    This simple 'submarine' travel puzzle was a complete NIGHTMARE for me. LOL

    In retrospect, i.e. after having played Riven, it might seem obvious that the Millers weren't so linear as to set up one way of playing the games. And in fact this is carried through in all the games...you can pretty much pick the order you want. Sven's choices here (I can't remember if he's said this in the commentary) have to do with the way he's relating the ages to back story that he's bringing in from the books. Very creative IMO.

    If they launch another Voyager space craft into deep space I really think they should include the CD with Myst on it. That should get the universe talking I think :-) Imagine aliens finding the Myst book and launching entire fleets of ships searching for the Ages :-)

    I still don't like how abrupt the door animations are.

    Shouldn't there be some cryptic symbols or animal pictographs, on the control panel, instead of the English words FORWARD & BACKTRACK, at the very least it should be in D'ni. I guess the brothers hadn't flash all that out yet.

    oh man, the maze runner... My dad and I played this game together when I was a kid and this thing pissed us off so much because we went here before the mechanical age so we couldn't figure the stupid thing out...

    Wouldn't the power come from the chasm? Thus you wouldn't need to switch the light off to save the planet. :P

    so...if it goes underground, would it not be a sub-terrain?

    I have always presumed English is Atrus's first language and Anna taught him D'ni as a second language.

    @mimkyodar I'm interested in seeing how you (and Sven) solve this age before Mechanical (I'm so habitually used to doing that one first). I don't doubt you have a logical solution, I just like seeing such things in action. For me, there's a very easy way to learn the sounds from Mechanical to use here.

    I'd hardly say that Atrus' technology on Selenitic is anything like what Sirrus built on Spire. Spire seems fantastically ahead technologically of Selenitic.

  • @mimkyodar

    @Mewzard There's also a very logical way to solve this Age before Mechanical. I'll see if the boss does it differently to me, but if he doesn't i'll just say "what he did"

    It may not be a submarine, but it does have a red light on the left (port) and a green one on the right (starboard)...
    Also, is there in fact any factor which makes it slightly more logical to play Selenitic before Mechanical, or Mechanical before Selenitic? In terms of learning the sounds I mean, does one age just have the edge over the other?

  • @mimkyodar
    @mimkyodar 13 лет назад

    OK, I'll say this again in the next video - but why does everyone think that you have to go to Mechanical first? The maze is set up to teach you the noises here and I always thought that Selenitic taught you the noises for Mechanical.

    • @weq150
      @weq150 6 лет назад

      probably because Mechanical has a simulator in it which features a compass and these sound that serves only to teach these sounds, so Selenitic doesn't teach you the noises for Mechanical not to inply that that the maze isnt designed to also teach you the sounds(it has to cause otherwise going to selenitic before mechanical would be a near failer state what with not being able to leave ages unti you solve there puzzles)but its must less intuitive

    @MrTaylork1 meh? Really? Atrus obviously learned English , since his notes and journals are in English, not to mention he always speaks to The Stranger and does narration in English, as well. My only point (mostly in jest) was rarely do the Ages use English so blatantly, unless the D'ni Restoration Council made some modifications.

    @briang9581 meh atrus's grandma was a human so she would have taught him english.
