When Sam seemed to develop an imaginary friend, Dean was probably scared out of his mind their dad was going to find out. And think that Sam was too immature for John to handle and Sam wouldn't be ever be capable of being the hunter they were. He hated it when Sam was forced to be left behind by John and he always did his best to make sure his best friend was always included in whatever they were doing as a family. Dean probably also was a bit upset that Sam was so lonely, that he seemed to develop an imaginary friend. He was upset that Sam was this lonely and also a little hurt because Dean always wanted to be enough. For Sam and for John.

Legit everything about this scene is funny. 1) how sleepy Sam is and it takes him that long to notice the massive array of weirdness on the table 2) Deans stroke 'do you smell toast and thinking his brother has compleatly lost it. 3) literally the whole attitude of sully especially when assuring Sam that it's fine that he's still trying to wrap his head around everything 4) Deans weird karate chop and at the end when he stops sully from following them 5)the way that Sam walks out like some guilty little kid that's being scolded by his parents. 6)the fact that Dean remembered that sully was sams 'imaginary friend' when he was little is adorable I mean I love the stupid buts in supernatural I just do. I think there fun and crazy so I loved this scene
