your videos are WAY better than most of the books out there. i went from being intemidated by all this, to being comfortable enough to build customer stuff. ive now moved onto learning about 4l80e. thank you!
Videos are great, keep them coming. Can you show the procedure you use to remove the case pin to install the case saver center support. I have a case the pin just doesn’t seem to want to move. Got scared And was afraid I was going to break the case. Thanks!
Shawn wondered if you know if they make an intermediate pressure plate with a lug out for the case saver used with a front band. (since I'm 4x4 and need the 2nd gear braking) Thanks Keith
@@mountainsgaragethank you I figured as much just wanted expert opinion. No instructions from Jake but I do like his Aluminum one same as the case lugs as apposed to sunnex metal. Thoughts? Keith
@@jonesjeepsathiddenfallsadv7582 The Sonnax Case Saver #34762-10 allows you to keep the intermediate band for engine braking. I don't think there is a difference in the performance of the case saver being steel vs aluminum.
Do you have any experience with the Sonnax case saver, 34762-10? Its not a bolt in and only rides on the stud for the intermediate band. It just seems a little sketchy to me.
@@mountainsgarage I have modified the pressure plate and installed it. I'm running a transbrake without retaining the band. Will it still work without the band holding it in place? Thanks for replying.
By far the BEST TH400 videos on RUclips. Thank you all the way from Lufkin Texas.
Appreciate the nice words, Thanks!!

I will show that next time. I just hit it a few times hard with a punch. Once it moved with a hard blow its butter afterwards. Thanks!!
If you use the case saver, getting rid of the band, do you also get rid of the servo? Sorry first build haha
👍
Shawn.. Can you give us a walk around of your twin-turbo?
I have a 68 Skylark, just swapped in a junk yard 5.3LS and GT35 twins, Blow-thru.
Cheers!
Check out the 1972 Nova Playlist on my channel. A work in progress!
It would be awesome if you could do a step by step mods and assembly
I have covered most everything in the many (70?) videos, but will continue to shoot more!
@@mountainsgarage thanks for all the info
I have a 4l80 with a busted case what all can I use for my th400 and is the 4l80 out put shaft any stronger than the th400
The shafts don’t interchange between the TH400 and the 80E.
Do you ever install the plastic ring between the carriers? I heard that it keeps lube inside the planetary gears.
No, many don’t have it from the factory. GM called it a silencer ring, I don’t believe it has any useful purpose.

The instructions with that style case saver say to notch it out. It would be nice if they were an option to buy.

Yes I have seen them, you have to grind the intermediate pressure plate to clear it. But it does allow the option of keeping the band.

@@jeffcoatsc Yes you can use it either way, but the other style is definitely better!
Thanks. I appreciate the help.
Shawn we’re can a person source those heavy duty snap rings. Thanks
