are green washing because they want to remove millions of plastic straws from their products is a good thing and it turns people off because from my point of view what you are saying is no matter how much a company says and does about how much they are trying and are doing to reduce waste it’s not good enough and I understand they are a huge corporation but it takes time and research and development. it’s not an overnight solution to a problem that’s been going on for a very very long time. I love your channel but I think you are completely wrong here.
