THIS VIDEO HAS AN UPDATED VERSION FOR MAYA 2020 ruclips.net/video/YnPvvkbHrpc/видео.html
Simple, concise and to the point. Awesome and thank you.
Thanks for this! Was banging my head against the wall trying to match the speeds in the graph editor.
Flapping legend! I needed to find a way to make "light beams" connect different countries on a 3D globe. I've been using curves with a stroke converted to polys, which I then render as an alpha and mask in after effects to simulate an extrude. I also can't work very effectively in Ae compared to Maya.
I can now go back to my favorite application and pull off this shot in a night!
Thankyou!
This may be a couple of years old but as a nooby to 3D moddeling, this helped me out a lot! thanks :)
It seems to of helped allot of people. Glad it helped :)
looking back on this effect.. Thnx
9 years old and still comes in sooo handy, I made my jets exhaust with this method ♥♥
Wow 9 years !! such a simple thing but my highest viewed video :)
Great tip on parametric length. Thanks Phil.
It seems that when the curve is a little long, it snaps halfway through to be smaller and the animation isn't smooth. I'm guessing this is because it is essentially squishing the geo at the beginning and making it longer toward the end and at one point, it snaps. Is there a fix for this so that the entire animated extrusion is smooth throughout?
This tutorial saved my life. Thank you!
+Josh Lounsbury No problem you are clearly not alone :) only another 38 thousand people had this issue too :)
Hi sir , thanks for the amazing tutorial
i want to use this anumation throw driven keys , or to make a plant grow throw a controler , but i can't find a way to save this extrude animation once i press delete history , so can you please help me :)
thanks again
Well done I have been struggling with this as well.
Thanks!
Another brilliant tute! thanks. Also holding down shift to snap to curve, SOOO helpful, the amount of time I've wasted before!! ;)
thank you for the video! *when i extrude the faces the normals of the faces are reversed i tried reversing them but then the animation gets weird is there any work around this? (i found the solution reverse the nurb curve's direction before the extrusion) thank you haha
How to take this animation in keyshot if i want to render this scene in keyshot???Plz help,..
Do you know how I could taper the ends of the tubes
for this type of animation.?
Use a different technique. Try curve warp in the deform menu set.
I was hoping for the new sweep mesh to have the equivalent of being able to animate the "subcurve" like in this example. Is there any way to do this with sweep mesh?
I can show you a simple way to do it in Bifrost for Maya
@@MayaGuytutorials Hello mate sounds good! would like to see that! thanks.
I'm trying to use this technique to animate an oil drip to flow over a surface but how would you get the rounded front of the droplet with a thinner trail behind it?
ur right cant find this trick online. thank u for sharing this.
Hi, thanks for this video, I have a question though, is there a way to do this without distorting a texture on the extruded object. For example I want to do this with a snake but as it extrudes the texture gets all messed up until its in the final position.
Hi, why would you want your snake to extrude? would it not be better to animate an already created snake along a curve or rig it for animation?
Can u do this with an imported illustrator curve?
Tnx man, U save my life :)
Hello, have any chance export this curve extrusion to work in other software? Like Marmoset Toolbag? Because i'm importing in Marmoset Toolbag .fbx and .alembic, but doesn't working.. iam tried bake simulation and bake animation, and nothing too.
Can We export this as fbx file??
Thanks Phil like many others on here you saved my ass
+benttoenail No worries man - keep going :)
I am still hear people just mad busy - trying very hard to get more content out soon!!!!
just so you know, finding this saved me from ripping all my hair out :O
How do I export this to an fbx :(?
Thanks so much!
Hi! You help me so much! But I got a question, how can I make insisible the bezier curve once I have did the object?
+vic vic you mean invisible? In the main window go to 'show' and un tick NURBS CURVES or select the curve and press Ctrl H - to hide it. either way it wont render
yes *invisible! thank you!!!!
Can't get it to work on maya 2017. the tube start round and then end up sqare shaped. and it does not follow the curve either.
Thank you! Saved me here too.
Hey there I'm new to Maya and I'm facing a problem with the surface -> extrude option. The extrude option is not opening when I clicked the square button near
I am not sure why it will not open - it should. Is the window opening on another screen somewhere perhaps? If you still cant see it go - Windows - workspaces - reset 'maya classic' to Factory Default and try again.
Thanks for sharing this tip!
have u made a tut on a mesh on a motionpath with a flowpath assigned to it? and not an extrude. For me, it worked once, now all of a sudden, the flowpath deformer is far above the actual mesh, and its not affecting the mesh at all for some reason. Weird how something so seemingly simple, like a 2 min thing, can take up days to solve. Iam at a loss here. So if u got any tips on that, that would be great.
what version of maya are you using?
2015, i couldnt use it cus it felt like it was broken. So i used a benddeformer for the particular shot.
but if u have an idea that would be great.
Hi im doing every step but for some reason when I extrude the quads arent even son when is extruding the snake fedorms a little on the curves.
azucarcinetico have you made sure you have enough quads to keep the shape?
Hi. Thanks for this tut. At 2:47 in the video, my extruded geometry flies and distorts wildly. If I could post images here, I'd show you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lillian Hi, it could be a few tings but make sure Use profile normal is ticked and Fixed path is also ticked. Extrude type should be Tube and not Distance. Try those options first. Thanks
escapeephil Thanks for the swift reply! The project was switched to C4D (boooo). But I will try your suggestion for my own knowledge. Thanks again and I love your work/tutorials as you know.
Lillian Boooo LOL
The only problem is that your poly extrude tends to pinch in tight corners when animating written text. Not as nice as Max's path deform modifier.
That can be fixed with some effort. Max does have a few better tools for that kind of thing but there is good and bad in both.
use Vector in World up tab in the attributes, stops pinching.
escapeephil
Thanks. Vector setting didn't work at first but then started playing around with the World up Vector values underneath. Definitely helped. Thank You:)
So I know this is an older video, but if anyone is still here: I am running into an issue where I can only extrude from one end of the curve and have the animation follow the curve perfectly. When I try extruding the same nurbs circle from the other end, it goes all wonky, even though all the extrude settings are the same. Any ideas?
Never-mind got it! The curve needed to be reversed!
Thanks for this tutorial, it's good!
Nice trick!
same animation ...how can i export into fbx format
Please tell me you figured it out :(
Doesn't work for me. It gives a weird shape.. I did exactly what you did. i don't get it.
probably your round curve has 0 0 0 ratation, you should give it some angle, then it will have the form of the curve. Just play around with X and Z rotation
Hmm it worked! I don't know how, i just do it all over again. It was my fault, no doubt..
Thank you thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!
heh heh, pleasure :)
Awesome!
tnx i like that in this video u keep it nice short and to the point
EXCELLENT!
good tip!
Thankyou!!!!!!
U r good, dude
man you sound like you just woke up lol
I've tried both C4D and Maya. Spline to create objects in C4D is way faster and easy to understand and manipulate. Maya in unbearable in this matter. Overrated software I must say. No offense.
Kind of, until it comes to the heavy stuff and being able to use mel etc
Wilmer Cortez This is why you need Maya for the future, its API is amazing and allows for this ruclips.net/video/ywXWqNdVtjs/видео.html
