I buy my glue from richelieu.com by liongrip which is their own brand. Its commercial glue and not cheap retail and yet I pay around 53$ for 5 gallon my friend;)
Ben, thanks for showing all of us this technique. For all those saying it looks uncomfortable, I'm not sure that comfort was the end goal for this video. Per the description, "...possible to use inexpensive materials... make curved and hi end looking furniture". Personally, I'd very much enjoy lounging in this chair. Keep up the great work, Ben!
My expectations are high for design when I visit your channel. Once again, not disappointed. Looks comfortable too. Awesome! The Uyeda Chair. Getting an ErogKiwi too. Thanks, Ben!
For the final (outermost) layer, I would use wacky wood. it's flexible enough on its own that you wouldn't need to do any kerf cuts. This would give a much nicer "finished" look (i.e. no visible kerf marks).
Really cool chair! Very creative. Just a suggestion for comfort and decor. Maybe add a small pillow with Velcro straps as a cushion for your head/neck.
I thought a headrest would be good, but Velcro strips on the wood would look tacky.; How about a "pillow" in two halves, one side padded, the other just fabric, that would fit over the top of the chair like a hat.?
To obtain smother curves use a long thin piece of wood as a ruler. Just like the boatbuilders on the loft. Make the plywood and the space between the mdf, 2 inches wider and nail the plywood to the MDF at the edges. Forget about the opposing MDF. When the glue&plywood is Ok, cut it 1 inch from the edge. Sand the edge and you are done.
Nice work, looks great. Your local clamp seller was happy you made this chair. My only critique is the feet. Would have loved to see the edges cut so they sit flat on the ground. I just see that edge chipping and breaking eventually.
All this chair needs is a cool paint job with bright colors or a amazing artwork that wouldn’t take away from the chair unique shape but only add to this amazing design and just make it pop or more eye catching.
Shawna ! Just my opinion but I think that would ruin the look, I just think the modern sleek look goes much better with bare wood instead of a flashy paint job
There is such a thing as 1/8" bending plywood and "wacky wood" both in 4x8 and 8x4. When I use wacky wood I put a layer of 1/8" ply or veneer on top to make a finished look, they save a ton of time.
Might be worth mentioning that MDF is basically soft and hardwood sawdust bonded together with a formaldehyde based adhesive. Formaldehyde is carcinogenic and so avoid breathing in the dust particles. Cut outside if possible and wear a dust mask. Great engineering and very interesting video though. Might even give it a go myself..
Ben - how heavy was the chair? As a wheelchair user, I've thought for a long time that plywood used in this way would be a great low cost method of providing lightweight wheelchairs in countries where more expensive options weren't available.
That’s a great idea! A quick search didn’t really come up with anything. If you’re interested in seeing something like that happen contact a local college with an industrial design program. It would make a great senior project. In the meantime, I did find a cool 3D printed concept.... www.behance.net/gallery/37333125/GO?tracking_source=search%7CPlywood%20wheelchair
Nice end result, looks great and pretty simple. But for your own good, please wear a mask when cutting MDF. This wood may be cheap but you don't want to be cheap with respiratory protection when cutting this stuff
Such a cool looking chair. It’s awesome to see something so cool come using simple tools and materials too (as if that’s not most of your projects, but always appreciated)
It's good for a prototype maybe, and I like the techniques in a way, but I think the initial template needed the curves to be a lot smoother and finished, then you've got kerf bending, which I think just doesn't produce a nice finished look on furniture, especially something that's not painted and where you can see the edges really obviously. In the end, you've got an 'art' piece of furniture but without the quality of finish needed to make it an 'art' piece of furniture. It looks 'high end' from a distance...
Loved this video. I have not done kerf bending yet, though i want to give it a go with plywood and timber (pine) too. It was great to see how you worked with the formers too. Thanks.

The King of Winging It!! That came out really awesome!!
Everything is clear there without words. And he talks non-stop. It is necessary to watch without sound))
I love working with plywood. You can endlessly make things with it. in any shape. Thanks for sharing. i love this project.
I agree!
Such a unique build. I appreciate all the work you put into it. Looks so good.

Sean Palmer or at least flip the final piece so the kerfs were on the inside of the lamination
Cool project, good job explaining directions too. You’re one of the few channels I’ve seen that explains every detail of what you did.
Its cool that you're doing Kerfing and Mike is doing steam bending. gives us the chance to see different techniques.
Really cool chair! Very creative. Just a suggestion for comfort and decor. Maybe add a small pillow with Velcro straps as a cushion for your head/neck.

Turned out cool! I really like how you iterated with the mold as you went, eliminating the pinch points.
thanks Bruce! yeah I prefer just adjusting as I go rather than trying to predict what will work before hand
I really like your chair. I honestly didn't understand the forms you were making until you used them. Very cool and efficient design.
To obtain smother curves use a long thin piece of wood as a ruler. Just like the boatbuilders on the loft. hi, by opposing mdf you mean one of the mdf sides?
Nice work, looks great. Your local clamp seller was happy you made this chair. My only critique is the feet. Would have loved to see the edges cut so they sit flat on the ground. I just see that edge chipping and breaking eventually.

Dylan Thomas Hi and yea I totally agree maybe adding color or designs might destroy the look you were going for.
Your sense of esthetics dude. Amazing feel for beauty.
There is such a thing as 1/8" bending plywood and "wacky wood" both in 4x8 and 8x4. When I use wacky wood I put a layer of 1/8" ply or veneer on top to make a finished look, they save a ton of time.
The opening in the chair would be great for newspapers and periodicals, or even a rolled up throw blanket.
5:04 I've heard of some people using salt sprinkled between the layers to create grip between the layers ... but I've never done this myself.
VERY NICE WORK
Классно 👍👍👍
11:30....haha...YUUUUUUP!!
Great ending to a great vid...many thanks !
I love your job. Excellent project and execution. Congratulations. big hug from Argentina

Very nicely put together. I like your use of blocks on the molds to clamp your piece. Well done.
Super cool!
Amazing Project
I finally understand what the gap in the middle is for, although I prefer cognac
2 much work and 2 easy to mess things up. Good work.
This mic on the left at the start and end of video... Eurk.
Best chair in any case!

like the chair, simple and looks comfy
Beautiful project thanks for sharing
Waou j'adore ! Quel boulot ! Bravo super idée !
dude, that looks so cool!!
I’d like to do something similar for a sim racer setup thanks for posting!!
Your woodworking project room is nicer than my living room.
Nice end result, looks great and pretty simple. But for your own good, please wear a mask when cutting MDF. This wood may be cheap but you don't want to be cheap with respiratory protection when cutting this stuff
Awesome creations.
so great design👍👍👍
thank you!
Amazing, love it
beautiful
To avoid movement in the glue joints; sprinkle some table salt on.. works as sand on ice.
Briliant job! how many layers of 3mm plywood did you use? what was final thickness
Классная задумка и такая же реализация.
Such a cool looking chair. It’s awesome to see something so cool come using simple tools and materials too (as if that’s not most of your projects, but always appreciated)
Great team work. Very nice
Simple. Elegant. Thanks! I really like it.
I would love to see a concrete version of that chair
OMG, that could be interesting, and too heavy hahaha
@@franciscoortega9508 ..and very healthy for your kidneys.
@@PetruzzioPonti really?
@@franciscoortega9508 just kidding
@@PetruzzioPonti lol
You made a full-scale template from 2x4's and MDF... but taking into account the thickness of the plywood "would be too much work" lol.
_ David _ laying down the law
Have you seen his work. Its half assed
The thickness changes throughout the lamination process anyways
Absolutely my fav.!!!!
nice technique .............
My left ear really enjoyed the monologue at the end.

Great work. Have you thought of cutting the 'legs' so that they would fall parallel to the floor? My OCD side is coming out here
Vacuum bags would have come in really handy!
yes! I am intrigued by them!
Wow. A thing of beauty.
This is very doable, nice technique and love the design.
beautiful design, nice video
This is a mission accomplished, well done!🤩🤩
thank you! this is one of my favorites
Отличная работа !
troubles opening up that bottle ... congrats and good job
So helpful! Thanks for posting
Rewarding once you done making it.
For some reason, this chair looks great for a GT style sim racing rig
truly very nice result yet too complicated for anyone to DIY
Very cool!
Insane work
Lumber yards are better than Home Depot. Good video.
Have you tried orienting the faces of the plywood so that the kerf cuts are not facing outside? or does that make the wood structure weaker?
Dude is fiiiiine.
Great job, bro! (and Sis)!
Thank you recommending this app btw its just what I was looking for to boost my business. 😭👏🏾👌🏾😊
SPECTACULAR
Great job looks cool
that glue if it gets damp or wet from water just comes apart should of used resin mix and it would make it very strong
Крутая и кропотливая работа 👍👍👍
It looks great. I've got a few ideas for the challenge. I'm gonna start of with a very simple one tomorrow.
Useful and aesthetic
Ben is all about making lounge chairs...never disappointed in the designs.
Wow awesome 👏
Woah!!! 🤩🤩
I'll support all your contours...
Add salt in between the layers of wood, when gluing, to keep them from slipping. The salt will bite in once you clamp it together.
thats a lot of work for a fairly good looking chair
perfect
Dope project dude, love the chair... Please, please wear a mask when working MDF. The risk to later life respiration issues simply is not worth it.
Would it help the overall structural integrity of the chair if you added some bolts countersunk into the wood?
Ah,..e. Tequila! I love this project. Nice build Mister.
Awesome work Ben, beautiful chair! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
great !!! thanks for this video
This is awesome if you have an arsenal of clamps!! i think i have two so it would cost a fortune for me to buy clamps to do this chair.
Wonderful creativity 💪💪💪
I'm going to try that with red carbon fiber and epoxy .
Pretty sweet
YUM!!!!!!
Great project! Thanks for the video and for the diy app recommendation!
love the built and cup of coffee at the end ! :-)
