    " It is the nature of news not to report the norm but the abnormal. News reports the unusual. News reports the thing that never happens because it happened today " wise words. thank you for your perspective

      On the other hand, one place I lived had so much crime that the news barely reported it. The norm was crime. So, while that bolsters the idea that the news reports only the abnormal, it was definitely not helpful to one who had to live in such a place. So how do we find out when that's the case before we move somewhere?

    great video. I have been a solo woman traveler going around the US for the past 8 months and now I am getting ready to go to Mexico (I am spending a few months trying to learn some basic Spanish). I am with you. As long as I don't do anything stupid I will be fine. It has worked for me in the other 42 countries I have been to, too.

    Nice video. My truck was stolen at a grocery store in Portland, Or. The police said it’s not a priority crime there, even though there are *thousands* reported each year. I had multiple break-ins & vandalism over my duration of living there. I’ve been residing in N. California for 15 yrs. now and have not encountered one single incident to date.

    Nice scenery out of the windows. Security in any foreign country depends where you are and its a matter of state of mind and aware of your surroundings. In Mexico is like any other peaceful country. We have areas in this country that is like a war zone so that's all im going to say. Take care and enjoy yourself JC

      After traveling half the world twice I knew I never wanted to travel ever again, I married this wonderful man and later when our daughter was having her first baby, I had this fear overwhelm me from driving and leaving California to Colorado. My husband told me to look at it like an adventure, and a new and exciting life. I did! It worked. We stayed a month, and I really enjoyed it, and our new granddaughter. I can go anywhere now with this new attitude and live. Just sharing

    My own dad was deported in May 2016 and my kids dad (husband)was deported after in sep 2016. And I just went to Mexico for the first time Juarez chihuahua and Nuevo casas grande Chihuahua Dec 2018 so it’s been like two years since I’ve seen them. So many emotions traveling to Mexico but I was so excited I fell in love with Mexico. My kids dad was just 23 years old he was so upset till this day he goes through depression I think the way he was deported but he met the best people there he met great friends. I had the chance to meet them and WOW I was just amazed how Mexicans work so much 12+ hrs and after work had so much energy to go visit family and friends everyday. The day goes by slow but beautiful. Different VIBE. On my way back to the USA I was so depressed. For a lot of reason I haven’t moved to Mexico but your video has convinced me. Mexico is beautiful and I wanna be happy. I’ve been so overwhelmed here just working . My children are a part of me so all I have in the USA is a job. I wanna save up and move 🙂 I’m ready to be a lil free haha

    My mom used to always say, "Locks are for honest people" Thieves can and will find a way if they are determined, so it is in your mind. Heard of Compton, Ca? I'm very safe here...gangs don't even mark up walls as much because the main problem is in prison, jail or dead, so times change, but people have this "perception" factor that they feel proud of...bad guys everywhere. Yesterday someone broke the window on our Fiat while my wife was in church, I'm replacing the glass myself. Used to do car glass repair in Seattle, WN decades ago. Still save labor servicing our family's transportation....crap happens...you keep your mind free from fear and anxiety and he tells such interesting stories....so essentially he is correct here, no matter where you go, even Afghanistan, if you feel OK, you most likely are, but the truth is, death will find you, me anyone, if it's our time to leave this plane and live spiritually with God. He's my Hedge of Protection. 24/7/365 and for Eternity. But my home has bars, just for their protection, because if I find you entering by force and you're not law enforcement, you'll be glad to see them when I'm done catching you. But I don't want any trouble...nor does anyone with common sense and reason. Anything built can be compromised. Talk to those who serve our nation as soldiers and on their return, here, were blessed. Outside our borders on foreign soil, if you feel secure, then you are. If you don't God bless anyway...

      I live in Hermosillo, I'm Mexican haha, this city is good for Americans in my opinion since I found that the lifestyle is similar to the lifestyle of Phoenix (chain restaurants, nightlife, social life, etc). I find my city as a good place to adapt to Mexico in a slower way, many people speaks English, we have bilingual schools, for universities English is a requirement at the end of any career (we have 27 Universities which 8 are public). The economy of the city is growing and really fast. We have three private hospitals in Hermosillo where some of it's workers speak English: Clinica del Noroeste, Hospital San José, Hospital CIMA.

    Greetings from Kentucky. Thanks for sharing your thoughts; it's a pleasure listening to ya. I know what you're saying about feeling safe vs being secure. I used to work in the safe lock industry on safe locks, security doors keying matters and so on. I was honored to work for both of Harry Miller's sons during that time(good people) and became fascinated with all the antique locks created by Mr Miller (many now located in the museum in Lockmasters) Though I left that chapter of my life to become a professional Welder, I never lost interest of locks, safes, security means and such - It'd be great to see a video of the antique padlock collection you spoke of. Thanks again Sir, you & yours be well.

    • @JCTravelStories
      @JCTravelStories  6 лет назад +1

      I have some Miller padlocks in my collection. I have pictures of most of my locks and used to have a website for them. The website got lost when AOL shut down free websites.

    • @dougsie8791
      @dougsie8791 6 лет назад

      That's great that you have them. Funny thing about locks is as you work with so many different ones you gain quite a few little tricky tidbits on how to defeat them; that always intrigued me. Once to a point that I was determined to design a working prototype and get it patented...to only have that idea crushed when I'd either introduce it to an old timer locksmith and watch as he'd explain how it can be defeated or he'd just say it's been done so i gave up. I'm still amazed by the interesting simplicity or the plain common sense of the older locks. With all the technology, One day the mechanical type locks and the knowledge involved with their construction will be lost to all except for a few that appreciated the magic inside. Thanks again.

    I am a fairly recent subscriber and love your content and stories thus I started taking a little time to dig around and watch some of your older videos as I slowly catch up on what I have missed.
    This little session on safety and security hits the nail right on the head and it makes me wish you had millions of subscribers so that far more people could see and hear what you had to say on these topics.
    Today (Oct 2018) many Americans talk incessantly about fears and insecurities but I think the fears of a national EMP event appear to dominate the local discussions, at least in my experience. So many people are talking about becoming preppers and moving out to the boonies 50 to 100 miles from any sizable cities and constructing an underground bunker so they can hole up inside of it until all the trouble has passed them by or so they hope anyway.
    I am not one to judge others but for my own purposes, if I felt such a situation was very likely, I would simply renew my passport and get a visa and head for central Mexico or elsewhere now rather than turn myself into a tunnel rat fooling myself into believing I was totally secure from the worst that might become of society. The reality is that life is risky but also wonderful. The other reality is that if we just keep our wits about us and don't do anything stupid, we are very likely to get through life just fine despite reading occasionally about some poor soul who was not so lucky. Thanks for doing what you do and keeping your head screwed on properly and sharing your thoughts with others. :-)

    Greetings from Newberg, and thanks for sharing such delightful information. Indeed, the state-of-mind is anywhere or anything the person makes it to be. Unfortunately the media is in the business of selling instability thus influencing a negative state-of-minds; however, awareness is also important-and you sir-help stabilize my mind.

    Wow What a beautiful home! Thank you for the video. We just bought land two years ago just north of Todos Santos area. Wild bush and have not done anything yet even put up a fence. We have very few neighbors and only two have started building their homes but they do have fence which is barbwire and posts, nothing elaborate. We will be doing something i hope this year but probably just the same as the others for we plan on keeping the land for a RV location with pads and possible electric and water further in the future. So this gives me something to think about but honestly we are so far from getting electric and water in the area that i think a simple fence just to say this property(land ) is owned will be sufficient and that is all. Thanks again and have been enjoying your videos and giving me great information form someone who actually lives there.

      Don't know what your plans are or how far away utilities are from your land, but I stay for months boondocking in my RV. Lots cheaper to solar power an RV than to run electric to a property. :)

    Good post. Very true. What you are feeling about where you are and who you are plays a huge part in what happens to you. If you aren't comfortable in your surroundings, go somewhere else. We all drive our circumstances by how we feel.

(You had me laughing when you told your friend his with the gate, that he build a nice 'ladder' LOL! Also, the potatoe/hotel safe. Also, interesting the stun gun stunned your arm for a week).

    I live in a small rural town in the US. There are ( at least) 3 drug operations on my block. I sleep peacefully with my 9mm next to my bed and 2 little dog alarms. I did stop updating the kids on neighborhood events, though. Lol

      I once took a self defense course and one instructor who is used as a witness in criminal court cases said the best defense is a small dog. Congrats on your "alarms". :) He did say he feels guns are a problem because you can sometimes still go to prison for killing someone in self defense. It's true. Even in states with Hold Your Ground, laws. :-/

    Hahahaha I really loved this video. I was listening to it on my way home and when you said “I’m not going to form my analysis of the security risk in Mexico based upon what happened outside of a bar in Tijuana.” Had me laughing so hard I almost spit my water out on the dashboard of my truck. The way I see it, if you don’t get mugged outside of a bar in Tijuana Mexico. You didn’t get the true experience of TJ! Lol
    As far as the media is concerned. I think it’s a bunch of bs every news network spouts out all the same nonsense propaganda. Personally I think it’s a mind control machine trying to manipulate the way people live and think. I don’t watch the news at my house. I check the weather on my “Weather Channel” application on my phone and that’s about the extent of the news I see. There’s crime in every part of the world. You wouldn’t catch me buying a property smack dab in the middle of south central Los Angeles and the same would be true for Mexico. I wouldn’t retire in Juarez or TJ or certain areas of Sinaloa (although that is wear my father is from) If we didn’t have such a thirst for illegal drugs in the USA, Mexico wouldn’t have the violent drug cartels that they do today.

    Beautiful view out your windows! I agree on having a normal life first starts with being normal and staying out of trouble for the majority of people. Some tend to attract what they are, or become what they attract then end up in jail or dead. Most that keep their nose clean and stay out of trouble and don't hang out with people that do much against the law and or drugs. They don't get involved in dangerous life styles as such. So i agree with your mind set. That is how I think and live too. I don't drink or do drugs. Never have been a follower.
    Great video, educational.

    fellow Oregonian here living in Lincoln City thinking about relocating somewhere more affordable. we just watched Narcos: Mexico on netflix. needless to say it has colored my feelings about Guadalajara. if you have not seen it, probably best not to.

    • @JCTravelStories
      @JCTravelStories  5 лет назад

      I smelled the death when 19 butchered narcos were found in a van under the Millennium Arches in Guadalajara as I drove past. Those movies and the news reports are real, but they don't reflect daily life in Guadalajara any more than a documentary about school shootings would define the experience of going to high school in the US, or the Las Vegas massacre would reflect the character of visiting Las Vegas.

    But if several thousand volts were run through the hurricane fence, well that would help, till the power outage of course.
