Hi I’m so glad I came across your channel because I’m a techie but I’m not a “creative”. All these tech reviewers just go over creative apps on the laptops reviews but I noticed you said you’re an engineer. I’m not totally sure what that entails but I personally am big on excel and use massive data files throughout my day. Would love if you could incorporate “day in the life” reviews with you just straight up doing your work on these laptops and giving feedback on your experience with those normal people apps.
Hey there! I'm still just an electrical engineering student which means the software that I'm using includes some Altium, KiCad, and MATLAB. But thanks for the idea of the "day in the life" review! Definitely gonna consider it!
Hi Avery, I will buy a laptop for my first year of electrical engineering. Please help me recommend for me as student in Elec. Eng and have experience with different applications/ software for electrical. I was thinking to buy Dell XPS 15 but based on the review from your RUclips on zen, you did not recommend xps?
Any windows laptop that works well for you will probably handle all the stuff that you'll end up doing in electrical engineering. But just make sure that it is reliable and serves YOUR needs, not anyone else's
Nice review - just got the 16in version for my son who's starting Engineering (Mechanical / Aerospace). Honestly main reason to splurge was the RTX 4050 as the Engineering school recommends a dedicated graphics card and I could not find any other 2 in 1 that didn't have Integrated ARC. The big question mark for us was whether ARC would be compatible with engineering software (likely, but could not find any confirmation). Only issue is that ours didn't come with the pen and one pen we tried was not compatible (it would click and open onenote but there was no input when writing). Can you provide the model number for you pen?
My model was 14-eu0010ca. Some models come with the pen and some models don't, so you do need to keep a close eye on the specs to see if it does come with one!
@@AveryCheng thanks for the reply - I found in the specs that the pent is called MPP2.0 tilt and the model number is 3J122AA#ABL - not sure whether your pen has the model number visible for confirmation
Depending on where you order it, it should say whether it comes with a pen or not, whether it be in the specs or in the product images. This was the case for the 14", but I'm not too sure about the 16" though...
Haven't experienced any major issues yet; only a short period of time where I could not change the screen brightness but that was fixed after restarting the laptop a few times and updating the display drivers. But I've only had this laptop for about a month now and it's still too early to tell for many other issues it could have.
Based on your previous use have you seen the difference between mac pro 14 , DELL XPS 15 , ASUS ZEN 14 , and now HP Spector . which one is relatively best for students in ECE ( Yr 1, 2, 3)
I’m thinking of getting this computer for uni but I’m also stuck in between the Microsoft studio 2 , any like opinion in getting one like which one you prefer ?
Still using it, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Gonna make a full review once my first semester is done in December so I can get a longer-term perspective of it!
Not really, as a faster/more efficient processor won't fix a bad screen, keyboard, trackpad, or speakers. I'm generally more concerned with what's it's actually like to use the laptop, rather than the hype around a new processor or AI features.
How long does your battery last? Mine like between 7/9 hours. Bit disappointed, expected 10+ and now using 30% brightness and all battery savings on. Also it sometimes get a bit hot with no heavy programs and also with charging pretty hot.
I want to wait until I start using extensively this for school before I make a full review of it because I don't want to make a video that doesn't fully cover what using this laptop is like
@@AveryChengNormally Teams open, Whatsapp, Edge with 4 pages, sometimes Excel, Powerpoint, Word but close them directly when done. I needed to do 2/3 battery calibrations to have a bit of a better working battery, but still in my opinion goes a bit too fast. Also the battery estimation time goes up and down every %, from 15 hours to 2 hours with same work load and goes up and down all the time. Also, what is normal for amount of background and windows apps? I have like 70 and 110.
Again, I haven't had this laptop for that long so I haven't been able to fully test the battery life yet. If you're still within warranty, you might want to consider getting it replaced or serviced
Do not buy, I’ve had mine for only a year and a half. I only run light 1080p video editing, and simple adobe illustrator files. The laptop struggles heavily with windows 11, it feels bloated and slow. The SD card slot moves out of place a lot and the rubber foots on the keyboard side push themselves into the laptop and become useless. It’s treated with care but just has given up on me in recent months, not worth the price whatsoever. Repair wise, the laptop is easy to repair but would not purchase other windows laptops. The performance of Apple laptops is far superior with less bloated software and optimised apps. Much better for the same price point of these laptops, longer lasting, better build quality and smoother/less bloated software.
As someone who uses the Apple Pencil for notes on the iPad, I can say that it is a lot better than the HP Active Pen. But is it $100+ better? Probably not...
Upgradability would be nice for future proofing, indeed. And many other laptops are still able to perform very well with soldered RAM (e.g. my MacBook Pro 14)

That's literally my laptop but better in every way 😭😭😂😂
Weren't you using a gaming laptop before 😂
Should I buy it for 1200€? I also study Electrical Engineering and I want a laptop for good battery life since I can do heavy GPU stuff on my PC
I can't make any decisions for you, as it all depends on your budget, your needs, and what you prioritize most out of your laptop

It is a nice looking laptop!
I am about to get this computer! Still recommend it? I’m also getting the fully decked out one like yours!
School has just started again so I still want to have some more time to test this laptop, but so far I'm really enjoying it!

Yn it's a very cool laptop but imagine this but with the x elite 😮 that would be a killer laptop 🗿🗿
It would be cool to see the improvements that chip would bring to this laptop!
Do you think it will perform good in Computer Science lessons?? (I need quick answer 🙂)
I'm not in Computer Science, but you can generally use any laptop for CS from what I've heard
@@AveryCheng thx
Have you already encountered any issues with laptop? I am thinking of buying one. I heard that they used to have temp and stability issues.

I would say the Spectre, but I haven't used it for school yet so I'm not sure how it will perform with those tasks
I’m thinking of getting this computer for uni but I’m also stuck in between the Microsoft studio 2 , any like opinion in getting one like which one you prefer ?
I have not heard anything of or used the Surface Laptop Studio 2, so I can't comment on my opinions of it
which one do you recommend Spectre x360 or Surface laptop 7 xplus/Surface pro 11?
Haven't used or heard much of the Surface devices, so I can't really comment on them
Avery, what happened to your dell xps 15 ? Is is not reliable? I wanna purchase one XPs 15 9530….thanks
It wasn't reliable enough for me, which is why I got this laptop instead
got the 1 tb with 16 gb core ultra 7 for 999.99 crazy deal for a laptop like this
That's a steal!
That's a steal. How and where did you get that?

Starting to think i made the right decision going with slate blue
It is a pretty nice colour!

Microsoft Surface laptop studio and this one, which one is better?
Haven't used the Surface Laptop Studio, so I can't speak to that
Has this laptop co pilot? And is co pilot a must have?
This isn't a Microsoft Co-Pilot laptop, and it's definitely not a must-have on any laptop

I think the high-voltage power cable is totally unnecessary. The connector could be embedded into the power supply itself.
I do agree, especially for a 65W charger, I've seen other brands with smaller chargers and no power cable
Does it have a dedicated copilot button on the keyboard ?
It does not
@AveryCheng
Which Color is this...?
Slate Blue..?
It is the Slate Blue!
Did you order this directly from HP? Did it come with wifi 7 or 6 out the box?
I ordered it directly from HP, and it came with WiFi 7
@@AveryCheng Thanks! Is this the 14-eu0097nr model? The model name is different on best buy site which is a bit confusing.
I got the 14-eu0000ca model (I'm in Canada)
could you make a compare to lenovo yoga 9i 2 in 1, btw I am going to UBC as well hope to c u
Sorry, can't really afford another laptop right now LOL but I'm sure there are comparisons that others have done

I think you might be confusing your laptop with something else? There's no SD card slot on the HP Spectre x360 14"
Reupload??? 😮
Yeah, first one had a small issue with it that I had to fix 🥲
is that ponder blue color? or black?
It's the blue colour!
Good for 3D modeling software?
It doesn't have any dedicated graphics, so there are definitely better options for 3D modelling software
@@AveryCheng i see any other 2 in 1 recommendations?
Haven't heard much of it yet, but I think there's a 16-inch version of the HP Spectre x360 with dedicated graphics? Might be worth a look...
im debating same thing. I think it should be good honestly
Apple is selling the same pencil for $100

Yeah, I've heard that some models don't come with a pen so you really need to keep your eye out for that!
Mine also didn't come with a pen, but i did see the hole in the box where it should be. I guess in the Netherlands they will only get the bare minimum
