I don’t care about your O’ light flashlight, and I don’t care about the previous bills this dude had. Details on the truck and the truck build are what’s important to those of us watching this video. you could’ve given us so much more information!!
Another dude with a good idea. Mine 2019 F550 super single from DBL with upgraded brakes, 41" tires, bead locks, front locker, 6:17 gears, buckstop bumper, winch, garage built on for stoage, FWC, Titan tank, onboard air soon and plenty more. We built ours as my wife avoids flying. We are older and have worked a long time! For anyone curious about the how!
Can you imagine the high COG on that rig with a hardwall TC? Your FWC is more sensible I think. That setup will land on its side at the slightest steering jerk.
At 34 i just started full timing in my 17 ram 3500 and 2020 northern lite here in Montana. I'm glad this guy said northern lite because slide out campers are not ideal for rough offroading, plus they weigh a lot more. The clamshell design of the northerns are superior construction for durability, low maintenance, and their depreciation is slower than any other camper(I think). ...and no, I'm not getting paid to say this. I've had two of their campers in the last 7 years and am very pleased with them. Just trying to spread the good word!
Same basic design as a Bigfoot since the people that started Northern Lite worked for Bigfoot. I've had two Bigfoot campers. My current Bigfoot will be 20 years old this year.
I run a Lance 11 footer on a Ram 4500. I've thought about going single due to the better traction in snow and off road but with the kind of weight the slide in has, I look at dual wheel as insurance in a blow out.
I'm a cabinetmaker. I work in aviation. I travel around the country for contracting/work. This is just about ideal set up. I could pull a small trailer w/my motorcycle & tool chest and if I needed to, I could remove the camper and drive to work in bad weather.
This rig reminds me of the Startracks Motorsports F554 extreme Pro. (Ford F-550) Stage 1 and Stage 2. You can even get them with gear reduction Portal axles and 42-44” Goodyear’s or Continentals. Check it out.
I’m having a sherptek flatbed too on a F550 supersingled by DBL design for a eagle cap 1165 but better :-) the only thing I’m getting from buck stop is the front bumper
Your right, the 2500 series Bigfoot truck camper is hand down the best truck camper. Northern Lite's are good as well, but the Bigfoot is just better one of the two. Great video, that f550 is a dream.
Yup, we are buying F550 this week. I was thinking about my RV lifestyle and may also get one to tow and build on. The price looks right over F350 and 450 trucks. What do you think...
The concept is awesome but it seems like it puts all of the outside access doors, etc at a height where you'd always need a step stool of short ladder to get to them.
Hi, awesome truck. I am purchasing a 2019 F450 diesel crewcab 4x4 with a 12' bed in two days. This truck has a 203" wheel base so the camper can sit back and give me a lot of room for storage in front of the camper and along the sides. My question is, the truck im buying has a 16,500 gvw, by converting that truck to a super single, how much did it drop the gvw? Thanks
That model camper is not long enough bc full sides of bed need to b 2 work box per side. A slide out tray w/ a spare makes sense but u would still need a spare under the frame if not carrying the camper prt.
That thing is sick! I’d love to get a little lift out of my 2015 f250 that I’m building into a truck camping rig for better off-road capability. It’s on my list!
I have 2017 F550 that I'm going down the same road. This guy beat me to it. I have already talked to Buckstop. But I'm curious to what else has gone on with this build.
May I suggest you get a little information on what the people with these rigs do for a living. I'm always curious on the various ways people make these journeys possible! Always look forward to your videos man, they're awesome!
The truck baseline is $55-70k. All the add ons, tires, lift, front bumper, headache rack and everything else and labor you’re talking $25k plus. LQuite a few prior rigs built for me by a company”... someone has too much f’ng $ to throw away. I worked 3 jobs to pay my $45k 2001 Dodge off in 3 years. Still have it and it’s pulling my 34’ travel trailer. As a single 29 year veteran LEO in CA with a good wage I couldn’t afford both a truck and trailer payment. I regularly see trucks on the road that run $80k plus pulling $80-$120k trailers. Retarded.
I understand that is interesting to hear, but I really try to avoid talking about that stuff. The reality is everyone I do a video with makes there money in completely different ways, so I feel it is actually kind of irrelevant
@Down2Mob Overland I completely understand what and why you do what you do! That isn’t a jab at anyone, not even the owner of the truck set up, just answering the OP :^)
I know you're trying to sell that torch but his magnetic-based light was way more practical. He definitely needs a wheel alignment. Other than that, pretty sweet rig, would've been good to see how they fit it to the bed.
Sick. and, I am going to the flashlight site. I need that small one to hold in my mouth while I juice my old poodle's dry eyes up throughout the day. That was the best noncommercial commercial ever.
Hahaa thank you Jodie, I'm glad you liked that! It was very real, we didnt plan any of the words or what the other guys would say at all so it was fun to just capture their reactions. The small light is by far the best Olight has put out yet in my opinion!
That truck is bigger than my house. With the camper it's bigger than my block. What's with all the wasted space above the wheels? You could fit a coffin each side.
How tall is this rig (especially with surfboards/kayaks on the roof rack)??? My stock F450/AF990 is over 13'. With the lift and the tires it has to be well past 14'....
Seems like a great choice. I live in a Lance 1181 on a F-350 dually. I love my rig but not a whole lot of mob-ability since i'm super heavy and my center of gravity is pretty high. Single rear wheels and more weight capacity would be sweet. Do those tires keep up with the GVWR of the truck?
manyowefew1 the continental MPT81 super singles on this rig are rated for 6780 pounds per tire or 27120 pounds with 4 tires at 96 psi and a speed rating of 68 MPH , the F550 can be rated for 17500 LBS GVWR up to 19500 LBS GVWR with the new 2020 F600 going up to a GVWR of 22,000 LBS
So many salty comments!!!! Very few average men have the cash for these builds and we make do with what we can afford and build ourselves. However some people are more fortunate or make better financial decisions and end up in a better place money wise allowing them to afford someone elses time and engineering to get the rig they desire. I love that they can pay someone to engineer these solutions so that i can watch these videos and steal the ideas and build them into my expedition vehicle, sure its not as sexy as one built in a sheetmetal workshop but its affordable and works great. Plus if i wreck it i know how to repair it.
How do you take a newer diesel motor down through Latin America? I was under the impression that the Diesel was of a lesser grade for the newer motors.
Is that a pickup frame or narrow frame? I'd like to put some 450 pickup axles under my 350 and do the same buckstop conversion. Already have the flatbed.

The problem with those is finding a replacement tire if you need to on the road. Not a lot of 41's available at the local tire shop.
